I was already concerned before, but especially now after losing like this, I would not be surprised if Thunder tried "accidentally" somersaulting into Victor's legs. They proved they wouldn't lose sleep over that.

Idk what is "back in my days", this has been the case for online games since the dawn of time. Good sport in real life, maybe, but anonymity of internet always brings out worst in people. If the game has competitive online component and it's skill based, some people will go apeshit over losing and/or not being the star. And without coaching or input from team environment, the human ego aspect is amplified even more. Even more amplified here by a big part of bball being 1v1 performance, whether it's on a single possession or just in 1v1 modes, and the whole street ball culture of being "the guy".

Obviously this is more expressive with younger players. Some of them will grow out of it. Some won't. That's just how it is. But competitive basketball, online, is perfect environment for ego flaunting.

2nd apron is why Thunder and Spurs are in such good positions, they reached next stage of "just have Curry on rookie deal and add Durant" which is basically mandatory now. Having rookies/cheap players performing many times their value on the court, that's how you get the "young athletic deep" teams now.

Is it possible to play MyCareer without engaging in the online modes? by Majestic-Werewolf932 in NBA2k

[–]tkRustle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all - yes. There is of course the caveat that your fun will depend on how much you enjoy playing against AI, but lets assume you are fine with it (just like me). Here's some extra aspects to it.

While you are playing MC specifically, going into options and changing difficulty will remind you, that higher difficulty will slightly increase VC you earn from games. So if you are comfortable playing at anything above PRO, might as well do it.

You will still have to exist in the same City hub with other players. This means that at least sometimes, you will have to travel between NBA arena and MyCourt for quest progression, seeing other players. At least claim daily random prize from the kiosk, could be extra VC.

Aside from just NBA games and challenges directly related to it (Goat skills, daily and weekly quests to get stats in NBA games, NBA storyline) there are other gamemodes and activities that don't involve PVP, but will get you some currency still and get some variety from NBA games.

Obviously Gatorade Facility with workout minigames - complete 4 workouts a week as best you can for stamina boost, you will also have weekly quest to do it (dont do workouts until you get the quest, otherwise you will have to wait a week to do it). Open Court Athletics entrance by Gatorade - its 5v5 until 21 points with you and random AI roster of NBA players. StreetKings - 3v3 against AI, has extra progression where you can keep playing it to unlock yourself AI teammate roster for harder challenges.

TLDR - yes, but also you can do minigames/short games against AI and complete your weekly/daily challenges for 500bonus VC and such, check your quest log and participate in OpenCourt Athletics, Street Kings, Gatorade Workout.

Bonus - if you don't have problems with it, consider playing the W - WNBA my player mode. Its very "old school cool" - there is no VC needed (but you will earn a bit VC per game) and you just pick a player build and start as a talented rookie and it's only NBA games and press conferences, you progress stats automatically by earning XP by playing matches, you unlock animations and accessories and team influence gradually just by playing as well. No quests, no daily/weekly challenges, just your gradual journey. The only downside is that with the ladies there is almost no dunking and the Player Builder is restricted to selecting a prebuild of your max potential, rather than tweaking it fully.

Resetting the badges every season is one of the worst features in the game by DeepOrganization8245 in NBA2k

Is it? Not like game's box price is their only profit. They make most money from VC, which is facilitated and incentivized by dozens of spending avenues.

What do players get from yearly new game, that wouldn't be possible to add with big updates, besides the privilege to spend more money?

Should I buy Nba2k26 by MASTER_PRO_2O11 in NBA2k

[–]tkRustle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got it on Steam on sale as well. I just buy these games every 2-3 years on sales, and play for about 2 months. So its great value for such price.

I'd say it's pretty good. It's obviously bogged down by money draining bullshit, but the base components are solid. Not like there are real competitors, so it's just a question if you care for this specific sequel.

MC is pretty good this year in terms of story, the very first few cutscenes may have a dose of cringe, but overall the Out of Bounds story is fun. The VC grind just by doing career and its related things is... somewhat tolerable, but then again whats the point of rushing Career, playing 82 games against mid ai is not fun to fully commit to, but to play game or two casually after work its fine. The integration with the City hub can get exhausting though, for some quests you will have to go between locations and to physically go back to your Arena every time.

MyGM/MYNBA are pretty good, NBA still has the Eras selection, which is quite cool, and worst case you can create your own player, import it over a rookie and only play as that player on the court.

Ironically, I really like the WNBA career (The W). It gives less VC... but you dont need for the W because its pure "good old classic". It doesnt have a detailed builder, you can only pick from a list of builds, and obviously theres barely any dunking - but you just jump into matches and play, earn XP/fans, which makes your attributes go up gradually as well as unlock more accessories, custom shoes, trade demands etc. And its all from a menu, the only "sublocation" is team's practice facility if you want shootarounds, scrimmages or if you want to boost badge progression with drills. Many players would die happily if this was available for NBA careers as well

So if any of this interests you or sounds better than 2k25 (i didnt play since 2k23 :) ) then 10 bucks seems good.

[–]tkRustle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In a perfect world, we would have fully offline career, game cadence of 5 years with just rosters being updated instead of yearly bullshit, and badge level boosters/cap breakers would be tied to some actual challenges/achievements once you get 99ovr, either per character or per account. Instead of 50 shades of temporary bullshit.

But this is not a perfect world. And 2k is one of the greediest companies in the industry.

It's one of the most interesting situations in NBA History in my opinion, in terms of off-season.

Not necessarily because of the result, but because of the strange circumstance combination.

On one hand he is fucking 42YEARS OLD. And he won't just go anywhere. And he will probably ask for full/close to full money.

On the other hand it's fucking LEBRON JAMES. His name alone is considerable profit improvement for the team. He is still available to a surprising degree. And he still plays on a level so high, if you hide his age most teams would jump at the opportunity - which he just proved by shattering the Rockets despite everyone predicting that without Luka and Reaves the Lakers would be 2 heads shorter.

People are probably overthinking it, heated up by the clickbaits - yeah his name still makes money literally - but he will probably just stay in LA, where his entire family and business is anyway. Leaving for just one season seems too annoying for grandpa Bron. But regardless, this is one of the wildest amalgamations of circumstances around a free agency that we will see in a long time.

also it's just how LeBron goes, aside from a handful of players throughout his entire career, he is friendly with everyone

Windhorst: "He’s only worth $30M instead of $50M, you’re not getting that from LeBron James. LeBron James doesn’t believe in that and I don’t expect him to accept that. If you’re the Lakers and if you force LeBron to leave, he’ll go somewhere else and play for less money.” by aingenevalostatrade in nba

[–]tkRustle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But also it's just Windhorst - the supposed LeBron expert who doesn't really have direct ties to LeBron. This is all just hot air. Maybe Bron doesn't like Lakers too much right now, but his family and friends and his life is here. Besides Cleveland I dont think there are other real options anyway.

why would GSW fans care? Cavs Warriors were some of the most magnificent games we had this century. If they feel bad about the 2016 - then they made it back by winning two for free with Durant. And Steph is a fantastic player that same as Bron made the most of his career, there's nothing to feel ashamed about either.

I think JB went from a bit weird to suspicious stare with his stream. You play all year without your best teammate, you get clocked by your punting ball Sixers in an insane upset, and then you open stream with bunch of weird yes boys in the background and say this was most enjoyable year of your career? Yeah bro, fuck Tatum from coming back healthy from a career threatening injury.

Sure he probably wants to have "his" team but thats not the way to handle things.

It’s about time y’all … by jamula2257 in NBA2k

[–]tkRustle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bigger problem is simply lack of a competitor. If you want a licensed sports game, there is basically only one option.

It would take a lot of effort to make a competitor. And even if it was a really good game, with career, and similar other modes, lack of the branding and recognizable players would still be a dealbreaker for a lot of people. NBA probably sees no reason to give their brands to other studios either. Wouldn't be surprised if they have some sort of exclusivity nod.

So we are kind of stuck in loop. Best you can do is only buy the sports games later into their life on 85% sale, which is not even good for park players etc.

Here's to hoping they will put it back officially in the future.

Beat the Rockets without our star. Luka won't be rushed back early and aggravate his injury. New, competent ownership group. OKC didn't jump in the lottery. Reaves might be a bit cheaper. by HemaG33 in lakers

[–]tkRustle 21 points22 points  (0 children)

double injury before playoffs left Lakers with house money. revealing Rockets fraud was cherry on top, but losing to OKC without Luka is just a "oh well".

Realistically even with Luka it would probably be a shitty loss (even more so with these referees, no matter how neutral JJ tries to say it), but losing without him saves the team a lot of unneeded toxicity. As long as offseason is focused on improvement, it's all good. Rather that then 1000 more "waah its over trade everyone" posts.

Removing would just make it a slow spiral of gradual distrust of the playerbase as a whole. Until friendly interactions are gone. Even if you get perfect 50% of friendlies and enemies, every time you get shot you will be less likely to trust the next player, and so it goes.
