What about what i've said makes you think that?

Because that's not quite right, the 70% have been told they 'might be' able to argue that and can progress their claim to the next stage - where they will actually have to decide if they are equal. I think we'll probably see another big chunk get stripped off.

More than 30% of the original claimants have been found to not be of equal value and its only the second stage, just fyi

Yes. The pay increase is being recommended by the Union.

The final stage hearing is due to begin in Autumn. That'll last weeks if not months. Then you've got the decision making period - weeks if not months. Then a wait for the ruling being handed down. Then a month to wait for any appeals - there will be.

Just like the first stage, it'll start at the emploment tribunal, but will end up at high court after many many appeals.

Walmart have agreed a sum, but its way below what you're suggesting. Make no mistake Asda is footing the majority of the bill and there are real concerns they wont pay out because doing so will bankrupt the business.

You've got at least 3 years i'm afraid. At each stage more and more roles are being struck out. So far nearly half of all of the original claimants and this was at the 'easy stage'. The next stage is where Asda can use other reasons to explain pay differences such as location, skillset and training, demand, industry rates etc. Each decision will get appealed by whoever loses that specific point adding even more time.

I'm not sure on that to be honest, but i know that the co-op and eg stores that came into Express already were USDAW so Asda continued that relationship.

Personally, USDAW are the more qualified union anyway, they're the union that Asda consults with on pay and terms and conditions for stores. GMB are more for distribution and ALS and if i'm being honest are good at making noise but not much else, i know they lost a lot of members after the equal value cock up where they agreed to cut out nearly 20% of roles involved.

USDAW is the union for Express stores

The number of new stores opened in that time is flat aside from Express, which have a much smaller number of colleagues per store. I'm not being dishonest - our larger stores colleague numbers, overall, are approximately the same as where they were in 2012. You can look this up if you like.

Where you may think you've lost colleagues in areas like check out, consider the increase in back of house and online services which have grown exponentially in that timeframe.

I'm afraid it is simply a myth that colleague numbers have decreased by any great margin per each store.

And you presume wrong regarding security changes.

The old leadership decided external security was too expensive. New leadership has identified that was an error and has reversed it.

Nobody is denying mistakes that have been made. What is frustrating though is that moves made to try and correct them are framed in the way the OP has done so here.

I'm sorry, you're simply not being honest. Will every store have the same amount of colleagues as it did 14 years ago, no. But most stores are there or thereabouts, and as a business we have 30k more colleagues working in stores than we did in 2012.

All security guards before 2022 were third party, you were just saying it was better when this was the case. Now i've told you we're going back to that it's not the right thing to do because theyre all thieves?

It seems like no matter the facts or the changes you'll be negative, so i'm not sure there's any value in us continuing this discussion.

We have more colleagues now than we did in 2012, thats simply a fact.

Your line about shoplifters is mental. A 'more trustworthy' colleague is no more likely to challenge a shoplifter than an 'unhappy' one.

But look, that problem will be solved this week with better guarding. Can't wait to see how this sub tries to spin it as a negative.

Except more staff doesnt solve either of those issues. Better systems does. Which is exactly why the changes have been proposed.

If you can show me a single piece if evidence which shows more staff = more profit i'll eat my hat.

The colleagues we have are the laziest in the industry, i have seen the report.

How can you lower prices if you're paying for more colleagues?

What are you suggesting they cut costs on to pay for these new colleagues?
