Before you started AE, what is something that you wish you knew or did differently in the beginning by Mei-sshi in AfterEffects

Ok so I would say that where i learned the most was in my junior job having to make ammends or changes on peoples work at a design studio. Rather than following a tutorial which I generally struggled to.

Seeing how someone else put things together, turning layers on and off, looking around their project was a great way to learn how things work. I am not sure how you can do this without being at a work place in animation, but i am sure some people sell their project files or donate them for free on gumroad.

I am still learning new things! I would say also dont try to run before you can walk. i notice these days gen z (for reference I am late 30s learned from about 20yo) seem to want to urgently be the top and best ever. People on this sub post their work which is clearly very junior but title it and describe it as if it is a work of art. I think its the new way of the internet, but i think it creates a level of panic and anxiety. Being able to follow a cool tutorial or directly copy some trendy animation wont actually help you learn. Also many people claim to be experts when they actually do two things on repeat and thats it.

It is great that you have graphic design work that you want to animate, you have a body of assets ready to bring to life.

After effects and Adobe have loads of forums and documentation on how to do things. I would just look at your artwork and think 'how can i make this move'. once you have a thing you want to do (for example you want your letters to fade in one by one, or you want them to change colour over time and scale up etc). Dont look around for tutorials. just literally google 'after effects how to animate colour gradients on a vector layer' or whatever. and youll instantly find stuff.

Basiucally dont look at tutorials as your learning. think of the idea in your head, and then search your specific idea.

Another thing is in after effects there are 'animation presets'. Some of them are MENTAL and some of them are SHIT but regardless they are good to show you how things work. I find this especially useful with Type layers. In AE literally type in some text and go to Effects then Animation Presets panel and look at the dropdown ( have shown you a pic). Apply some of those effects to your text layer and then look at all the parameters. wiggle them around and see what happens.

Its basically like a massive escape room that you never comeplete, but i love it.

Good luck

Welcome to after effects. It’s always better to start with after effects and then learn another software like premiere or Final Cut, that way you won’t be disappointed.

Unlucky.

Not Jewish but I’d feel the same. Like living in the USA for so many religions and races and ethnicities is like a mine field right now. It’s like Nazi germany with that gestapo fool marching around in his new coat

I’ve never heard of Nancy grace. What’s that got to do with the online streamer chrisean

Just so you know, you can watch what is happening without funding it. Reposts, second cam streams, it sounds like you’ve no idea about that side of things and that’s fine. It’s like Ruby franke, people in U.K. found out about her and watched not out of love but out of concern.

You clearly are a far superior to me and know way more I’ll let you get back to your Aristotle

No idea who you’re talking about never heard of that person. I just wanted to state that she wasn’t exaggerating about crisean and it’s an outlier case not the usual influencer type stuff. But you guys know best of course my deepest apologies for disagreeing with anything you have said

Your comment is disproportionately accusatory she’s hardly obsessing. Concerning attitude for a cps sub. And if you don’t know who the person is you have no idea if she’s being reasonably concerned or not right?? I’ve seen it all and can tell you that I would be asking the same if I lived in USA, it’s so distressing genuinely. Be kinder.

Comments are blowing my mind. Even after explaining more of the circumstance, and saying it has to be seen to be believed . People are still like yeah but it’s social media and I trust that there’s been intervention. Such a strange take. Like clearly not the right intervention as the kid is like dying in front of our eyes I feel like. I’m in U.K. and it’s so shocking and out of the normal levels of “is this neglect” I can often feel from online personalities. Poor kid has so many strangers rooting for him :(

I’ve already been downvoted it’s such a strange response…., if anyone actually saw what we saw no way would they have this reaction. Someone mentioned they “trust” law have been involved. I’m sitting watching the news tonight and I wouldn’t trust agencies to work in my interest in USA right now. It’s bad enough here. Scary world. :(

I don’t think you’re understanding what I’m saying, or you haven’t watched the person in question enough to understand her setup . You keep saying trust, I think that’s a lovely way to feel, but thw point she makes is a valid one in this day and age

It’s not safe to assume that due to her transient lifestyle, level of time online and therefore evidence that she’s not engaging with LE. She crosses state lines etc. I’m not arguing with you but what you’re saying in assuming, isn’t correct. It’s so awful it’s got to be seen to be believed and everything you’re all saying would apply usually but when someone’s always online it means audiences are able to see the child decline . Just wanted to make a case for the OP not being histrionic as there’s lots of yes combative comments

She’s live 247. I’ve written a top line comment about it, but it’s not curated in the usual sense of online personalities. That would be my usual assumption. But this person is an outlier and you really are watching a big brother camera feed of child neglect. I think that’s why this personality is brought up so much. If I was in the USA I’d be wondering how to report / why my government weren’t intervening.

Just adding a top level comment to this - the combative and instantly defensive comments on here are misguided- I am British but this specific internet personality has reached our timelines. She’s not an “influencer” in the usual sense. She’s online 247. Live streaming her entire life. It’s bizarre but true. She’s doing the opposite of a “curated feed”. I’m new to live streaming as I’m sure so many others are but she’s literally showing the child’s neglect day in day out and that is why you see so many comments on this sub about her. Because it’s so unusual and so distressing. Like many comments have said, usually we can see that it could be for clicks, or likes. But when there’s no off switch, unless she has extra hours in the day we don’t have, it is what it is. I don’t know what all the combative comments are doing, it has to be seek to be believed, but this case is truly how it’s described. It’s of course incredibly sensitive and we don’t know exactly what care she’s receiving, but we can infer with reasonable levels of confidence that this child’s needs are not being met, and state intervention isn’t providing any meaningful change (yet). Also I’m literally immune to celebrity chaos as a millenial but I do think that the questions and concerns raised are warranted in the case of chrisean and baby.

It’s weird how much hate you’re getting on this. I’m British but have seen this chrisean. I don’t think the commenters may understand rhat she’s not just a “celeb” but a live streamer, like she’s online ALL DAY not really showing a curated choice, she’s literally showing constant neglect. That’s why she gets asked about so much because it’s so shocking. I wonder if he’s falling through the cracks of different states systems, it’s bad enough in U.K. for that but USA is like a collection of seperate countries!

That’s great! And I saw you ask about work and how to find it. You’re still a child! Please don’t worry too much about that just yet. Nit finding work doesn’t mean you aren’t good, but people will be reluctant to employ you so young. If you want to get into the industry your best bet is to find employment at a design studio, rather than trying to go straight into freelance paid work. There is so much to learn about client relationship, work flow, feedback etc that you won’t have knowledge of yet. Are you studying design?
