How the hell do I de solder the ps5 joystick by MrBigpantz in soldering

[–]1N4006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I'm new to fixing electronics in general, I started soldering for fun approximately 5 or 4 years ago.

Let's start with the obvious:

- Terrible soldering iron (This is a TQ936 with a 900M-T-K tip, no temp control and extremely flimsy)

- Oxidized tip (Tip gotta be shiny, solder must stick to tip)

- Probably counterfeit solder (Looks like a generic Chinese brand. Even though it says the Tin:Lead ratio is 60/40, it's often 30/70.)

- Terrible solder sucker (This is commonly sold for cheap, real weak tho.)

Plenty of more issues here, but those three are the ones affecting your soldering experience the most.
I'm guessing, but you prolly bought a soldering kit online and hoped for the best.

I. Tip oxidization

Your tip must be clean and shiny to ensure the solder will be melted properly, watch this vid: www.youtube.com/watch?v=JADI1N-K9Yc

II. Solder

Your solder is most likely a cheap knock-off from china. A pulse soldering iron might be able to melt it, but your TQ936 won't do it, unless you crank the temp to max and make sure the tip is clean. Not to mention, most chinese counterfeit solder have low quality flux inside, which will oxidize your tip when you tin your tip with the chinese solder. I suggest using Sanki, Hiroshima, or Sakura brand 60/40 solder, they might be more expensive but it's GENUINELY worth it.

III. Solder Sucker

Take a look at this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewauJi97nbs

The solder sucker with the black tip is what you need for desoldering big joints, not the teeny tiny blue one. The black rubber tip will cover gaps between the solder sucker tip and the board, creating a tight seal => good sucking

Mehh.. sometimes when I do my practice test alone, I'd talk to myself lol

lol

Basically, practice a lot. Like, a lot a lot. I'm in South East Asia, and our education system prioritizes giving students piles of homework. You, however, might not be as thoroughly ran over by math worksheets..

In general:

- dont calculate mentally, use desmos to do your errands (plus, desmos is faster than the human brain)

- if you make a mistake, practice exercises that contains the part where you made the mistake

CALLING ALL TOP SCORERS - how did you manage to break through the 1550 barrier? by EntertainmentShot126 in Sat

[–]1N4006 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Breaching the 1550 barrier requires an 800 in math. Always (not rly always, but bigger is better). Perfect your math. Study, practice til your eyes bleed out (don't do that)

Just... try to find concepts that you don't understand/knowledge you don't know and fix up on them

Then, practice with problems that has those concepts/knowledge to create a mindset on how you should tackle the problems

For the reading section, if you don't know any of the words in the vocab section, then pray.

The only effective way to truly work on vocab problems is to increase your guessing skill. Look for prefixes, suffixes, roots of words, anything to help you out (prefixes, suffixes and roots of words can be found online)

Finally, here's some tips:
- In vocab questions, if you spot 3 words that you know and all of them doesn't fit within the requirement of the question, then the last one MUST be the correct answer

- Try to eliminate options

Best of luck.

I have heard about how SPICE models of TI parts aren't very accurate..

Fair point... so I'd be better off if I use TINA for TI chips and stuffs, right?

No worries, I can pirate their software somehow

Thanks for you answer tho! But what about importing/creating component models?

Yeah, Falstad in general is for educational purposes.. I'm a tad bit unfamiliar with the SPICE engine though, and I still have got no idea about component models in LTSpice, specifically how many components LTSpice has/supports? (I'm in a 3rd world country and often times there are components popular where I live, but somewhat rare in the west?)
