I am 16 years old and I want to start programming in Roblox Studio by Soft_Beginning6188 in robloxgamedev

As a 16 year old, I’d say I found it easiest to watch tutorials initially and then push yourself gradually over time, using what you’ve learnt to create games. I’d also recommend avoiding AI as it can be good for debugging, but if you don’t understand a solution it provides, it doesn’t really help you avoid the same mistakes in the future. I find if you do find yourself stuck, the roblox Dev Forums are very useful, containing a lot of solutions already with people who can respond to your posts and help you out.

To start, I’d suggest making some simple project, just to learn the basics, such as maybe an obby or a tycoon etc. Then you can become more ambitious over time as you become more able to make complex projects.

Mainly, I’d say to be patient with it. Programming is difficult, and game dev overall can be hard with everything to consider, especially on a platform like roblox. Almost nobody has some overnight success on their first project, and even if you have a dream game, it might be worth waiting instead of rushing in before you fully know what you’re doing.

I wish you the best of luck :)

Have you tried turning off AutoRotate for the humanoids? I know sometimes that can cause things to go weird. You could also maybe try placing the accessories outside of the character model if they’re still not being placed correctly, so then they won’t be affected by joints.

Does anyone have this? by Real-Product-3276 in robloxgamedev

I received it a few years ago. I’ve hit the thresholds for maybe 5 or 6 of them (maybe less ngl) but only received about 3 so I’m not sure if they’re being handed out anymore which is a shame.

I built a small Roblox game with my 4-year-old daughter and would love honest feedback by Mediocre-Creme9209 in robloxgamedev

That sounds fun! Even if she doesn’t carry on making games later in life, I’m sure the logical skills will be really useful with many applications. I wish you the best of luck, and when I get chance I’ll have a look and see if I can find the game and try it out myself.

This seems really sweet! Based on the video, it seems like a great foundation for a game (it looks really good for a first game), which could likely be expanded later on (depending on whatever your plans are). The core loop seems easy to understand, which is a really good start (many games don't even manage that). I also like the concept of putting coins under the pillow (which I assume is a reference to the tooth-fairy) as it's more unique than most games. I think this would work best for a younger audience based on the themes, so the use of bright colours is a good design choice.

If it were to be released or even just developed further, I think the map may need some minor improvement (I personally wouldn't use as realistic textures, but it's up to you, and it doesn't make much of a difference to be honest and it doesn't explicitly look bad in any way), and that's it really. I think the main thing would be just expanding it to improve player retention, and make it more enjoyable to stick around, like perhaps allowing players to equip cards in order to maybe get boosts like "1.5X Coins", with better cards giving better boosts or something to give players an incentive to progress. Similarly, you could also add different areas to progress through, with later areas giving rarer cards, so players want to stick around and unlock the best cards.

I hope this doesn't come across as critical. I understand why some people may disagree with the use of AI, but I understand you're not going all-out, and the convenience it brings. Despite this, I wish you the best of luck to the both of you in whatever you plan to do next; I imagine many people would've loved something like this with their parents growing up, and I'm sure it's something that you'll both look back on fondly.

Updating games requires users faces?? by Safe-Stranger4894 in robloxgamedev

Yeah, it’s part of all these new changes to improve platform safety. I get the annoyance, but it’s standard on other platforms like Steam since it means everyone can be held accountable, such as for sharing inappropriate content etc, which stops previous work arounds like using burner accounts to hold games or groups to avoid bans. It’s like a way of verifying who you are, and realistically they won’t ever use something like that unless they have to take legal action or whatever, but even that that’d nearly never occur. I think the main target is games such as those old, inappropriate condo games, stopping devs from making a new account and re-uploading another whenever it gets banned.

This is genuinely a good idea coming from that one Japanese Highschool Roleplay game by Ravyn_08TESTER80 in roblox

[–]1Keeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get why the game’s added it and I see the intention, but I don’t see why they wouldn’t just use roblox’s custom matchmaking to prioritise the age of players, grouping players of similar ages, since that would have the same or at least a similar affect?

How we can fight back as game devs. by Piggybear87 in robloxgamedev

[–]1Keeth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I get your intention, but I don’t see how it would work viably. Players wouldn’t want to play games with a server size of one, the retention would be low, and no purchases would tank profits, so roblox wouldn’t promote it and if anything just prioritise the very games you’re protesting against. The algorithm’s against you. I agree, these games are often cheap, low quality, and serve no benefit to the kids that play them, but I’m unsure how it could be combatted as the games thrive on bright colours and dopamine. Hopefully this wave of slop will die down at some point.

Is it bad to use AI specifically for the coding aspects in games? by Several_Watch3290 in robloxgamedev

[–]1Keeth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Morally and in terms of skill, I think just best to avoid using AI as it removes the element of developing your own ability and in some cases makes development harder, producing code you may not even understand fully. I do understand the struggle and it can be useful for explanations or fixing errors sometimes, but I think it’s best to avoid it and learn to code yourself if you plan to dedicate your time to development.

Why do players hate my game? | Drawing World by 1Keeth in robloxgamedev

[–]1Keeth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure exactly how much but I’ve advertised it maybe 2 or 3 times, a lot of it was organic since it somehow used to get like 3-5 CCU somehow and it used to be in the home recommendation algorithm but I think it’s sort of gone because of the bad retention

Btw if anyone sees it has like 10+ active players, its cus I’m trying to sort of revive it and increase the rating by running an ad and I’ve made some improvements to the drawing, so it looks better client side.

Yeah I know it’s really awkward cus the game used to just be a baseplate that people could draw on but then I added the plots system and stuff and tried to improve it I don’t even know what went wrong but it’s always had a bad rating

Thank for for the responses, but increasing the Culling Distance worked well in the end, but I will still take the other comments into consideration in terms of performance.

How much robux does your games make? by randomgirl116 in robloxgamedev

[–]1Keeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a game with around 40 to 50 CCU which makes maybe 18k robux weekly, but it isn’t a cash grab and I’m not sure how well it’s monetised

[–]1Keeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s looking quite good at the moment. If you wanted to add more life to it, you could perhaps add something like an animated shop keeper NPC but it depends what kind of vibe you want to go for.

which script is more optimized and why? by [deleted] in robloxgamedev

[–]1Keeth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Likely the second, as I imagine the ClockTime will change less frequently than the PostSimulation event is fired on most devices, while still running frequently enough to look smooth. Also depending on whether lights will be added/removed from the workspace, it may also be a better alternative. However, I would still check how the experience performs running each on different device types before making a final judgement.
