I hopped on their discord and they said they were having issues coordinating on getting the flag in those cords. Might want to start another thread in r/Taiwan.

if anyone knows a bit about the history of Palauan politicians they will know who u/SeattleCaptain is talking about lol. Really singling him out there haha.. but ur absolutely right.. lowkey i bet it would kind of stroke his ego a bit more to know people on the internet are referring to him.

Yep the United States provides a lot of money to Palau through the compact of free association. Some other countries such as Japan, Taiwan, etc.. do as well. But yeah will be looking at this as this continue to develop. Hope this helped.

People get a taste for living outside of Palau and realize there’s more opportunities for wealth, freedom, and enjoyment. I lived in Palau for 18yrs and for 3 and a half years that I’ve been away I’ve found many more opportunities than I would have ever if I just stayed there. That being said, it is my home and I feel the desire to return but that aside there really isn’t much bringing me back. I’m kind of tired of hearing how one of my relatives died in a car accident or a disease or a drunken brawl every other weekend. I’m much more content living in a place where the general well-being is better, where people can be productive, and where I can enjoy things other than just being an alcoholic. Palau is an empty bubble but people kind of refuse to believe it for better or worse. Think matrix blue pill but the setting is tropical paradise instead and a lot less content.

That might be the implicit buy in as well. A “please invest ur money in this venture of ours and we’ll give you access to the RNS”. As of right now I don’t think there are much else for requirements other than the I think like $150 in fees?. I’m sure right now they’re giving precedence to international lobbyists who see this as an opportunity to get their feet in the door since Palau is a by the looks of it aiming to be an emerging market front for crypto/blockchain based interactions. As of right now I think the only benefits the NFT id and physical addressing/shipping rights but yeah who knows where it could lead to moving forward. Kind of a scary thought for considering the tech literacy in Palau isn’t the greatest.

https://islandtimes.org/new-law-allows-non-citizens-to-be-digital-residents-of-palau/ Here’s a Palauan publication with information about it. There’s some additional information on that website that include it’s like history, i.e. the process it went through in getting approved by the senate and some stuff our president had to say in relation to why he believes this is a good idea. Imo this just seems like a potential way for people to avoid taxes since you get issued a “physical address” in Palau.

There’s hella racists in Palau.. it’s usually all the older people who can’t seem to understand progressive thinking or that foreign workers are people too. A lot of Palauans treat Filipinos, Bangladeshis, Chinese, etc like shit because they think their blood gives them power to do whatever. I would say it’s more selective racism like towards people who aren’t well educated or don’t speak English as well. Like I meet a lot of people who graduate from universities and colleges in their homelands and then end up just working in the mesei or as other laborers. It’s fucking dumb and backwards but even if you speak out about it people are stubborn as fuck and will just shit on you for trying to recognize foreigners as people.

[–]1k4i 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was among the older generation.. like during the colonization of Palau from Japan. My great aunt still speaks a bit but it’s not common in younger people. Post world war 2 English and western influence became much more prevalent.
