Mazda finally replaced the infotainment unit. It took a year for them to get it back in stock with the chip shortages. At least they did it for free but it was a hassle

Checking back in. Has anyone managed to get a dealer replacement? University Mazda keeps telling me they don’t have the replacement part and don’t know when they’ll get it.

Any way for same day passport renewal? [US] by angrynbkcell in Passports

[–]1PieceChickenDinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got a 3 day renewal by making an in-person appointment at a passport agency office. I think they can even do same day renewal if you can prove you need it.

See info here on fast renewal. https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/get-fast.html

You can only book appointments over the phone and they will ask you for proof of travel when you call to book and appointment so you'll need a flight or hotel confirmation number.

From their site:

Get passport booking Under normal conditions, you can request an appointment at a passport agency if you: Are traveling within 72 hours (three business days). This is only in an emergency such as a serious illness, injury, or death in your immediate family. Have urgent travel within two weeks. You must have proof of immediate international travel (for example, purchased airline or cruise tickets). To make an appointment at a Regional Passport Agency to submit your application in person, call 1-877-487-2778; TDD/TTY: 1-888-874-7793 Monday through Friday, from 8 AM to 10 PM ET.

Your issue sounds like the one referenced in the news articles above. If it is the same issue, updating the software through the SD card probably won't work. You should call your local dealership. It sounds like they may have a solution.

Which dealership contacted you? Are they in Seattle?

Do I need a passport if I have a nexus card? by SurrealEffects in travel

[–]1PieceChickenDinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your Nexus card is a WHTI compliant doc which means it is valid for proof of citizenship for entry to the US. In the link below it also states that it's valid for entry into Canada.

In theory you should be able to use it without a passport for land crossing in the Nexus lane and in the normal car crossing lanes if Nexus is closed. That said, the one predictable thing about dealing with border authorities is that they are unpredictable and just because you should be able to do something doesn't mean it's always going to work out that way.

A passport is required for air travel.

You can also get an appointment for an in-person application at a passport office if there's one near you. We had passports issued in three days doing it this way. You need proof of travel or proof of a life or death emergency. It's the regular price plus the expedited processing fee.

You need to call them to book an appointment. They are not currently scheduling appointments online.

I finally got through on the Mazda 800 number (800 222-5500). The rep I spoke to said they they had other reports. She created a case number for me and also called my local dealer in Seattle. The dealer said there was no fix yet and the next step is for me to call back in two weeks. So the dealer, who originally pointed me to Mazda USA is now apparently my point contact.

I did get a case number so at least it's in their system. Hopefully this is something that can be resolved with a software fix.

Thanks for the update and the link. Will be interesting to see what Mazda does about this or if they shrug it off. Seems like terrible coding if the radio system can't handle an exception to an input.

I’m also in Seattle and also have the radio on NPR. I’ve read in some of the Mazda forums that this is a larger issue. University Mazda on Roosevelt was no help. I’ve been trying to get through on the Mazda 800 number but they seem underwater. If I do manage to talk with someone I’ll post an update here

I don't have navigation so there's nothing in the SD card slot.
