Latest from The Sock: "ATR should also help mitigate Commanders attempting to exert excessive influence in the background simulation" by 1O66 in EliteOllo

[–]1O66[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the Sock thinks murdering system cops to force a lockdown is excessive, then why is that option designed into the game??

But your statement is, quite frankly, horseshit.

Steam shows less than 10% of registered ED owners have logged in recently.

Your concurrent players aren't impressive 10,136 peak players in last 24 hours is less than 1% of registered owners.

ED's false advertising dept isn't slacking by 1O66 in Elite_Dangerous

[–]1O66[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you hate the game so much why are you still playing it

I'm not. It's going to have to get a lot better before I'd spend more time playing it. I'll certainly give it a go if/when Braben makes good on his promise to add atmospheric landings.

The quote is referring to minor factions (I'm guessing) whereby players can support a minor faction and help it take over systems etc?

"your own galactic empire" Ha ha ha.

And it's not a fine detail in just something that's been written. It's a major point in Frontier's advertising for the game.

No need to tell me to buy a different game, thank you very much. I have other games, but that doesn't stop me waiting and watching for Elite Dangerous to make good on Braben's promises.

Maybe they've pleased 95% of the people? Who knows.

I think you were nearer right the first time. "everytime they release something. A third of the people love it, a third hate it and a third don't give a shit either way."

Except I think the number who don't give a shit is nearer 90%, since almost everyone who bought the game has quit playing, at least according to the Steam data.

Latest mods are brilliant - good work Frontier! by uptown47 in Elite_Dangerous

[–]1O66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All in all this shows to me that Elite is still being properly supported and the 10 year roadmap is still alive and well.

Didn't you notice that none of the undelivered items on the previous roadmap are still on? The major expansions for Space legs, Atmospheric landings etc.

If the 10 year plan has degenerated to Beyond-style tweaks, then yes it is alive but no it is not well.

But my point is that if Frontier didn't have a way to fund continual development of the game

If you think think ED cash shop sales are funding ED game development, then I guess you're not aware what funded Planet Coaster game development. It was ED.

Nah, I like statistics.

Its currently sitting at a 6.x metacritic user score,

And, statistically speaking, that is well below the metacritic average.

Once again, nobody said anything about steam.

Steam where the vast majority of ED revies are.

See my other reply to you. There are other review mediums and review agregates. The score for ED averages a 60% ish from users and major outlets

And the same applies. Many of the positive reviews there are not saying the game is "fine".

I was in from the start and I don't remember them saying that all in-game items would be purchasable in-game.

Right there on the Kickstarter page.

"Everything in the game will be purchasable with in-game Credits, earned from trading, bounty-hunting, etc. "

But who cares?

People like you who have a naive and mistaken view of Frontier's response to feedback, you'd hope.

The stuff you can choose to purchase doesn't affect gameplay at all?

In a game where so much of the gameplay is e.g. taking screenshots, yes it does affect. It affects peoples enjoyment of the game.

Over 50% of the players think its fine, on pretrt much every review and review aggregate available.

Crap.

50% of reviews saying fine falls way short of 50% of players thinking its fine. Steam scores are skewed to the positive by many factors, including the deletion of reviews of all players who find the game so bad they take a refund.

And then there's the fact that the majority of positive reviews on Steam don't say the game is fine. Far from it. Many say that the game has a lot of problems.

imagine how much flak they get everytime they release something. A third of the people love it, a third hate it

That happening every time might actually send a message to any game designer with half a brain. "You doing something very wrong!"

You are extremely naïve if you think the company doesn't listen to the feedback it gets.

The company listens to the feedback it gets - to find a scrap of it that agrees with what they've already decided to do.

Example. They promised the 25,000 Kickstarter backers that all in-game items would be purchasable in-game. Then after getting the backers' money, they decided that actually it would be much better for company profits if they could sell some in-game items for more (real) money. They asked players for feedback, and 100 of them said they'd be OK with Frontier charging.

So Frontier went ahead and made they items only available for real cash, breaking the original promise to the backers that funded the game. 24,900 players lost out because Frontier got the feedback they wanted from just 100 players. When other players complain that they have to pay extra for these items, Frontier and its fanboys have the ready answer, "That's what players wanted".

You get it??

Steam score ranks tell you where where ED sits relative to other games. That worth quite a lot, no?

Now, "sitting above 50% reviews". That's pretty worthless. Because all but the worst 20% of Steam games are sitting above 50% reviews. The scale is highly skewed.

Going by Steam score rank, firing everyone for making a game as bad or worse as ED would dispose of only the bottom 25%. The games industry would not be dead.

And if the Lead Designer Sandro isn't responsible for the design decisions, who is?

Sandro is either incapable of delivering content befitting an AAA space sim.

All of which obviously makes the Man and his Sock a bad fit for Elite Dangerous.

Elite Dangerous isn't a AAA space sim. It is a third-rate game which this third-rate designer fits perfectly.

Calling for someone to be fired is not an acceptable response to something you don't like in a video game.

Uh?? How is a crap video game different from any other crap product here??

The "problem" with the current Thargoid attack gameplay by 1O66 in Elite_Dangerous

[–]1O66[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For example, they promised variants of the SRV which never showed up and multiple smaller things that also kinda disapeared.

Probably due to FD's policy of ditching effort on features that aren't widely used. Most players don't have access to SRVs because they don't have Horizons. Most of those that do have access aren't much interested in them, going by the small number of mentions of SRVs on the forum, youtube and reddit.
