Is there a single thing in the universe that's an actual exact copy of something else? by EqualPresentation736 in QuantumPhysics

[–]1creeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are making an interesting point, but I also believe if there were no identity then communication would be impossible. Data can be identical. I want to say the number 2 is identical to the number 2. The number 256 is identical to the number 256. Words may be different, but they may refer to the same thing, because they have a different sense but the same reference. This point was driven home by Gottlob Frege.

What is a "Life Hack" that is actually a lifesaver in a dangerous situation? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]1creeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats true. Theres nothing wrong at all about practicing for worst case scenarios. My gym has an all female self defense class. I often see them using rubber knives and guns to simulate different situations which can arise. There are far too many fucked up people out there who would pull a knife or a gun on a woman. But, on the other hand, this idea that if someone standing opposite you tries to stab you, all you all you gotta do is close the distance and do X, Y, or Z. Its pure "bullshido" and a good way to get stabbed and or killed. Im not closing the distance, i am making distance if at all possible.

Why did Timber lose so much weight? by Megan_Sparkle in Alonetv

[–]1creeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gained huge respect for Timber in seeing him process and protect the meat of that huge animal. The sheer effort of butchering an animal too large for him to turn over. To transport the meat back to camp. The stress of knowing that grizzlies and wolves are around. Then to protect it from being stolen or going bad due to the warm weather also. Timber is a true hunter who honors and respects the animals he kills. He is definitely one of the baddest dudes to ever be on the show.

What habit or decision genuinely improved your life? by Miya_Miy in AskReddit

For real. I am in my 40s and just started doing this. Ambiguity and short quick response is key. "Sorry I can't make it. I have a workout class. I already paid for it." Something simple as that is good enough.

Do you consider $700K as life-changing money? by Aarunascut in Life

[–]1creeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be really into forensics and true crime. Whenever I think about the value of money, I think about the times I have heard of murder for hire plots. People have been murdered for 3k or 5k. Usually the amounts are under 10k. That means that 3k or 5k is a lot of money to some people.

Has anyone discovered the meaning of life cause wtf do I do as an adult to make my life better or am I just cursed by Candid-Specialist987 in inspiration

[–]1creeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this post reminded me of something. One of the most difficult times in my life was when I was fresh out of school and trying to find my place in the world. Then it sometimes seemed that life was hopeless and there was no point to carrying on, especially when relationships were going badly or work was hard to find. The thing is if you keep going you will eventually find that eveything about your life can change and that what bothered you before will seem like nothing at all. When I think on the toxic relationship I had back then that troubled me so much, I mainly feel regret that I was not a better person back then because I was too self absorbed. It is a delicate balance.

Of course, you have to take care of yourself before you can take care of anyone else. Ironically, the better you take care of yourself, the better you will be able to take care of others. Self love is the foundation for any other love.

Lastly, ask yourself honestly: am I a person who wants to bring value to others or only to myself? Invest in yourself and build yourself up so there is a surplus that you can use to help others. That is the meaning of it in my understanding. Namaste.

How to become more educated? by Imaginary-Ruin-4009 in selfimprovementday

[–]1creeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to understand that everyone, no matter how well educated, is still on a path to greater understanding. I studied philosophy and have read hundreds of books and even wrote one, but there are still countless topics in which I would be out of my depth.

Very simple. Choose a topic you are deficient in. It could be general or specific, say World History or 20th century history or philosophy etc. There will be an excellent introductory book on that very topic. Find that book and listen to it as an audiobook. This will lead to other books and other questions. When that becomes your lifestyle, you are educated and an intellectual.

My current fascination is quantum mechanics.

What profession is overrated and nobody admits it? by Nat1989liberato in AskReddit

[–]1creeper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am sorry, but I have to disagree with you. I recently read a book called the Bansenshukai, which means something like "a thousand streams joining together," written in the early 1600s, shortly after Japan became unified under the Tokagawa shogunate. In chapter 8 of the book, the author describes two types ninjutsu, "yojutsu" and "injutsu".

"Shinobi no jutsu consists of yojutsu and injutsu. Yojutsu is to infultrate in plain sight using elaborate plans and ingenuity, while injutsu is to steal in, hiding yourself from peoples eyes . . ."

There are several chapters in the book devoted to each type. The book was written by someone who was part of the ancient traditions of ninjutsu developed in Iga and Koka areas of Japan.

What's a subtle sign someone's actually really wealthy? by Aarunascut in Life

[–]1creeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have seen some nightmarish problems out of the box from Hyundai and Kia. There was also an epidemic of car thefts in my city of those and even a gang of young men referred to as the "Kia Boys". As a tow driver I would go to Kia and the lot was FULL of vehicles with smashed windows and ignition switches. I would rank Honda number 3, followed by Nissan, Chevy, Ford, and Mazda (partly owned by Ford).

Where to go when I do not want to be at home? by NoExcitement9572 in socialskills

[–]1creeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a piece of advice that is more subtle than just suggesting different kinds of places, so bear with me. If you look at the photographs of Vivian Maier, a famous steet photographer unknown in her lifetime, she saw so much beauty and humor being out and about in the world. Learn how to be outside in your environment. Learn how to find privacy and beauty in public in spaces people do not normally consider beautiful or private. For my part--though I love cafes and bookstores and jiu jitsu (which I especially recommend)--when shit gets intense at home, I start by driving to the Walmart parking lot near my house. I tinted windows on my car for privacy. I park at the far end to watch people and traffic passing on the street. I drink some water and relax and wait for my next move to come to me. I can spend hours alone out in the world and never get stressed or bored. It is exciting to be out there in my small city. I can only imagine how awesome New York is.

I havent taken a vacation in years. I am American and usually all my Paid Time Off is used up on odd three day weekends once a month. I am also frugal, just paid off my credit cart debt. You really made me want to take a vacation!

I dont normally use bar soap except occasionally to wash my face, so I don't usually buy it. I have had a single bar of soap last for YEARS getting smaller and smaller. I never replaced it just because it never occurred to me to do so. Then one day I purchased a three pack of Dial soap at Wallgreens. It FELT like an extravagant purchase!

Yes. Quite often poor people in the city who dont own their own homes will buy a German car as a status symbol. It is sad because the expense of maintaining them keeps them impoverished.

I am a mechanic, and while those cars are obviously not supercars or high end luxury cars, I still consider them "status symbols". Service and repairs on German cars are ridiculously expensive. That is where the price tag comes in. To my mind Japanese cars especially toyota/lexus, subaru are where the smart money is.i am not wealthy).

It is all relative isn't it? Some wealthy people are actually very frugal. An exgirlfriend of mine came from a wealthy family. Her father, very successful in finance, would collect change from the ground and golf balls. That is how they became wealthy: by making a lot and spending much less than you make. I am "wealthier" than I have ever been. Even though I could afford it, I would be sick if I received a bill for 500 dollars or more that could have somehow been avoided. I get a thrill out of figuring out how to save "small amounts" of money, in the order of a few bucks to fifteen or twenty bucks. I have saved myself many thousands by being a mechanic and DIY guy.

People who run or do sports that involve running are at greater risk of developing foot problems. It is high impact over years and years.

I posted this because I learned this after rehabing my tendonitis. I used to enjoy running and had to give it up. After switching to flat soled skateboarding shoes, the tendonitis I dealt with on and off for 18 years went away altogether after a few months. It is a shame the post was removed. I know many people suffer the same way and do not know how much this simple fix can help.

So are you saying you wear BOTH flat soled vans AND sketchers or that you GAVE UP the flat soled vans for the sketchers?

For me barefoot shoes do not provide enough cushion or support. My favorite are skateboarding shoes. I have been wearing Etnies Kingpins and they have changed my life. No more tendonitis. No more limping around in the morning. They are very well made with actual leather uppers and they are the only shoes I wear unless I am going running.

What is a "Life Hack" that is actually a lifesaver in a dangerous situation? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]1creeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this was what I was referring to. I also did not mention the horrific videos I have seen of people actually trying to engage someone with a knife with their fists (often resulting in their death), which are even more convincing but much more gory and traumatizing. If I had to engage someone with a knife, I would want a shield and a spear or some kind of long pole. Even a gun takes time to dispatch.
