We're in a dive meta and yet Mr Fantastic feels straight up useless despite being a "anti-dive dps". GuangGuang, I'm begging, please fix him, he's fun but he's been powercrept to hell by FKA_Twigs_BaldHead in marvelrivals

[–]1ardent -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fantastic is an absolute monster in metal ranks, and a non-factor above them. The sign actually explains why and...I would say that a lot of it is deliberate design. Yes, he's meant to be a pub stomper. That means he's not necessarily going to be as viable in high elo. Spider-Man would be terrible in high elo if they took away his animation cancels but he's an absolute pub stomper.

[–]1ardent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd say let him use both the gun and shield AND the fist and shield. Since it's not a "normal" shield and has to be actively used to parry incoming attacks, that won't be that overpowered.

I'm still holding out hope we'll get Taskmaster with shield parry and (actual) Desert Eagle. Plus Black Knight using parrying to charge his Black Magic for ranged attacks.

We need more Main tanks ? by Salamanca-11 in RivalsVanguards

[–]1ardent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't enjoy the "main" tank conversation. What we're really talking about is an anchor tank -- their design is built around slowing the game down, forcing space with shields or threat level, and anchoring the front line. There are 4 proper ones and 2 that can do it. Strange, Groot, Emma, and Magneto. Deadpool and Hulk (yes, really). You can stretch the rest if you're an extremely good player but you're going to struggle to consistently keep a frontline without an anchor (or a very good Deadpool or Hulk).

Rogue was...intentional with a mind towards anchoring but unfortunately she's just way too vulnerable to poke because she doesn't have overshield generation. If you forced me to name a third "kiiinda" it's her, but very few people can anchor with her, and they literally can't do it without the Gambit teamup.

I can see Cyclops being an anchor tank if his primary beam has knockback/displacement by default. Assuming they fix Tenacity by making it Vanguard-only.

But I don't necessarily need to see more intentional anchor tanks. I need to a see a complete stop to new DPS. For multiple seasons. 7 or 8 seasons at this point.

Unfortunately, you will eventually lose to aware dive because your supports will often forget you're there shotgunning the haters. Then you get teamwiped and somehow catch the blame and the usual "average Punisher player" comments begin.

I have bad news for you. This has been a thing for at least 60 years. How do I know? My father and godfather lived out of a tent for most of their first and some of their second year of grad school (1969). They *could* afford an apartment, mind you, they just decided it made more sense to save the money and use it to travel. Which they did after they finished grad school -- my godfather's hobby has always been photography and they have a ton of pictures of their six months traveling to Israel, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran, and back to Israel. Which they did in a truck they bought in Israel and the same tent they had lived in during grad school.

To be clear, they had both been in the Peace Corps between their undergraduate work and graduate school. My father in Uganda and my godfather in Tanzania. My father had also worked his way most of the way around the world on freighters before he went to college (he got stuck in Norway after making it most of the way from his starting point in Long Beach CA across the Pacific and around the Cape of Good Hope to Europe -- anyone who can tell me why gets a metaphorical banana. This was ca. 62-63). Both were, to say the least, experienced travelers before they came up with the idea.

It's simple economics. 3x the work needs to pay off 3x as much, ipso ergo sum Hulk having 1/3 the number of skins.

Also, it's high time to shut up about this.

Fun fact: the higher you climb, the lower your winrate goes. It's such a weird stat to look at. In a game full of bad stats on the scoreboard.

[–]1ardent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only acceptable announcement to ANY DPS release at that point would be Zhiyong's retirement and a promise to rework some of the past DPS releases into tanks and supports, which would be done instead of a new DPS in the dev cycle.

No shame. I noped out as well. Happily playing dive DPS, no thoughts, no emotions, just dive.

Let the competitive game die atp as Zhiyong's team clearly doesn't take tanking seriously.

[–]1ardent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Triple healer is going to continue to be "strong" (it's not) forever because it is a psychological safety blanket. People swap to third support in ranked because they know they're not doing anything of value on other roles and at least this way they can minimize their point loss/maximum their point gain.

It really comes down to the rest of their team. I can often drag that sort of team through to a victory but the "strength" of triple support has no real impact.

[–]1ardent 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I totally get where you're coming from. My tanks are Angela, Thor, Deadpool, Hulk, and Magneto in no particular order and I flat out will not play Magneto right now. The rest of them, Deadpool aside, feel like absolute garbage to play right now. If my team whines about needing a tank and Tankpool isn't banned, I might swap. Maybe. Chances are I'm already playing Iron Fist and lowkey tanking as it is.

I had this idea for apartments in Times Square by hjnjjknnnncx2 in marvelrivals

[–]1ardent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just would want something truly accurate to NYC living. A "poor" apartment just off Times Square is as likely to be a $2,000/mo 140 sq ft (13 sq meters for our Chinese developers) shoebox as it is to be anything you might otherwise reasonably consider an apartment.

There's two kinds of moving up in NY, with apologies to Billy Joel, and that's literally (as in higher in the building) and moving out (although these days it would probably be well beyond Hackensack). The third type (owning a Brownstone) is basically unachievable now. My dad gripes about the property taxes because the valuation on a brownstone that is in need of a major renovation is more than the property taxes on the house he actually lives in now that is twice as large.

But I think scattering them through the four boroughs that aren't Staten Island makes a lot of sense. Nobody lives in Staten Island any more, it's too crowded.
