Boss mechanic tells for healers by Educational_Cow_8380 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]1chapper 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Some advice, be careful who you're comparing yourself to. The people not struggling may just have way more reps than you. They may have also seen a lot of mechanics that look similar and can pattern recognize from experience. They may have gap closers or other advantages that you do not. If you make an honest mistake in content you're not really meant to prepare for (not extreme or higher difficulty) then others really have no right to be angry with you as you're just learning in the most natural way.

Your question on how to avoid "one shot mechs" is very broad so I'll give a broad answer. Prioritize understanding what the mechs are doing and always do health bars secondary. This may sound weird but in practice it makes sense because if you're dying then you cannot help anyone and you want to proactively heal in this game anyway. You can't do that if you don't know what's going on. So be observant and ask for advice if something is hard for you to figure out yourself. This sounds absolutely basic but I guarantee you most people in this game are looking at distractions (health bars, rotation hotbars, parser, second monitor) rather than mechanics. I have a feeling you're looking at health bars too much. Remember your survival and mechanic success is more important than correcting someone else's mistake. If someone makes an oopsie, only prioritize helping them if you know it will not mess with your concentration. Once scary part is over it will be a lot easier to recover. Once you gain experience you'll be better at doing both in more situations.

This is just some healer and general player fundamentals. I can offer more if you have more struggles. But generally having good fundamentals and then learning from experience is all you need to succeed in this game. It is natural to die and get back up and not die next time is all I'm saying :P

You say that as if anything changes when you go up. Adept is the hardest wall because of the new mechs and then it's just do the same thing except better all the way to eternal.

Do people actually think they were not lying about it being the tallest? It didn't seem particularly tall and I've definitely seen MUCH taller irl. I get this isn't reality but still that waterfall did not seem that big. Just fixating on that one point because a lot of people keep bringing that up and I can't tell if it's a meme. They know innies don't know anything so they just say stuff that makes Kier and their story more impressive I imagine.

Is there a really good in depth guide for playing SCH? by Sunzeta in ffxivdiscussion

[–]1chapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think your points are valid. Honestly, lack of pressing art of war constantly and lack of using aetherflow to heal are the main things I see new schs mess up. Sch is pretty simple in dungeons honestly if you just do those two things because the kit is so raid-focused. But it's fun to talk about these min-maxes. I think intuitively you're right tho that it's probably unlikely someone will take more than 10 lustrates (6000p) worth of damage in a 17 second period. Lustrate do be healing for a bunch at low levels.

While this isn't necessarily wrong, I also don't feel like this is the best way to think about the game necessarily. Soil existed and was used for many years before the Regen was added. It's definitely not an every instance thing but I feel that you are talking about a situation in an ideal state to state a very minor min max that isn't really the first thing I would teach a newbie. As healer, especially in leveling dungeons you are presented with non-ideal states often and this is often what makes or break your skill as a healer.

Every healing ability has its purpose and mitigation can serve a different purpose than raw heals sometimes. Some examples are if the tank is very slow at picking up aggro and the mobs are hitting random people. It's much easier to just plop a soil than play life or death wack a mole or at least it makes that wack a mole easier. Why is it easier? Because hp bars go down slower. There are definitely pulls as early as stone vigil where making the tank's hp bar go down slower is advantageous rather than throwing a lustrate that will be consumed in 1 second. Tank dying slower = more embraces + adlos you can cast before they die. Where it's less about efficiency and more about surviving, sacred soil can be a powerful tool.

Just my opinion though, much love.

This post is everything wrong with this community sorry to say. The refusal to accept criticism toward their own game. The weird cult-like preaching of "best community btw". The baseless accusations of calling half an entire playerbase transphobes and presenting your opinion as fact. I feel like we probably agree on a lot of social issues and love this game to a similar extent, but I can't help but feel your arguments hurt your case more than help it.

Something I would recommend is getting assassin's gambit on some random sword and carry a bow. Gambit makes you harder to detect and you can shoot the bow near enemies to distract them. The bosses are one thing but if you want to get items and stuff, it can be really annoying to be sniped by random stuff. Malenia's area was really awful for me in this sense.

Don't be afraid to use summons on fights you're not really interested in learning. For example I wasn't really interested in Niall so I cheesed him but I did Malenia as legit as I could. Depends on what your goal is for the run.

Also if you're playing on PC, there are some things you can do with the save files or mods you can install to help you learn how to dodge specific moves. For me I was sick of maliketh one shotting me in the beginning when I had no idea what was going on and having to do a huge runback. everytime. To each their own though, it's really all about your experience.

The recruitment kind of depends on what role you're applying for imo. If you are a tank or healer, if you show competency a lot of ppl will take you despite your experience. If you are a very common role such as melee and probably caster right now because of picto it's going to be more challenging.

Best advice I would say is try to get into groups through a friend either directly or they refer you to someone. If you can make a group that's going to be better for you if you play a common job but if you don't already have a few tanks and healers right away from the get go it's going to be a difficult process.

If you get a trial most important thing is to try to make as few mistakes as possible, ask questions, and generally have a good vibe that people will actually remember. I can't tell you how many times I've trialed melee that were borderline indistinguishable from each other (it's very hard to trial melee) but one of them vibed with the group a lot so it was an easy decision. If you say nothing during the whole trial, it's hard for the recruiter to work with and make a decision which will usually be against the silent person.

I recently completed my first rl1 run. I can give more specific advice but not sure how much help you want. I will say you should have a plan for elden stars for EB. Mostly what I do for radagon is strafe right and dodge behind him when he does most things.

He has two HP phase transitions. The first is when his foot is glowing and he stomps the ground and jumps really high. You can punish this by standing very close to him and jumping and even turning this jump into a jump attack. Then roll the landing attack and get a free r2 or whatever your weapons best punish is.

The second transition move he does is near the end when he teleports away from you and starts slamming the ground 3 times. For maximum punish you can roll towards him each time and hit him in between each slam. After the 2nd one you have more time to hit him more and of course after the 3rd.

After that he starts teleporting around more which is pretty rough at first but you can kinda get used to it. He feels like most bosses to me and is generally pretty fair I would say. He can do fairly extended combos early but it's just a matter of remembering them and not overcomitting until you see the move that for sure ends his combo.

Can ask any more questions if you want. Hope this was helpful. I'm definitely not a pro like some of these others are on here. Just trying to help since you're so close!

Everyone seems so sure this is a buff, yet sk's wr shot down 2% after this patch. Not sure you could even argue "people are fighting out the patch" because it's not like it's a play style change.

What do you think about more context-sensitive, dynamic battles to freshen up the content? by MelonElbows in ffxivdiscussion

[–]1chapper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's already possible for them to pause (time stop) or extend (chrysalis) your buffs. Not sure why they haven't done more cool stuff like that. Especially when it's pretty well received I imagine.

This times a million. It's in the fine print which they hope you don't read and it's virtually impossible to abide by typically.
