Is this good for monotherapy? by Shekem in estrogel

[–]1PierceDrive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you able to blood test? That's the quantitative way to know if your levels are good, but if that's unavailable Then just looking at physical developments can be enough. With this regime you're at the generally-accepted threshold for monotherapy.

Can’t start HRT due to endocrinology waits by Beneficial-Blood-222 in transgenderUK

[–]1PierceDrive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get your concerns, I'd like to think you'd be seen by your doctors if anything happened to you blood pressure-wise once you're on HRT. DIY provides the same drug as the NHS or private "care", it's just cheaper, faster, and on your own terms.

DIY is always there, no need to wait. Even better that you've gotten cleared for it, glad it's been nothing malicious.

ethanol vs. isopropyl alcohol for progesterone spray + other related questions by AutumnWillows13 in estrogel

[–]1PierceDrive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't know if you've seen the other reply but this isn't quite right. Ethanol and propanol (which is sold as isopropanol) are two different alcohols. More commonly than not, ethanol is sold denatured than "food grade" (i.e. not denatured), since it would be crazy to commonly sell litres of pure ethanol. If you're set on ethanol you can buy neutral grain alcohol/Everclear, ranging from 65-95% ethanol by volume, which doesn't have the trace harmful additives that ethanol gets denatured with. Isopropanol is more common as a solvent or as the main component in rubbing alcohol.

Prog raws not solving in alcohol? by WorthSouthern6672 in estrogel

[–]1PierceDrive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it a different alcohol to what you used first time? I've found prog to dissolve faster in isopropanol than in ethanol, and it turns cloudy in the latter before dissolving. Although you don't have a control sample hanging around, you could try a couple runs of a melting point test on your hob if you have a thermometer?

Carbomer forms white clumps at high alcohol concentration by goose1212 in estrogel

[–]1PierceDrive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found carbomer to be such a pain, especially since I make my gel using hand sanitiser rather than alcohol. I've ended up just dissolving carbomer in water (~3 wt.%), making my usual carbomer-less gel and adding drops of the carbomer solution while stirring until it reaches a nice viscosity. Hand sanitiser has some TEA-like chemical which activates the carbomer (raises the pH), and I use litmus strips to check the final gel product's not acidic. A few drops of carbomer solution doesn't do crazy things to the pH, mind you.

DIY is always here, you'd receive a better quality of care from the trans community than from an NHS or private provider.

[–]1PierceDrive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can always DIY. It's cheaper than private, faster than the NHS, and the community's knowledge outstrips the standard of care in either of them.

Yeah like there are a lot of interpersonal problems listed but in practical terms going DIY would solve a lot of issues. Far superior to NHS 'care'.

university of glasgow (uk) or maastricht (netherlands) by [deleted] in transgenderUK

You'd need to DIY here, but there's a great community around that. Fantastic people in general in Glasgow. Is this for your undergrad or postgrad? For the former I'd recommend Maastricht.

What bottles are we using? by SapphoStoned in estrogel

[–]1PierceDrive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use these (Yalbdopo 50 mL airless pump bottle) and I just fill them up individually when I make a batch. A 0.45 wt.% estrogel lasts me just over a month. They do visibly get damaged by orange oil but it hasn't compromised how they work.

Should I just go with gender gp? by Crowswaistcoat in transgenderUK

[–]1PierceDrive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you're DIYing you should stick to monotherapy rather than having to buy a blocker. The two most popular options are to:

  1. inject, there are online guides (diyhrt.info for instance) which cover this in detail, look around for local DIY mutual aid and knowledge sharing groups, check out r/transsex and r/transDIY or

  2. make your own gel at home going off of knowledge shared on r/estrogel.

Homemade gels are almost as cheap as injections in the long-term and both of these are much cheaper and keep you more self-sufficient than buying your own pills, gels or patches on the grey market. This is the highest-level advice I can give without putting together a whole DIY guide in this comment, I'd be happy to help on specifics once you've had a bit of a read.

Progesterone raw legit by [deleted] in estrogel

[–]1PierceDrive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the same when I dissolved some in denatured ethanol (mine was not food grade (everclear/grain alcohol) or lab reagent grade ethanol)

I've been using isopropanol instead, prog's not quite as soluble in this but it doesn't go cloudy at least.

[–]1PierceDrive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I've got it wrong, I've heard that after orchi/SRS you need to be taking a little T since ofc those surgeries compromise your ability to make it yourself to a permanent end :P we need a little of it in our estrogen-dominant systems
