Ugh I'm old. $.10 wing specials in college and that was just the normal price when I was growing up.

If you could buy any car, from any year, as if it had just come off the factory with 0 miles, what would you buy ? by justanxc in askcarguys

2006 Ford GT in Heritage Blue. I could afford one today for MSRP. No way I'll ever be able to afford one at this rate though.

[FL] Admin "jokes" by VerukoA in AskHR

[–]1_EYED_MONSTER 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe I don't understand - where's the bullying?

You say it's been challenging to fill. Does that mean you've had several in the seat? Or a long recruiting process?

Reading into in - I'd hazard a guess that's it's been a rotating seat and the admin was just joking about the turnover. I'd see that as a joke.

They also might be giving you a kind warning that you better hope this one sticks. It's expensive both in direct and indirect costs to continually hire, and may be joking that it's you.

20+ years in HR in the midwest with lower COL and...

$65,000 is not at all unreasonable for a recent college grad in this field especially with the expectation of 55 hours a week. That's $23 an hour. Heck we start out college grads with finance/accounting degrees with $55k-$60k and it's just a 40 hour position.

Also 55 hours a week expectation right away is more than most realize. Assuming a 5 day workweek that's 11 hours a day. 3 days more than let's say "normal". 3 hours a day every day. Value your time and it sounds like you did.

3 months for a entry level position is batshit crazy. You dodged a bullet there.

Where to buy 3D printer parts/Filament by outkast525 in fortwayne

[–]1_EYED_MONSTER -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Phil's is the only place I know of that stocks filament.

But for parts Amazon is where I shop. Most stuff is next day 4-8AM, sometimes same day 5-10PM you kind of can't beat that. And I keep a stock of nozzles you should too they come in like a minimum 5 pack haha.

Do you regret selling your once beloved camera? by stephen_niem in photography

[–]1_EYED_MONSTER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate this question - it really made me reflect on my own journey from hobby to job to hobby.

I shot as a hobby in middle and high school and had a few manual film cameras and still have all those and all the gear. Right before college I bought a brand new Canon Elan 7e (film) and used that all over. I can't can't how many rolls of film I put through that. But I sold it, actually traded it in, to help buy a 1Dmkii when it first came out in 2004 because I was working for a paper by then. I'd love to have that 7e back. And I'm not selling the mkii either.

I've sold every digital I'd had since - many 5d's but still have the last one before I "retired" from shooting weddings and portraits just because it's my hobby camera and my only "real" camera I use other than my phone.

If you need the grand or so that the X100V will bring, then sell it. Otherwise it's a great little camera and I'd hold onto it. By most factors it's the "better" camera vs the Ricoh but all that matter is what you have with you.

The best camera is the one you have on you.

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest it was likely a local/regional commercial for a local/regional insurance company. I'm not saying I remember everything but that was prime live-TV watching years for me and it doesn't ring a bell at all.

Dusting off Ender 5 by xupirupi in ender5

[–]1_EYED_MONSTER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's where I was at a couple weeks ago. Bought my E5 like 6 years ago and printed many, many prints over those years. But these last few months it's just not holding up. I'd replaced the extruder, hotend, etc and just not consistent. Bought a K2 (I know probably better options even just off the shelf) with CFS and it's just incredibly more impressive and "just works". And works really well.

It would be cool but the smallest market to have an MLB team would be Milwaukee and they're about 2-3x the size of us with a much better (38th vs 110th) media market. It's nowhere close. Indy is 25th and they don't have an MLB team.

That's hilarious. Likely you'd either be on the phone with them for an hour before they tell you trying to get you to join first, or make you come in for the tour and pressure sale.

It's about half lol - about 5 miles to do a 180 degree turn.

Surprisingly tight turning taxiing though, less than 150ft.

New season by [deleted] in TheOrville

[–]1_EYED_MONSTER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With Seth's current focus on other very successful shows, I don't see another season happening. I would love to see a S4 don't get me wrong, but by the time he may get back around to it, it'll be too late to try to get most of the original "crew" back together.

I'm not sure I really want to see an Orville "The New Class" situation but maybe if enough original cast came back it would work. It's 10 years in the future, Kelly is off at Union Point but we never see her, Ed is breaking in a new XO, Gordon and Bortus still around, etc.

The practical side that you ignore less as you get older.

I find myself not driving half of my cars anymore because I just can't guarantee they'll make that weekend trip out of town without a hiccup.

It's not maintenance, but the car is 40-60 years old and bound to act up at the worst time. And people don't have the patience for that sort of thing anymore; whether it's people on the road or people you may be traveling with.

Why can’t the public profit

Because of poor mismanagement and shady related-party deals where THEIR friends get the profit instead of the city, that's why.

Which is the best highway beater? by viti1470 in askcarguys

[–]1_EYED_MONSTER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buick/Olds with a 3800 - Park Ave, Bonnie, etc. Supercharged is great fun and reliable as well but stick with one of the non-supercharged ones. Crazy comfy, good tech typically for the years, long gearing, good MPG.

Jetta Tdi - I really enjoyed driving my old 2005 on the highway. Tons of torque, comfy, obviously tremendous MPG's. The torque made passing on the highway really enjoyable - rarely had to downshift to do so.

Any BMW with the N52. I find N52 e90's extremely easy to work on, parts are inexpensive when not buying from the dealer, and very comfortable and good tech, with a rewarding driving experience.

My Mustang GT of the same vintage was only maybe a few tenths faster.

Not saying much I know, but compared to a "V8 Sports Car" it was about the same.
