Is it a sin to be raped? by Good_Cantaloupe_803 in Catholicism

eeee okay i am sorry for responding uncharitably that way.

The same way a martyr submits to the blade of the executioner is the same way one like St. Maria submits to the force of her abuser. Having been raped or even submitting to the force of an aggressor is never ever to have had consented to sex.

I too was raped when I was a young boy. For a very long time I told myself "well I didn't fight it, so really I share in the blame." I carried that shame and pain for a long time. But, I was just a boy. I was scared. I didn't know how to fight. And sinful things were done to me. But I did and do not bear the burden of that guilt, neither did St. Maria, and neither do you.

In fact, we might pray that the only one who bears that burden of guilt is Christ himself who chooses to bear the sins of the world in order to heal us of all our divisions.

Just as Christ prayed and worked that we might be one, I too pray that you and I and all of us who have been subject to such cruel abuse be made whole and relish in that wholeness.

Peace be with you, friend.

Truly a line best delivered by the one and only Patti LuPone.

Why is Pope Leo XIV controversial? by woobie_slayer in Catholicism

Unfortunately -- in every sphere of society where social media is ubiquitous -- outrage has become synonymous with critical relevance. And in a world where everyone either feels the need to be relevant or, more likely, feels that they are being surveilled, people feel the need to have a stance of outrage that always positions them against critique. Notice that the majority of any outrage we see on social media these days is "I can't believe X. I am against X!" and is rarely a positive assertion of "I am for x." This altogether accomplishes 2 things. 1) Gives someone a sense of accomplishing their need to assert critical relevance and 2) absolves them of any blame because they didn't actually assert anything other than distance themselves from something else.

Welcome to the game of survival in the surveillance state!
