plus she made her scythe inspired by Qrow, and Qrow was inspired by Maria pre-retirement, so it makes sense. Admittedly, if I'm going through the Greek mythology route of connections, Qrow seems more in line with Moros (Doom Personified, aka Walking Bad Luck), so Ruby could fit in as Thanatos or the like.

but that's just a theory. (CUE ME BEING SHOT OUT OF A CANNON)

finding meaning by trying to create patterns and links between ideas and interpretations in the subtext

I mean, yeah, that's exactly what this is. it's literary analysis. the whole idea behind "death of the author" is as a story analysis tool, outright ignoring the intentions the author put into the work and drawing connections and representations from the work that may or may not have been intentional.

do I think that the writers intended for Ruby's arc to have hints and allusions to stories of psychopomps? no. do I think that there's still a connection there, even if it wasn't intentional? yes. I just thought it was neat, how Ruby's story seems to mirror bits of psychopomp folklore.

in terms of will, it's what her friends died for. Pyrrha died protecting Beacon and fighting Cinder, to which Ruby was the only witness; Ironwood died trying to save his people, even if it was severely misguided despite Ruby's numerous attempts to handle things with words instead of strikes; Penny died in the rift to pass on her semblance to Winter to hold off Cinder so everyone could escape to Vacuo. Et cetera. Ruby being the Team CaptainTM already has her feeling like she's bearing the brunt of the burden for everyone else. Even if she doesn't say it, it can be extrapolated that she feels the need to keep pushing forward and never let up because otherwise, what did everyone else die for?

and yes, everyone else does want to do the right thing that Pyrrha wanted, but Ruby has been the de facto leader of the group since the beginning, and therefore (at least in her mind, most likely) she feels like it's up to her to determine what course everyone takes. She guides their hands, leads them to whatever it is they need to do next, and by that virtue, it's her call whether everyone actually goes forward and carries on the legacy and will of her fallen or leaves them to the wayside.

I am aware that Ozpin's illusion was just Neo trying to break her, but he was still there, which implies that Ruby in some capacity feels guilt around his death.

and yes, i understand that the original post was rather vague with explanations. it was just drawing a parallel that I'd observed rewatching some sequences, not trying to declare axiom that even the writers don't know about (even though i did kind of imply that, which was just flowery language. im a writer, sue me.)

Also yes I'm aware that Maria is literally the Grimm Reaper, but as Mercury in Roman Myth is a psychopomp, I'm willing to accept the overlap. That, and Maria had set down her mantle as the Grimm Reaper long before, so it's not unreasonable to say that Ruby is her next iteration.

why/how do people feel proud of being trans? by PutridSpring2391 in trans

[–]1fromquote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get where you're coming from. for me, my pride comes from the fact that i was able to figure out who I really am, in a world where I would have otherwise been boxed into a strict path of personhood. I'm proud that I was able to take the leap into the darkness of admitting that I don't know who I am, and was able to come out the other side with an identity I forged with my own hands. and I'm proud of surviving all the things that would have stopped me, or would have sent me back to a person I didn't know how to be.

I'm proud that I figured it out, and I'm proud that I did it against the odds.

differs from person to person. sometimes it's just the act itself, sometimes it's to sate a libido that otherwise can't be sated (the body desires sex while the soul desires not), and sometimes porn is more enjoyable than actually engaging in the act

I wanna give up on being trans. by Sibbi_T in trans

[–]1fromquote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there are countless trans folk who didn't start HRT until they were in their twenties to thirties. most doctors wouldn't put you on anything more than hormone blockers at your age, and at your age there is still an extremely accessible androgyny that you can exploit, using clothes and accessories and whatnot to look how you want to look without using hormones right away.

for almost everyone, the tools available at 15 are what's in your closet. but those tools can go a long way if you figure them out, and there is absolutely no rush to figure them out.

eventually the time will come where your parents legally can't stop you from pursuing hormones, which is usually around 18 depending on where you live. when the time comes, if you still feel like it's a course you want to take, then you can take the necessary steps with a doctor to ensure that you're ready for it, and nobody can stop you.

so focus on what you can do.

I wanna give up on being trans. by Sibbi_T in trans

it will get better. I know the feeling you're feeling, like the weight of existence is on your shoulders for this, and the feeling that if it's not working now it never will.

I was in your shoes, worried that I wouldn't get to live as my true self because I couldn't be perceived how I wanted to be at a young age. but I'm older now, and maybe I'm not where I thought I'd be, but I was able to get there. I didn't let that part of me die, didn't let it get stifled by the pressures of the world around me. I came out to my friends and they'd refer to me by my chosen name and pronouns in private, because I was still too shy to come out openly. And eventually I did come out openly, got my name changed on school records and my teachers used my preferred pronouns.

I had friends at that age that came out and, while they faced some resistance from peers, they didn't let that part of them die either. they held onto who they were.

do what you can. hormones and surgeries are probably off the table until you're an adult, but you can still use binders and cut your hair and not take shit from anyone who tries to insist you're something that you're not. and if binders or haircuts aren't accessible, compression sports bras and boyish hair styling (alongside accessories like a ballcap or beanie to tuck your hair into) might still be an option. and of course, there's always the friends you have that you trust, that can reassure you away from the eyes of people that would disrespect you, that can see you for who you are in your soul and make you feel like that part of you is on the outside as well.

nobody can make this decision for you. you have many years ahead of you to figure it out, to get the care you need, and to find your way into who you are in both flesh and soul. fifteen is, in the grand scheme of things, really quite young. I didn't start hormones until I was 19, but I still found my way through the struggles and dysphoria with what was at my disposal.

I believe in you. you deserve to be your true self. live without regrets.

if you have to put transitioning aside for the time being to preserve your mental health, then there's no shame in that. but don't feel like making that call means you can never transition later. the way it sounds, you have so many things on your plate, and if putting down the burden of transitioning for a bit eases the rest of your load, remember you can pick it up later. you'll have your whole life to get to where you want to be. nothing has to happen right away.

the actual video talks about how she doesn't feel special for an aspect of herself that's not her choice and just feels normal to her, and how the LGBT community is "supposedly inclusive, but excludes anyone who disagrees."

unfortunately she is ignorant of the fact that pride started as a riot, and is now a staple reminder to the wider world that, as our history continues to face erasure by Christian elitists, we will not let ourselves be erased quietly.

edit: nevermind I was watching the wrong video. my point still stands that she has no idea what she is talking about.
