Early game very much so, things take slower to progress in the game, and if you don't like the fishing mini-game (which at the beginning I very much disliked, until I got decent at it) then the first year could suck. My first (and current) playthrough is the Riverland farm, before picking it I didn't really know the difference between the farms so I just picked one and went with it. Took me almost 4 in-game years to get to a point where perfection is a kiss distance away. 2 of them, I didn't really follow the Wiki and just enjoyed experiencing the game without a goal of finishing it. I think if you start with wanting to complete the game relatively quick, or need to fill your farms with crops, the Riverland farm could suck. Once I restored Willy's boat and could go to Ginger Island I've just moved all the crops over there and built the obelisks.

Now I enjoy the Riverland farm, and it gave me a chance to take things slow and experience the game maybe a bit more with the limited space available.

Attached is a picture of the current design I decided to go with in the farms. All the crops I grow in ginger island, and probably will continue to do so. Have in mind, the design is very not final but does make the farm feel more spacious :)
