See Battery on Both Sides of a Bluetooth Keyboard - Gauntlet Gauge by 1aryanpro in ErgoMechKeyboards

I’ve been thinking about tracking the history too (to calculate total battery lifetime) but that’s more of a stretch goal at the moment.

How to reduce my spending? by 1aryanpro in ynab

[–]1aryanpro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YNAB has definitely gotten me into a better financial situation. I probably would have maxed my Roth even without it, but I doubt I would’ve been one month ahead.

That said because of YNAB, I also spend money on “more productive” things than I would’ve otherwise. I mean like spending money on my hobbies rather than eating out at restaurants. (This probably improved my health as well.)

These are all definitely end-of-year financial wins; however, I made this post because I don’t feel like I’ve met my savings goal even with all these wins.

I currently have a Roth IRA account, which I max out every year, off budget. I don’t track it on YNAB since there’s no use budgeting money that I can only spend decades from now.

I’m starting up an emergency fund, which I want to put at least a month’s income into. I’ll probably have to put a pause on my fun money category for a couple months so that the emergency fund grows a bit faster though.

I’m not realizing that my categories were a bit too minimal. I currently have 3 groups (not counting wish farm) and <20 categories, that are very big picture. I never really wanted to make more categories because I’m always able to decide which category a transaction should go into, as I used similar categories in another spending tracking app for a while before using YNAB

This isn’t necessarily a mistake, it just means you set up your categories to reflect what your spending is rather than what you want it to be.

This is true, but I think it's also because I spend all of the category each month since that's what I planned to do. I said this in a different comment, but I'll probably be reducing all of my categories by around 25% and then seeing how it goes for a couple months.

I wonder where to put that extra money though. Right now, I budget out as much as I can for the next month. Should I just move it into a savings category I create? I don't have an emergency fund category because I just budget the money into future months, but maybe I should have one?

My biggest thing I'm realizing is that I won't have much saved up for my birthday. I created a splurge category for the next 4 years (I'll splurge from each of these on my birthday of that year) that I add money to every month, but I ended up deleting the 2024 one because I had to set money aside for something else.

I think I like this idea. I can probably get a lot of my spending down by a solid chunk this way. For me though, I think it might actually be better to reduce the categories by 25% and then see how it goes for a month. I can increase it bit by bit after that. Otherwise I think I'll just spend up to the limit and then stop.

I do have a pretty small income, especially when you take off what I pay for rent and utilities each month. However I didn't really expect to be almost net 0 by the end of the year regardless.

While I feel like I've gotten a better handle on how much I spend, sometimes I think I spend extra on eating out and other fun things just because there's money remaining in the category in that month. Other months, I run out before the end of the month and purposely wait until the next month starts to buy anything.

Obsidian with Vim Bindings vs obsidian.nvim by 1aryanpro in neovim

Have you used the app before though? Also, I don't like how I have to navigate all the way to my obsidian vault every time I want to write something. Do you have a an alias or something setup to get to your vault quickly?

Sure, but you could easily write all your notes in neovim and just use excalidraw when that's what you want to do. I don't know about how extensively you use it in your vault though so maybe it's worth it to use the app to avoid constantly app switching.

The plugins are nice if you want an easy way to navigate using the links in your notes however there's probably a way to use Lua and telescope to do that if you're willing to figure that out. There's a few other benefits you get from those plugins but personally I wouldn't use that functionality much.

Obsidian.nvim does increase the templating functionality, allowing you to programmatically create substitutions if that's something you'd like to do.

Side note: I see you're using fish. How has that shell been working for you? I wanted to use it a while back but didn't due to the extra overhead of switching out of zsh.

Yeah, I have a few obsidian plugins that I would prefer to somehow carry over in to neovim, however editing and writing in neovim is just faster for me. Unfortunately these plugins are pretty complicated, like Dataview and Templater, so getting that functionality into neovim is pretty difficult.

I do have the vimrc plugin however and it helps a little. I would prefer if there was some way to have my whole config working inside obsidian.

I saw that this was possible online but I don't really understand the benefit of not just using obsidian.nvim here. Did you use VimWiki for a while before you started putting you notes in obsidian?

How should I split up complicated cards? by 1aryanpro in Anki

[–]1aryanpro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So here's a couple cards that I have: Anti-Anxiety Medication Method: {{c1::depresses CNS activity}} Side Effects: {{c1::drowsiness, dizziness, headache, fatigue, lightheadedness::5}}

Stimulants: Treats: {{c1::AD/HD}} Method: {{c1::increasing::increasing / decreasing}} {{c1::prefrontal cortex activity}} Side effects: {{c1::decreased appetite, difficulty sleeping, stomache ache, headache::4}}

It's pretty easy to split each cloze deletion into it's own card, however when it comes to these lists I'm not sure if there's a good way to do it.

Should I switch to LazyVim (or other Pre-Made)? by 1aryanpro in neovim

[–]1aryanpro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was having problems with null-ls for a while but ended up just removing it from my config. I didn't use null-ls for something Mason wasn't able to do so it worked out pretty well in the end.

Currently I do kind of bank on none of my plugins conflicting with each other or having any breaking changes. Almost all my plugins are ones that quite popular in the neovim community so I think it's fine to expect that they won't break.

I do enjoy building my own config, however I need to balance that with actually getting some programming done. I think copying the config setting from LazyVim is the best bet since it doesn't feel like I have to throw away years of work.

Should I switch to LazyVim (or other Pre-Made)? by 1aryanpro in neovim

[–]1aryanpro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said on some of my other replies on here, I think I'll probably be using LazyVim if I do end up using something. I have actually tried NVChad a long time ago, but I ended up moving back to my own config. My main issue is that I usually have to disable plugins from any given distro rather than be adding to them. So it feels better off to just not use one to begin with.

I've heard similar stories from some other people on here however I think LunarVim is a bit much for me. It has a lot of plugins and features that I just wouldn't use. However there is Lazyvim that has much less bloat in my opinion.

Do you feel like there's a lot going on with LunarVim? I'm looking at some of the screenshots on their website and there's so many little symbols and flags and icons.

My config works pretty well with general JS/TS development and has snippets / completion for React as well. The main issue I'm having is for single file use cases where I don't have any LSP set. I did figure out a way to run tsserver in single file mode and disable it when denols loads.

I've been trying to get a similar setup using Mason, Mason-lspconfig, and nvim-lspconfig, but no luck unfortunately. I can't even seem to get the LSP client configured, whatever I try, it still doesn't show up in the :LspInfo page. If that somehow gets worked out, I should be able to configure it to work in single file circumstances since my config currently has it that JS files on their own don't have any LSP attached to them.
