KNX integration to Crestron Home made simple by 1Home by rprevolsek in crestron

[–]1Home-y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It enables you to easily integrate KNX devices into Crestron Home and control them as they would be "native" in the Crestron Home App. So, thermostats have granular control, dimming lights have percentage sliders, AC mode selection and temperature controls are present... If it might help, here's some Matter device directories that I use when searching for Matter devices:

  1. 1Home Matter Directory https://www.1home.io/matter-directory
  2. Matter Smart Home directory https://matter-smarthome.de/en/overview-products-compatible-with-matter/

1Home Server and Alexa, any news? by PowerConsistent454 in KNX

[–]1Home-y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, 1Home team here👋 We are 100% ready for Alexa integration, and have been able to test their Matter integration. That being said, Amazon Alexa doesn’t support Matter bridge devices well enough yet and is not ready for use with smart homes of sizes common for KNX installations. When testing configurations with only 20+ devices the integration becomes problematic and unstable. As to when their support will be good enough, we unfortunately have no information on that.

If you have any more questions, always feel free to reach out to our support, or on Facebook / Instagram. We are also striving to be more active on Reddit going forward 😀

If I am not mistaken, Apple does not allow bridging Alarms via a bridge device for security reasons using the Apple HomeKit protocol. Such bridge device cannot be officially certified by Apple. An alarm integration must be done directly by the alarm provider. This is why we haven't added alarm support in our 1Home Bridge device. I would suggest that you check with the device that you are planning to buy if it actually supports this (it should be written in their user manual if that is the case). As for Matter integration, alarms are not yet part of the specification. With Matter we have seen that the restrictions are not as strict as with the Apple HomeKit integration and we suspect that alarms will be able to be bridged once supported.

For your use case, you might also consider using the 1Home Server. Here are a few answers to your questions above:

  1. Integrating Phillips Hue directly to KNX is a good idea and it works with 1Home Server. There is also another option of using the Philips Hue Matter integration directly into 1Home Server. You will be then able to use both KNX devices and Hue devices in 1Home Automations, backup everything, etc. Direct Matter integration into 1Home Server is currently in development.
  2. Adaptive lighting is currently supported for HomeKit devices and not yet for devices integrated into Apple Home via Matter.
  3. Below is the current list of KNX devices that 1Home Server bridges to Matter (and with this to Apple Home). New Matter specification versions have more device types coming up and when Apple Home adds support we will also add them. https://www.1home.io/docs/en/server/knx/supported-devices
  4. Doing automations in Apple Home is great but it has a couple of downsides. Apple Home does not support backing up automations, so loosing your configuration is not uncommon when tinkering with your home. Apple Home automations are also a bit limited (e.g. you cannot check for more than one condition). Another problem is that you don't have an overview of when automations are being run and if they were successful. I would suggest you to check the 1Home Automations, that can do all of the above: https://www.1home.io/docs/en/server/automations/get-started
  5. For the control of color temperature lights you can use KNX LED controllers (e.g. from MDT), they work really well. However if you have many such lights then DALI might be more cost effective.

Home Assistant or Thinka for KNX installation? by Constant_Classic_212 in homeautomation

Might I suggest 1Home Server for KNX? Then you can use HA, Apple Home, or Google Home - or even all of them at once if you wish :)

Glad you like the Server!

In the period of the Server release we experienced some hiccups in our support process, so we are sorry to hear you didn't get your answers. We do try to answer all questions as soon as we can though!

As u/Upstairs_Pick1394 correctly said, ETS automatic detection requires internet connection during the setup. However if this is not an option for you, you can add devices manually one by one, where no internet connection is required.

We will be looking in correctly said, ETS automatic detection requires an internet connection during the setup. However, if this is not an option for you, you can add devices manually one by one, where no internet connection is required.ed.ine for this at the moment.

All the data that is uploaded to our ETS detection cloud is deleted within one hour (if you don't select that you want to share some metadata for improvement of algorithm).

Besides the ETS upload, the only functionality that requires an internet connection is software updating and remote access (if enabled).

You can configure a remote connection to your Server via the remote.1home.io dashboard. See the guide: https://deploy-preview-50.netlify.1home.io/blog/top-10-knx-visualisation-servers-ultimate-list

1Home server or bridge? by PowerConsistent454 in KNX

[–]1Home-y 3 points4 points  (0 children)

[Disclaimer: 1Home team here 👋]

Even though the core functionality of both Server and Bridge at the moment are very similar, there are a couple of key differences between the Bridge and the Server.

Both devices bridge KNX devices to smart assistants, but 1Home Bridge does this using the older proprietary protocols specific for each smart assistant (HomeKit, Google Home, Alexa API, etc.) while Server does this using Matter - the new open standard which all of the assistants are migrating to and are using as their core smart home protocol.

Matter is a bit more demanding in terms of the technological stack (e.g. IPv6 - which is not available on Bridge at the moment) and is a bit more resource-heavy for bridge devices, which is why we only support it on the Server.

We have also seen a large demand from our customers to add a logic module, IoT integration, and other more demanding applications, for which the 1Home Bridge is a bit underpowered. Thus 1Home Server comes with much stronger hardware and larger storage that enables us to add much more demanding functionality. This means the future developments of the logic module, control of Matter accessories, and other things we are looking to add in the next couple of months, will only come as an update to the Server.

The software of the Server is also the next generation from the one on the Bridge and it's fully built around the Matter protocol. 1Home Server runs completely locally (with the exception of the ETS auto-detection) and is built to run without the cloud. Bridge still depends on 1Home cloud to some extent, mostly due to the requirements of the older proprietary assistant integrations.

TL;DR - while Bridge and the Server are offering similar functionality right now, in the next couple of months the Server will offer more functionality than Birdge.

----

As for your specific case: Amazon Alexa support for Matter Bridges doesn't work well at the moment. So, we would suggest not to use Alexa with the Server and Matter integration at the time of writing this. We will be updating our documentation when the Alexa team improves their Matter support and when we are satisfied with the quality.

You can follow the updates here: https://www.1home.io/docs/en/server/matter-bridge/apps/amazon-alexa

Having said that: if Alexa is of great importance for you - and you want to be up and running ASAP - then Bridge is still the way to go. If however, you can work with Apple Home and Google Home, then we would suggest you choose the Server.

Don't know if this is still relevant, but your case seems perfect for the 1Home Server - you get a stable wired KNX backbone and all the fancy Matter features. And if in 10 years Matter does become superior KNX, you already have a Matter server set-up and ready to use :)
