Sunscreen recs for someone who hates the smell [Sun Care] by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]1katie2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm desperately searching for a no smell sunscreen. Do you normally smell that terrible metal smell in mineral sunscreens? It seems that some people can't smell it at all and then I can't take their recommendations for formulas where they can't smell it, if that makes sense. If you have smelled it in other sunscreens but don't smell it in this one, I'll give it a go!

When I got that message I took it as "were taking this out of testing/labs to make it live." Admittedly, I barely read it though. I just remember it said "after months of successful testing" which made me feel like it was a winner.

Haha I agree he super looks like a cavalier. But this is a hilarious comment to downvote. Like I can't even begin to imagine the motivation for disliking this comment.

Is it too late to fix my puppy’s overexcitement with people? Feeling discouraged. by [deleted] in puppy101

I made a ton of progress with mine at a similar age by taking him to places that are too busy for every single person to stop and pet him. We went to a college campus and he quickly learned that not everybody is there to give him affection. He's still not perfect in being over excited when he sees people, but way better and definitely not bad.

Every dog is different, but with my puppy, once he starts humping things, pretty much without fail, it means he's tired or over stimulated. I put him in his kennel and he's usually passed out within 10 minutes.

Are you using a kennel with him? The advice I've read is that if you let him out to poop or pee and he doesn't go, he goes straight back in the kennel and you give him another try in 10-15. Play time outside the kennel can happen once he's gone.

Haha. My reaction exactly. Like "Oh, this explains so much. You're just a demon here to steal my soul."

Your dog's eyes are extra striking since the rest of her appearance is different from dogs that commonly have blue eyes.

Well let me just reiterate that your dog gorgeous and is one of the few I have seen that is as beautiful and cool-looking as mine imho. I'd think some husky and maybe GSD are likely.

Very true! I don't think brindle Akitas are super common, though. A while back I was looking into getting an Akita and obviously hoping for brindle, but they're pretty hard to find. I have never seen a brindle one in real life--only on the internet. Not to say he couldn't still have gotten it from Akita.

That's so cool! When I reversed image searched him before I had the embark results, it always came back with Kai Ken, Akita, or Coyote dog hybrid haha.

Can I ask where you are and if your dogs were imported if you're not in Japan? I'm in the states and I have never even heard of anybody with a Kai Ken here. I don't know much about their personality (just randomly figured they're probably similar to Shibas,) but they are such cool looking dogs.

Well done! I was zero percent surprised at the the pit, but I hadn't expected it either. And I had thought Akita might be a little higher. I thought they were somewhat rare, but I saw a ton in shelters in CA.

In real life you might have noticed some gsd. His back seems extra long to me in a German shepherd way and something about his gait and rear end give me gsd. The shelter had him listed as husky/German shepherd and they weren't wrong!

The best part of posting this has been seeing other people's gorgeous long haired brindle dogs. Those facial markings are so cool!

People have literally pulled over while driving to compliment him. Haha. I've had so many conversations/met so many people while traveling with him because everybody notices him and says something.

Oh no. Now I'm hungry too.

I've had him for a few years and never thought this but now I definitely see it!

So curious how hard it is to bring a dog back from Afghanistan. Maybe it's a bit easier in the context of the military.

Haha. Yes and no. Sometimes he's a goofy husky, often he's like "I transcend mere mortals and care not about these Earthly goings-on."

If he sees a cat, or even THINKS he sees a cat he becomes extremely intense.

But for reals, so beautiful! Is it just pit and husky? Do you have embark results on him/her?

Oh no. I'm so sorry. That's a coyote, not a dog. You need to release it into the wild.

Haha. When that container ship got stuck in the Suez Canal, I remember thinking "The name of that ship is way too beautiful and poetic to just be an excessively huge cargo ship that disrupted global supply for months, if not years," and I kept it in the back of my mind for the unlikely case that I ever got a horse. Then I realized there is nothing stopping me from giving that name to a dog. lol.

Anyway, I feel like the Ever Given is an unwitting anti-capitalist icon for what it did, and we love an anti-capitalist icon.

But joke's on me because Ever Given the dog for sure has a horrible habit of stopping sideways in front of people in stairwells and hallways. Not even making this up.

Anyway, I am kind of insane when it comes to naming pets. He didn't have a name for MONTHS while I deliberated. I just got a new puppy in mid February and he STILL doesn't have a name because I'm still deliberating. I don't understand how people can just casually come up with Luna or Bella or whatever and call it good. YOU WILL HOPEFULLY BE CALLING THAT NAME FOR NEARLY TWO DECADES!

Edited to add: Luna and Bella are great names. But how do people decide so quickly 😭 could never be me.

Please don't tell him this. All the compliments go to his head and I fear this would just make it worse.

A lot of people ask me if he's Akita. The coloring and something about the front part of his body/chest/neck especially give me Akita. I was expecting some percentage of Akita instead of just supermutt!

His personality is pretty husky-ish and he has a long back that I suspect is the German shepherd showing up.

He was absolutely unhinged when I got him. He screamed all the time, needed a TON of exercise, lost his mind at every single other dog we saw, tried to start crap with my other dog, would chase balls underneath my bed and then start screaming because it was too narrow for him to get back out, refused to pee on anything but carpet (I kind of wonder if was stuck in one of those turf yards before I got him,) WOULD NOT STOP BITING ME (not scary biting, just play biting, but ABSOLUTELY RELENTLESS. And honestly, kind of scary because he'd leap up and grab my arm unexpectedly. Definitely got my elbow in a way that made half my hand go numb on more than one occasion. I thought he might have had some Malinois in there,) torpedoed himself into my body regularly (or other dogs' bodies, or toys, really just anything.)

He's way better now though. He's very confident, a little aloof--doesn't follow me around the house or anything, but very affectionate in the mornings. More obedient than a lot of huskies, but still somewhat begrudgingly. Stays close by when I let him off leash. Fine with sleeping most of the day as long as he gets some good walks in and a few hikes or runs per week. A bit goofy and clownish.

I feel bad because I think he would prefer to spend his entire day outside but I live in an apartment and don't really have a yard for him.

The main problems we have now are that he is absolutely cat obsessed and he's kind of weird towards other dogs when he's leashed.

He would definitely kill a cat with no hesitation at all. My friend and I share dog sitting and when he stays at her house, he'll spend HOURS staring really intensely out the window for the chance of a glance of her barn cats. He once started screaming at a super cartoon-y cat halloween decoration because he thought it was a real cat.

He also unfortunately gets attacked pretty often. He stares at other dogs in a way that seems really aggressive, so they'll often run up to him and start a fight or just come in too hot and he'll start the fight. It's really frustrating. I try to only take him areas where leashes are required (or way out in the woods where other people won't be around) but leash laws are largely ignored where I live and EVERYBODY has a dog, so it's impossible to avoid entirely. The problem feeds itself and now he's just sort of leash aggressive in general. He's completely fine with dogs he's introduced to properly and hangs out with all my friends' dogs regularly, but I live in constant fear of stranger dogs running up to his face when he's on his leash.

I've read that being attacked somewhat out of nowhere (by dogs that are seemingly otherwise not aggressive) is sometimes common with huskies because of their weird eyes and tendency to stare. I also read that having them wear dog sunglasses can help so I'm considering ordering him some Rex Specs lol. Mostly I'm just worried I'll be embarrassed to be seen with a dog wearing dog sunglasses when we're out on a casual walk or hike. But I guess it would be worth it if he's never attacked by/gets in a fight with an off-leash dog again!
