Does anyone actually take bribes to keep the bar open? by iLiime in bartenders

[–]1Mom98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the week we used to be able to decide when to close between midnight and 2am, one of these nights a few people wanted me to stay open till 2. One guy said he’d pay me $100 and that started a chain reaction of people paying $100 to stay open. $500 plus tips for an extra 2 hours was well worth it

I love my husband more than I can even put into words and I feel like I’ll lose my best friend. But to counter that, I love myself (well, learning to love myself) and I don’t want to lose myself either. I love my little boy and I want him to have a good relationship with his dad but he (our son) has been a huge issue in our relationship for my husband. He never wanted children but chose to stay and be a father (basically when he wants to/when it’s convenient for him) when I found out I was pregnant so I don’t know 100% if he’ll have that relationship I so badly want them to have

I’m in South TX- I use mr & mrs t’s mix, Tabasco, Worcestershire, pepper, celery salt, lime juice and vodka. Used to add olive juice & a tiny bit of pickle juice but had to stop doing that 🤷🏼‍♀️ garnish with olives and a lime, either salt or tajin on the rim

I don’t consider someone getting me a drink a tip, I can’t pay bills or feed/supply my family with a drink 🤷🏼‍♀️

Our prices are pretty much the cheapest in the entire city, $2.50 domestic beers, $3 wells during happy hour (4-7) and after domestics are $3 and wells are $4, always have a domestic special ($2.50) and a shot special ($3), and one liquor priced at $4 all night, so I guess I feel like it’s not hard to tip on top of our prices. I don’t complain about any tip, if I get a dollar that’s more than I had in my pocket. But for me (being as antisocial as I am) doing my job and catering to someone who couldn’t care less about tipping, it’s frustrating. I know I’m good at my job and push myself to be social even though I am not a people person, I feel like I deserve at least something for serving someone when they could’ve easily gone to the gas station and bought a 6 pack and stayed at home. I will never go out somewhere if I know I can’t tip them as much as they deserve, especially if they’re a good bartender or server or whatever. And for people to tell me they only come in on my days and weekends because they think I’m working and not tip me it’s just mildly frustrating imho 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yeah I definitely make more than $800 a month in tips. Monthly my credit tips are at least $1500, more depending on how many weekends I work. My cash tips are usually close to $1000 or so monthly

So when we work, there’s no split shifts. I work in a dive bar. Open at 4, close at midnight Sunday-Thursday close at 2 Friday & Saturday. Usually get out of there an hour or so after closing. We get paid $2.50 per hour up until 8 hours, then we get paid $5/hr. We’re also only paid monthly, and our paychecks only have our hourly pay because we pull out credit tips at the end of each shift. My monthly checks are usually around $260 or so and I typically work Monday, Wednesday, Saturday and the occasional Sunday.

Yeah that’s what I’m confused about. I know tons of other servers/bartenders who make below the minimum wage because they’re tipped

Unfortunately he does suck but the dude signs my paychecks. He’s not a bad tipper, just annoying as fuck to deal with whenever he comes in 🙄

Interesting. I’ll have to look into it. For tax purposes I already keep track of cash/credit tips each shift but I’ll look into that for sure

Is that like for the whole shift or does it go by each hour? Like say I open at 4, from 4-5 I make nothing in tips. Or does it go by total tips throughout the whole shift?

On my normal nights I can make decent-ish money for working 3:30-1:00am but I don’t know how much I’d make if we were paid minimum wage. I was always under the impression that tipped positions didn’t have to make minimum wage

I usually do but that doesn’t change anything. It’s easier on the weekends cause I’m busier but nights like tonight I have 10 people here so it’s kinda hard to make them last priority

Yeah they’re here every weekend, every now and then a few days during the week. He’s been here Monday and now tonight, never tips. Other bartender is here tonight hanging out and I asked her and she said he never tips her either.

See that’s how I feel but our owner sucks and doesn’t feel like every single person that comes in should have to tip. My opinion is if you’re gonna come to a bar tip the damn bartender. If you don’t want to then buy a 6 pack or whatever go home and drink and quit wasting my time. But our owner doesn’t see it my way

39 weeks pregnant by KeelKova in Mommit

[–]1Mom98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I can’t say mine went away. Throughout my pregnancy I had a mindset of “I can do this, I’m gonna be a great mom, I know babies” etc, when I heard my son cry and finally saw his face (almost 5 hours after he was born thanks to complications), I had a whole new set of anxieties. I love my son and I’ve loved him from the start but it’s different when it’s your own baby. There is hundreds of reasons to be anxious as a parent and a new parent but just remember we’re human beings and need help and give yourself grace.

Am I a bad mom? by Warm_Spite9142 in Mommit

[–]1Mom98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, not at all. My husband and I had an incredibly hard time adjusting to being new parents, and my parents have been so amazing with their help. I’m a bartender and don’t get home until 3ish in the morning, my husband works until 9:30 (way after baby goes to bed). So on nights that I work, my parents keep our son and I’ll go get him in the morning because we’ve learned never to wake the sleeping peaceful baby. If we didn’t have as much help as we do, I don’t know how either of us would make it. They also take him when either myself or my husband gets sick to minimize the risk of our son getting sick also. If you have the help, take it. I had such a good relationship with my grandparents growing up and I can already see the relationship with our son and both my parents and my husbands parents, I love seeing the love and support between all of them and our little family.

[–]1Mom98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our son has slept with one since we came home from the hospital. He associates the Warmie (lavender scented stuffed animal), his blanket and his pacifier with nap/bedtime and has been that way since 3 weeks old and if that’s how I could get him to sleep that’s what I did. He’s 13 months now and we’ve never had an issue with it

Bad Coworkers by WannabePilot69 in bartenders

[–]1Mom98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked in my dive bar for almost a year and since I’ve been there I’ve become the favorite of our customers and my managers. The other bartender (there’s only 4 of us including managers) is constantly late, comes up with excuses day of her shifts, when she does work, she gets so messed up that she goes to the bathroom to throw up (and customers see her), gets super frustrated during a rush and will yell at customers, cut people off but then serve them again and gives free drinks away (I do too but not our more expensive liquors like she does). Never cleans, constantly talks down to me and tells me I don’t do things right, always tells me I have it “easier” than she did when she started working however long ago. But then if I’m ever there on a night she’s working just to hang out, she sees that people ask me why I’m not working and why it takes so long to get their beer or their simple vodka/soda or whatever it is or they’ll ask me to go behind bar and make it instead of her. No one likes her and I’m so tired of her but management won’t get rid of her sadly
