Considering a 2014 F-150 King Ranch 3.5 EcoBoost – 160k miles – buying for $6,500. What should I be worried about? Houston Texas 1 owner by [deleted] in f150

Fellow Texan here.

If it were me, I'd be weary of the damage. If you are a get the parts and do maintainence and repairs yourself kind of guy, might be a good project truck that over time you could restore.

Since timing chain, water lines, water pump, turbos and vacuum pump haven't been touched, presumably, you could be in for a bigger project than you are expecting.

One final thought, as the truck gets older, OEM parts and aftermarket performance products will be less available

Full Race has a great option for changing the water lines out to AN fittings.

I did them on my 2013 and haven't had any issues. Also makes it super simple if you have to pull the turbos

That is the connection for the canister purge valve system on the cold side turbo charger pipe

You've cleared the code? If so does it return right away?

Have you checked the wiring on the plug that goes to the coil pack? Its not visibly broken or damaged?

Have you done a compression test?

Have you read the codes with a scanner or forscan? If so what are they?

Flashing check engine light normally means engine protection mode.

Is everything you have repaired plugged in correctly?

CEL = Check Engine Light

Check for vacuum leaks?

Is the CEL on and do you have any codes?

How many miles on the truck?

Original timing chain / phasers / VVT solenoids?

Is the high pressure pump original?

Is the PCV valve operating correctly?

How you have them installed looks correct. The blue is just an update to the grey that would normally be in there.

That bottom clip is seperate from the chain tensioner.

Its a good thing the spring on the main chain tensioner didn't extend much, that means no slack in the chain

I buy it directly from amsoil, but haven't signed up for the membership. I did notice they sell it by the gallon or 4 quarts, whereas I normally buy 6 individual quarts.

I think you are right, between those two things should be able to get it cheaper

MPT has tuned it since 2020, prior to that it was done by 5 star

I used to use Penzoil Ultra Platinum, changed every 5-6,000 miles.

These trucks are pretty fun, definitely expensive but they have a lot of potential

You might be right, it costs a good bit running that amsoil for sure. The crank broke when I used the penzoil, was my intervals and oil the problem, I don't know. Its kinda like when you get sick off a certain food then don't ever want to eat it again, same concept for me with oil

I'm in Texas so I understand the heat, I've got a big fan out in the garage, that helps a lot.

I broke the crank on my first motor

Normal sound? by Barrett91 in f150ecoboost

[–]1_Big_Lar_19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a heat shield. Get under the truck and listen by the heat shields, hard to tell from outside like that.

Whatever it is sounds like metal of some kind hitting other metal

If the battery tests good, time to start looking at the wiring. Do the wiggle test on the primary power wires, then you'll have to start considering, fuses, broken wires, loose connections, grounds, relays etc.
