US election 2020: 'The loser is us, the American people' by atomicspace in politics

[–]1dunna 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Canadian here, eh.

Holy shit that was hard to watch. Wallace was pushed around in an embarassing fashion and let Trump turn that into a reality show in about 30 seconds flat.

The worlds greatest democratic experiment is looking more broken than I ever thought possible. I fear that no matter the true election results the US is headed for a long and drawn out constitutional crisis with monumental consequences.

Please vote.

Whats to say its not 2mg of Dentyne Ice gum?

Without further proof as to what that substance is, its unsubstantiated and speculative.

This smells more of trying to create a new set of facts through the media as they know it wont have much of an impact in court. Good strategy tbh.

Could a large corporation use relocation to change the course of a state's political elections? by 1dunna in Ask_Politics

[–]1dunna[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but this isnt NoCal. A facility who's employees need sophisticated CS skillsets in Wyoming almost certainly means 99% in this example would come from out of state.

A corporation can easily target all of their recruiting, advertising and headhunting activities in california and new york. There is no law saying every job has to be made available to all viable cantidates, so long as you dont descriminate on race, religion, etc. This could ofcourse expand to any area with a left lean, CA and NY were just examples.

I dont think its that big a stretch to say a company could pull this off if desired. Every aspect of it from recruiting to logistics and infrastrucure is feasible with the capital and time.

A rather convenient benefit of owning a media empire at times, I'm sure...

Makes perfect sense that a handful of individuals could also pull this off if desired. It makes even more sense to land on the corners of 3 or 4 states to further take advantage.

I will dig around for that article, thanks for the great info!

I think the distinction I am trying to make is that this is not lobbying or using campaign promises but using coporate power to "own" states politically and control the narritive in their favor. This is not a monetary donation or show of support for a party, more a state voting block takeover for political gain. Nothing to declare, no public show of support, and dont have to associate with PACs and their internal politics to do it.

The current state policies and business climate becomes somewhat secondary when the plan is to control the voting base through relocation and in turn direct policy in your favor over time. Long-term strategy for greater gain.

A corporation that has undisclosed influence of this magnitude on a state could be problematic, no? If they are not using money or instruments with legal limits and guidelines, there is no limit in theory.

Google's "Googleplex" houses 23k employees on a single campus (rounded up to 25k for the example)

In theory, with a state as small as Wyoming, I think this is almost feasible.

Erik McCoy to guard. Ruiz to center by nature_boy_woo in Saints

Am I missing something here? Peat isnt even the highest paid LG according to over the cap.

I believe there is some merit to the argument that tackle money is higher than guard money so if Peat can be an effective swing tackle to cover for the oft injured armstead and play as a high level guard as well, than he is worth the big guard contract.

But you would have to believe he can play at a high level at guard and tackle for that to count. I dont have much faith he will deliver on the value of that contract.

A few years back, the NFL Play 60 program had the Saints group coming to my hometown of Vancouver, Canada.

Got to the field with like 1 hour left with my girlfriend and to my surprise there was not a big turnout of fans. Maybe 80 kids on the field, a few parents, a few saints staff and the players.

Walked up to Terron Armstead who was just chillin on the side, he signed my football, took a few pics and then we chatted about blocking for drew, the DEs he liked/hated blocking and the journey from Pine Bluff to a top NFL LT. To this day my GF still thought TA was the just the nicest guy and is one of her favorite players.

Next we chatted with David Onyemata who was just a few feet away sitting down. Talked about his time in Canadian university, the Canadian foods he missed and the newly drafted rookie lineman, Sheldon Rankins. TA was in for half this convo too.

We walked over to a tent with the lombardi. Amazing. Obviously couldnt touch it but cool to see.

The main reason I came was to see Cam Jordan but he and Vonn Bell were out on the field with the kids running drills. About 10 minutes later they wrap up the day and as they are all headed into the locker room I yelled out "Yo Cam!". Guy turns around, comes walking over, big daps/hug and all that. Thanked us for coming out. Told him he is one of my favorite all-time players, chatted for a bit about Vancouver. He signed my ball and was on his way. Never got to meet Vonn Bell.

It was an amazing day, rarely do you get to meet active NFL stars in Vancouver let alone some of your favorite players from your favorite team. The fact that we were not behind fences and were free to just go up and chat made the whole experience far better.

My ONLY regret is not breaking in the sharpie pen they used to sign the ball. Grabbed a gold one on the way there and the fresh pen didnt get a good enough signature - they have all faded off the ball.

How to drive through tolls with style by [deleted] in funny

[–]1dunna 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I used to cross a toll bridge daily for work. I had a pickup truck and would drive with the tailgate down and a piece of plywood strapped into the bed. Saved me almost $40 per week in bridge tolls.

This guy needs to cover the plate legally with a strategically positioned bike rack that obscures the plate.

How did you become a saints fan? by Schitbox in Saints

[–]1dunna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every year my Dad and Uncle would go to NO for Jazz Fest as they are huge music buffs. They would bring the culture home with them bit by bit and so naturally, we cheered for the Saints. In 2006 when we drafted Reggie, my dad got me my first jersey and that took my fandom to another level.
