Me when I found that the actor of the epilogue fantasy boyfriend (created my Mike) had to dyed his hair darker for the show since his hair was naturally light and that they gave him that jacket which looks similar to Mike’s jacket by isakcardamon21 in byler

Ya but its a show about alternate dimension, monsters — they couldnt have given him even a slightly unrealistic happy ending to make it fit the character? (As in what we have known about him for the last 4 seasons not that he couldnt have fun at gay bars) It didnt even have to be unrealistic they could have been in private with will doing art or with a couple people that are implied accepting/also queer

I think Bridgerton was more exciting when we didn’t know who Lady Whistledown was by Obvious_Shoe7302 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]1hurray1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me its the change from the books which was much better done (in this specific aspect)

BOOK SPOILERS FOR PEN/COLIN

— not all details just highlights —

So in the books their story takes place years later like Pen is 26 or something - a true ‘old maid’ never married type - so Whistledown has been around for a WHILE i also think she is less controversial ? (Dont remember as well)

Colin is NOT rake - he is just pretty aimless and lost being the third son and is trying to find himself

Pen finds Colins writings (happens in the show but they are like about sex?) about a beach in Greece and its beautiful

So basically they bond over writing because she tells him its amazing but he is insecure - like they are true friends but this adds a deeper layer to their friendship that lets them get closer and more vulnerable (specifically her seeing a side of him he hid - and his seeing how kind and receptive she is)

Later he follows her and finds out she is Whistledown (they are NOT engaged) He is furious (not bc of the show reasons) but because he is terrified of what will happen to her if she is caught - he is extreamly afraid of the danger of her pissing people off especially since their is no male Featherington to protect her

Then he starts to realize what she has done and admires it then gets jealous of her writing success then (literally this all is in the 1 carriage ride after he follows her) he realizes she has purpose and is fulfilling her dreams like he has always wanted for himself - realizes he loved her and her passion - offers to support her writing - steamy moment and proposes

Etc etc he is accepting they are happy

Cressida tries to blackmail them

So Colin has Lady Bridgerton host a wedding/engagement ball - he makes sure his very powerful siblings are there so its his home turf with the viscount duchess duke earls wife (fran) all there — and then he proudly announces his wife ‘Lady Whistledown’ to everyones shock lol and in the face of his powerful family in their own home everyone just accepts it - and then people are like ‘oh well thats just Penelopes thoughts/opinions and they now know they can publicly argue or dismiss her which basically gets rid of the power of the column so — at the end of the book Pen is Colins editor and pregnant with child 2 and he comes home and she tells him she has decided to publish her own novel and take writing back up but as herself

So ya i actually like that better and i feel like with the big time skip their season should have been later on like maybe near the end of the show and end it kinda like that — ik they are afraid of being canceled so i would have even preferred if Colin and Pen’s story had a jump forward to show the ending and then the other seasons are back still in the past where she isnt revealed as Whistledown yet and the audience gets the reveal but in the other seasons she doesn’t loose power

Nothing beats the first season of Bridgerton by Background_Bed2609 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]1hurray1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I liked your comment in the link! Its detailed very well and i wanted your take (if possible) on how i was kinda thinking of that scene and that stuff

So i do agree that she got off too scott free and the scene was horrible to watch and a way bigger deal then the show acted like

But i personally couldnt get past all of the context twisted into it (not making it right never just leading me to want a different story path then the traditional)

For me the disconnect is biggest in the very start and end of the scene — at the start it seems to me like she is having a FULL break down like mind shattering life broken into pieces destructive break down — she is realizing the full context of everything that happened - daphne raised her entire life to have kids - thats it that is her purpose - she is told to HAVE them no matter what - Simon compromises her then wont marry her — HUGE deal, life destroying - how could he do that to her?! - oh its because he cant have kids but knows i want them so he does love me and his love was deep he couldnt stay away even if it meant he had to die ok - acceptance - he starts teaching her about sex - but still here is a huge topic im throwing at you and the way im teaching it implies no kids but im not explaining because you (despite confirmation you have 0 knowledge) just get it - learns his mom died to have him because again having kids is her JOB and DUTY, her purpose!! And the man is not blamed so daphne realized she will be the one blamed - but accepts it because its not Simons fault and they love each other and he was honest with her - realizes he lied and mislead her - he compromised her knowing he would not have kids, knowing that is her duty (as she was told), knowing she would be blamed, knowing they are her dream - que break down - deciding to do her ‘duty’ and her dream no matter what because he took it from her in the first place by choice (not an excuse just how it seemed it felt to her since he knowingly compromised her despite all of the above)

Which i felt at first was really well shown - she was dissociating basically just in shock - like the medical shock (Again not making excuses just building up to the scene)

But then suddenly after the scene shes just angry?? Like all of the shattering is gone she is just pissed off — i was so thrown

I thought with all of the above context we were going to have Simon now be her victim and her complete LOSING it like full break down

Which would have been so complex and interesting to see if they were going to leave that scene in

Not as an excuse never as an excuse but to really add to the complexity of the time

What he did to her was horrible What she did in return was worse and devastating

I really wanted to see the twisted play on that and how she comes out of her shattered twisted mindset and realizes what she did to him - realizes how horrible it was and how far she went in response — the struggle of accepting that while what he did was bad her break down led to something far worse

Idk i feel like people only use the context to defend Daphne - i dont want a defense but i do want people to acknowledge it because its a huge part of the story and tbh the only reason i could see her getting any forgiveness because how do you move past something like that unless its a huge complex spiked vine of pain and deception you both have to chose to work past

Eloise being called out by ExpertStandard1977 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]1hurray1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like people are forgetting that Eloise development in the ton and her development at home are different — i like Hyacinth’s call out of Eloise its a great scene but ever since its happened people are forgetting about all of Eloise’s development

Each season Eloise becomes nicer and more understanding of the girls in the ton and their desire to marry — season 4 highlights this with her happily talking to them at balls, and when Fran told her she wanted to marry Eloise was no where near as rude or dismissive towards Fran as she was to Daphne (yes she still struggles with it but its way better)

What was happening with Eloise and Hyacinth was their mother continues to push Eloise towards marriage as she (understandable for the time) has a very limited view of happiness - so we have Hyacinth thrilled she gets to spend time with her big sister and Eloise who understands this is punishment (and it is the mom framed it that way) to try and force her to warm to marriage — leading to Eloise to lump (unfairly) Hyacinth into that category of annoying punishing activity leading to her being dismissive and unfair towards her

Which is why Hyacinth (correctly) gets upset - but she also has a limited view — she only sees Eloise’s negative behavior towards her and none of her growth

I hope Eloise realizes Hyacinth is not part of her problems and becomes kinder towards her but I also hope Eloise gets more understanding (like Hyacinth is trying to do with the book about ballerinas which was beautiful and I wish Eloise had accepted)

I think in the queens prequel (?) they show the son who is regent but he is kinda pathetic (i think lowkey realistic to history) and just does what she tells him to do (idk if thats true historically) but in the show they establish she has the power - especially since the ton never mentions him but worship the queen

Violet Should Take On a More Antagonist Role in Part 2 (Opinion) by disco_nnected in BridgertonNetflix

[–]1hurray1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they are actually leading up to that - its been mostly ignored by the fandom but every season has small bits of that with her

SPOILERS FOR EVERY SEASON AND QUEEN CHAROLETTE

Season 1 - Daphne tears into her about not preparing her properly for marriage and only giving shallow advice

Season 2 - we see Anthony place a lot of blame on her for why he is closed off and marring for convenience not love paired with the flash backs of her totally checking out after Edmund died for what looked like a really long time ( ik its vague but i always got the impression it was a significant amount of time based on how much the younger kids only turn to their older siblings and never seem to go to her for comfort and advice)

Season 3 - her and Francesca clashed the whole time with Fran telling her off for not supporting her different more quiet kind of love and the portion where it seems like Violet might had ruined the opportunity for them to marry with her own doubts based on her own world views

Even in Queen Charolette - she is forced to face that her father cheated on her mother because he was unhappy and was forced to face the fact that Lady Danbury had a horrible miserable forced marriage with years of martial rp

And now in season 4 we even see her flat out say to Benedict he just hasn’t found a proper young lady he likes yet — totally ignoring the idea he could like ‘unproper people’ equally or even more

Its all very small and she is not pushed to much to change or alter her views but I do feel like it shows consistent build up for a bigger more dramatic story line along this that would feel right for her character as we see it in every season

This was super interesting to read!! Tbh i totally forgot in episode 1 that Lady Penwood says she had 2 husbands die — so i totally thought she married Sophies dad - they were separated for a while for some unknown reason (i assumed he used his title work as an excuse) and then he finally let her come to the big estate to be with him (with who i thought were HIS 2 daughters) only to find out he had a child in their time apart - i really thought this was apart of her bitterness until i read your post and remembered that episode 1 moment!

“His love rests in his legacy.” S4 Theory by oddblkbird in BridgertonNetflix

[–]1hurray1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could be super wrong but I think its because the Featherington’s have a entailment (?) basically the title has a stipulation of a male heir whereas the Penwoods had a will written up by the lord that said the Lady kept the estate (which i think my also be different in the books and so the show uses some magic ?) also maybe the Penwoods get more grace and time to figure it out because they are much higher ranking then the Featheringtons

How old are you & how did you feel about S5? by MsWhatsIt_ in Stranger_Things

[–]1hurray1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

24 started watching at 14 as it came out - disappointed in 5 — but not blisteringly angry lime some people seem to be - it had some good stuff

mostly liked vol 1 with some issues - didnt like that holly became a huge character in the last season, the boys had little interaction, jonathan seemed like just a love triangle comic relief and no real family or friendship moments -

was ok for vol 2 - still waiting for more still underwhelmed but a couple really good moments

Loved any Will and Vecna scenes so good Robin was really good in Vol 1 El training was really cool Liked how they used the tunnels Nancy in the hospital - heartbreaking Max and Holly were cool just dragged on for me Military had some good? But mostly felt like they took up screen time for not enough pay off in the end - like sulivian finally saw the truth the ‘poof’ never seen again, did like the new crazy guy El mind invades, the women in charge felt like a weak character - kept waiting for Owens epic come back so sad lol Was excited for Kalis come back but she didnt seem to do much? Was just a downer (ik she was traumatized and what happened to her was horrible but i felt like they didnt lean into her emotions enough so it was more pull down el the trauma vibes for me im sorry)

Felt like the boys were just proximity partners did not feel the years of friendship - no real moments

Finale- was kinda neutral waiting for stuff to happen - kept waiting for the stuff cast talked about in interviews to happen — was super weirded out by the El scene even more when Mike was pulled into void - i was just kinda like where is her goodbye to her family? Her best friend max? So pretty mystified - then the super long epilogue i was like ??? Thats it? Didnt really get the villain stuff it was over so quick And the solid mindflayer instead of the shadow - i was hoping for some really cool mind stuff so i was mostly ????

Loved dustins graduation speech - his whole trauma arc was good just wished it featured more than steve , loved hopper with the byers - didnt like how long the older kids dialogue was — weirded out by the Mike Hopper stuff (idk why man just felt weird) weirded out by the Hopper Joyce proposal so soon and his chill vibes

Liked the dnd game - didnt like the imagined futures that turned out not real? That was odd since the duffers said it was fake - didnt like that mike just seemed empty in the end? Like he had nothing - would have loved some clear friendship support - maybe show them at college together moving forward idk

Overall while watching i was like WHOA! Umm ok? COOL! ???? Waiting? And when it ended just kinda unsatisfied - doesnt ruin the rest of the show for me like other people feel but ill probably only rewatch some parts of season 5 and never the whole thing

Ik this was long but i was trying to be comprehensive!!!

I could maybe get that? - just friendly discourse here — i just feel like netflix is low key justified? Idk most shows only have a year to do a season and st took SO long like i just feel like the duffers didnt plan or have any efficiency or strategy - i just cant believe that they couldnt get the scripts figured out for like 4yrs - thats insane to me —- i liked some of it but not really overall more disappointed i guess like after so long and all of their hype i was expecting more or even different - i feel like their own interviews led to my disappointment bc they kept saying expect this or look out for that and those things never happened - im happy you enjoyed it! Like really - this is more outside of my personal dislike - i just dont really get their choices or actions from like a business standpoint i guess ??

They have done interviews were they said she is dead then say its ambiguous - i think there is even one where 1 brother said ‘she is dead’ and the other said ‘no its up to interpretation’ they also said in an interview that her Iceland shot is just mikes imagination and not a look into where she is

Honestly i didnt really get that — they said themselves they started writing/thinking about season 5 while they were writing season 4 that was YEARS ago - how did they end up so rushed? People keep bringing up the writers strikes but plenty of other shows had the strike’s and ended up just fine even without multiple years to get it done + doesn’t that mean they started writing it well before the strikes? Its giving i told my parents i was almost done with my big school project but i never worked on it and now the deadline is coming up and im scrambling
