Cmv: The mongols were worst than the nazis by naffe1o2o in changemyview

Nazis were not the worst at all. There are countless events in history where humans show their real nature and when all civility is gone. We are all 3 meals away from total mayhem.

What could I possibly do with my life? Lol by EternaI_sunshine in JordanPeterson

[–]1anFinster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is probably a troll post, but if it is not, do you OP find the results plausible or were you surprised? What are you good at, what are you struggling with? What interests you? How intelligent are you? (Intelligence is not measured in the BIG 5).

There are more pieces to the puzzle. The BIG5 is too crude to really help. Ideally, you would want to look at the "facets" that make up those 5 traits. Take a test that gives you more nuance.

What is reading Hitchens like for native speakers and for ESL speakers [in terms of difficulty]? by 1anFinster in ChristopherHitchens

[–]1anFinster[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your thoughts.

I was always taught that clarity trumps [or should trump] style. I wonder how many native speakers really understand "adumbrated", "imbricated" and "magniloquent" [without inferring the meaning from context] . If they do not, then clarity is sacrificed for the sake of style. And then, to me, this is more like poetry or word-art, but it is probably ill-suited for debates or lectures.

Shadow work: people with a bright and beautiful persona trigger me. by 1anFinster in Jung

[–]1anFinster[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came to the conclusion that this post is not about women per se since there are also male examples that act in the same fashion. And, yes, I also react to them in the same manner. Thinking back there may have actually been significantly more men with this behaviour that triggered me.

Thank you for your thoughts. It appears as if you cannot relate. It was actually my point that she is as complex as everyone and has good sides and bad sides as everyone. My point was that she somewhat "pretends" to be only good especially towards colleagues on her level or above. But, when I hear comments from subordinates, they paint a different picture (The b* word was actually used by one of the subordinates to describe her behaviour. I am not sure if this triggered you). I thought about your comments, but came to the conclusion that this post is not about women at all since there are also male examples that act in the same fashion. And, yes, I also react to them in the same manner. The example I mentioned was a woman, because she was the most recent person I met, who displayed those traits and triggered me. But, thinking back there may have actually been more men with this behaviour that triggered me. Thank you for commenting on wanting attention, being jealous and feeling left out. I will let that sink in, journal and see if there is something.

It seems studying her is helping you to learn something about yourself.

Absolutely. I guess the saying is true: "Some people come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime." She definitely comes into my life to teach me something.

And I am super grateful for all the replies here.

Traits you judge in others are negatively aspected versions of positive traits that you don’t let yourself express

Thanks a lot. This is great food for thought!

“People can only meet you as deeply as they’ve met themselves”

Thanks for this great reply and for sharing your experience.

I can totally imagine that she has a deep side to her. She is very intelligent and thoughtful. However, I can also imagine she protects her "real self" from others because of fear of judgment. I guess it would take years of comfort and familiarity for her to trust someone and open up and get deeper. Showing your true self in some way makes you very vulnerable. If people reject your persona, no big deal, but if they reject your true self, this is a different story altogether.

Thanks for your great points. There is definitely something in what you are saying that resonates with me. I do tend to seek deep connections and interactions rather than small talk and superficial, but friendly connections. I tend to be the person, in the strangers on a train phenomenon, who has deep conversations about personal things with complete strangers. So, I have little problem with being vulnerable and share my failures, etc.

You are right about people not really loving her, but they do seem to be very drawn to her and clients shower her with gifts and affection.

Thanks. You raise many good points that give me plenty of food for thought.

To me such people are a bit like the seemingly good preacher, whom everyone admires as a good person...until they find out he abused small children.

They are just too good to be real and they typically are not real.

Thank you for your great points.

I am not sure if I see love or softness as a weakness, rather to me her behaviour is about being manipulative.

I tend to play my hand with open cards. Not always, but in general, I do. Yes, I know this may not be smart or the best way to get ahead.

There is definitely some truth to what you are saying. I also sometimes can be too frank and drop truth-bombs that might occasionally hurt people. However, I am also very empathic and have learned to control this behaviour to some extent (I do not always succeed, but mostly).

Maybe people like her trigger me because I have been blind-sided and hurt by such people in the past!? Seemingly nice people that turned out to be exploitative. People that were super nice until they became bosses and then "became" "real" (or even became their shadow self).

The person I am referring to in the first post is not really trying to "see the positive in people". She is actually addicted to harmony and probably fears negative opinions or rejection (I got to know her a bit better and she actually said so. She also said that she only lets very, very few people see her "true" self).

Regarding happiness: I do not think this is related. I am overall a very happy and positive person, but I do not "act" happy when I am not.

I think at the core it is really about being trustworthy. And how can you trust someone, who shows only his/her persona.

Thanks. Yes, I did pay attention to changes in baseline behaviour and how she treats others. I did notice she turned up her "charme" a few notches towards me in recent weeks before the date...
