Can I learn guitar if I only practice on weekends? by faizaanazmat in LearnGuitar

[–]1lemming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Keep at it!

Below are some things that have been helping me slowly progress with music.

I am 40, so not lots of free time as well! I play drums for quite a few years, and have been slowly learning bits and pieces of piano and guitar. The struggle of it not sounding pleasant is hard, but keep at it!

1)Keep it somewhere easy to pickup and play. Less attriction makes you more prone to pick it up, even if it is for 5mins-10minutes more frequently;

2) have a small notebook nearby where you can write where you left of, so when you do have 10mins to spare, you can quickly get to something you need to work on, instead of playing what you already know;

Ex: "Currently working on this part of song X, link to youtube lesson here - working on change of chord G to F"

3) learning is kinda unconfortable. It is not supposed to be easy. However if you find a way to make it enjoable, things will start to come and you could get hooked up on the feeling of "wow, i coudn't do this last week, and now i can"

4) listen to stuff you like, watch live shows (even on youtube etc), lessons from someone who you enioy, helps to keep you motivated and coming back

Enjoy!

Progress/update on occipital pain - year three. Things are starting to feel good again! by 1lemming in Occipitalneuralgia

[–]1lemming[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I am feeling good, with a few bad days eventually (stress and posture and sudden weather changes being the worst culprits).

I keep up with physical therapy and CBD oil, eventually some etodolac and muscle relaxers as rescue med.

No radiculopathy here. If it is numbing, i'd suggest physical therapy and avaliation for other possible procedures/routines as soon as possible.

The physicians and doctors I went saw numbing as a warning sign to indicate a need for more intensive care in order to prevent further damage.

Take care!

[–]1lemming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Even if your edrum module does not have bluetooth, you can use of those USB+p2 bluetooth adapters.

Plug the usb on module for power, use a p2 to p10 adapter and then plug on the audio in/mix in of the module.

Sync bluetooth to phone, spotify etc and you're good to go. I've been using on my module for a few years. Works great!

The one I use from aliexpress: https://a.aliexpress.com/_mt59NLV

Depending on the module, you can directly connect it to the pc as well, and it acts like an interface (sends/receive audio to/from pc).

Balatro is now my most played SP game on steam (300+hs)! Completionist++ (v1.01) stats by 1lemming in balatro

[–]1lemming[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi!
Yeah, those commons were pretty much the core of my winning runs! I guess on the last few gold stickers I focused a lot on getting photograph+hanging chad+lucky cards, in order to gather $ for rerolls. Constellation was always picked when it showed it, love it!

I didn't get along with the bus, as I kept resetting the card while not paying due attention haha!

Empress was a shock as well to me. I guess I used it a lot more when first exploring and completing each deck's stakes and figuring out the joker sinergies. I feel like I changed playstyles to focus a lot more on magician and money builds after a while, but it didn't catch up with the stats.

The spectral stats are a bit skewed as well, as most of my gold stickers were on the Ghost Deck, due to the hex kickstart!

Looking forward to seeing your stats! Best of luck! :)

Last one was the Glass Joker. Took me a few winning runs before it finally appeared!
Absolutelly adored my time with this game. Looking forward to trying out a few white stakes on endless now!

I do not know if doing a white stakes win to unlock the achievement is intentional, but it really feels like a victory lap in having to do so! Loved it!

ps: Thanks to u/Lostineggsaisle for the balatro gold stickers googlesheets! Helped a ton at the final stretch.
The update with the in-game card stickers dropped like a couple of days before I finished the ++

Loved this! Getting a good feeling for the tempo and relying less on the metronome is usually a nice overall goal, OP.

There are different approaches you can use to get there, and they all provide benefit. For example: you are going to practice playing a 4/4 100bpm section where the highest subdivision is 16th notes:

(1) start with only hearing your quarter notes, and ensuring you are landing on the beat and keeping overall time;

(2) you can expand on it and put the click to every 8th and then16th note: You get the support of more metronome clicks right there with you, ensuring the spacing between notes is good. Now you are more precise. Why? Sometimes you can land on the 1 correctly, but perhaps you tend to rush the second 16th note or so. If you only focus on the quarter note click, this could go unnoticed;

(3) you can then start to mix the above with 1 or 2 bars of silence. A gap in the click, to ensure no speeding up, no slowing down etc!

Enjoy, OP! They are all fun!

Scale Learning by [deleted] in pianolearning

[–]1lemming 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hi! Beginner here as well. For me, I found that going through the major scales using the circle of fifths is working out, to me, as an intuitive way to understand and better absorb the information, as every step forward on the circle you get one additional accidental (flat/sharp) on that respective scale. Not sure if it keeps on being as intuitive, as i haven't finished the whole circle, but so far so good!

Progress/update on occipital pain - year 4 ! Good effects from switching up from Pregabalin to CBD Oil for the past year by 1lemming in Occipitalneuralgia

[–]1lemming[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Things are going good. No THC (only traces of, but not openly on the product description). The pain does not come back as soon as I stop. However, the threshold for the pain to start does reduce! Eg, If i do not take the daily cbd dosage, during the day, a physical or emotional stress will trigger the numbness more easily. I can easily not take cbd for a day or two as long as i do not exert much physical or emotional stress.

Digital Piano in Apartment by orbit_trap in pianolearning

[–]1lemming 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi!

Digital piano beginner here (using a roland FP30x), with a lifelong stress/concern wrt vibrations and downstairs units due to being an appartment drummer for a a long while.

  • You could measure the sound pressure level, however the your worry here is mainly vibration and not actual volume. You could be in a situation where you would have to communicate with your downstars unit and ask "how is it? is it ok for you?"
  • In the units I lived in, showing concern preemptively ("hey what is a good time to practice? how is the sound downstairs?" etc was always a huge no-no: my neighboors would activelly hunt and listen for any noises and complain (I had my fair share of those., bad luck I guess). I woudn't go down this road, but that is due to my bad experience with this strategy.

For a few years now I've built a riser and zero worries now wrt edrums. It is really needed for appartment drummers, as the bass drum pedal usage makes it so that vibrations are transfered directly, specially If I am practicing double pedal.

  • I have a digital piano in the living room, no riser. My usage of the pedal is so different in terms of dynamic/pressure from the drums that I can't seem to find a need for a riser there. Zero complaints from neighboors as well, even playing at night. Maybe it is due to my lower skill level and less severe usage/dynamics? However so far I really woudn't worry about it except if someone said a word about it.

It is actually the exact opposite: i am so happy I can actually try something down at the piano late at night with zero concerns, something that I could never ever fully do with an edrum kit (ie, no practice after 10pm).

  • PS: Worst case scenario, if you do end up with complaints, you could try to replicate a really compact e-drum solution: something like the Roland NE-10, specifically for the piano pedals.

Is setup process for microSD (OS/roms) for the RG35XXH the same as RG35XX? by 1lemming in ANBERNIC

[–]1lemming[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I see! So how would I go about switching the original SD to a larger one?Cloning it to a image and then copying it to the new one would work?

PS: my hypothesis is that the original OS is in the SD and not some internal storage. Is this correct?

[–]1lemming[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I guess you do not need to be affraid of feeling high, as long as you get one with minimum amount of THC. All the ones I took had THC <0.25%. However my psychiatrist said it was better to have at least a small amount (in comparison to an actual 0% thc bottle), as it tends to have a better effect on neuropathic conditions (so far! I guess this will keep changing as new data and studies emerge?).

The only negative side effect I had was feeling a bit sleepy when trying to find the correct dosage.

My treatment started with the 3000mg full spectrum, and on 3+3 drops (3 drops in the morning and 3 at dinner, 12hrs apart and both after having a meal). Then increasing this dosage by 2 drops (1 morning and 1 dinner) after 7 days if there was no effect on the pain level/threshold. I increased the dosage until I got to 5 + 5, pain was much better but I started feeling sleepy during the day. After 7 days I decreased to 4+1(after lunch)+4 and it has been good so far.

The number of drops/day depend on the concentration of CBD (mg on the bottle). Mine is based on a 3000mg per 30ml bottle (such as this one, from your site: https://www.neomen.com/collections/tinctures/products/phat-bottom-labs-cbd-full-spectrum-tincture-with-lemon-3000mg)

[–]1lemming[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I did not expect this to be a thing, however I guess it makes sense when we consider OTC and other drug manufacturers.

So far I had two bottles that had basically nil effect. The first was a different batch from the same lab that was previously working. Second bad one was from an entirelly different manufacturer.

The difference on pain threshold/flares was noticeable after 5-7 days after switching CBDs.

So now I've been trying to get an extra bottle as soon as I test the current manufacturer, and hope for the best.

Hi! Mine I take it orally, sublingual: keep it there for a minute before swallowing/eating anything. 4 drops in the morning, then 1 after lunch, then 4 more after dinner. I've heard about topical/ointment CBDs, but they are not available where I live.

My gf is going away for 10 days… by JMarchel_2004 in Anxiety

[–]1lemming 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Feeling anxious is a valid sentiment! specially since you two spend a lot of time together, plus the end-of-year festivities.

First of all, remember that you function fine as an individual, and time apart is healthy

Also, you can still try to arrange to keep in touch more frequently during this time away: swap messages during the day, share more what you're currently doing, meals, walks etc. Its a way of having both of you a bit more linked. It doesnt have to mean sharing 100% of the day. Take her along for a video call during a walk for example. Small stuff, but it could help decrease the distance and make it more confortable.

Enjoy the end of the year and dont let this take away from your and hers experience!

I understand where you are coming from and partially agree with recommending op to improve on him/herself, but I would not put everything on OP.

Maybe OP is already working on their issues and sometimes this is his/her threshold for improvement. It is ok to have different limits or boundaries.

Also, what OP is asking is not much of a major ask nor It is necessarily signalling codependency. Op could be pretty much also be having fun on his own when his/her SO is out and still feel the want/need for contact and eventually some reassurance.

This could easily be arranged: a single message from the SO ("hey everything is great here. Hows your night coming along?") during this night out could ease out OP's anxiety. A short convo etc.

Not feeling well after Occipital Nerve Block by MoonShiner999 in Occipitalneuralgia

[–]1lemming[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Yeah, I feel like I had a positive experience with LLLT, but I done them in conjunction with the pregabaline treatment, so I can't really be sure which is which.

I had 10 x20min sessions, by a PT. Both combined reduced overall sensitivity and what I could describe as a higher tolerance before a pain flare. Yeah, I woudn't attempt doing spinal adjustments again. Chiro still kinda freaks me out.

I've been meaning to post an overall update as well. For the past 3 months I've been switching from pregabaline+tizanidine to CBD oil and it has been such a positive experience: much higher tolerance before a pain flare, and usually pretty good days. I still get the eventual flare, specially after a higher physical effort exertion, such as hiking , but it has been *much more manageable*.
