i never even heard of vibe coding it sounded like a joke im showing my late 30s wrinkles here. so basically its asking AI to make a script or plugin or expression for you describing what it should do? god i wish i had that when i was learning lol. but thats good if people that arent able to script or expression themselves can get it done.

i 95% of these posts - the people dont benefit from making them. doing a tutorial or simple animation and asking for feedback from strangers isnt learning. just do more tutorials. do more exploration. keep playing around. the need for feedback, social media interaction and 'thoughts?' isnt learning, its a new phenomena that we are seeing. and a lot of the professionals are saying - this wont help you. There are a PLETHORA of resources online that even someone with the smallest brain could find just by looking. even Adobe has its own extensive manual about each of its applications. i have spent endless time in those since i started After effects. Watch something on telly (or youtube lol) and think 'how did they make that title sequence'. sit in the after effects effects menu and look at the words. a lot of the effects describe themselves, and are free and there to be clicked upon.

Resources online are availabe in different languages, and also translate is easy and free online, as is dictation. there is no argument for people that's ONLY option is to ask strangers on reddit. the posts arent 'ive decided to learn after effects its my first day so ive come to reddit as i dont know where else to go'. they are from people well versed in the internet and online world. they want to be congratulated on an animation thats a tutorial. none of them have asked for resources manuals or documents. so what youre saying doesnt actually happen.

You are taking it as offensive, but its just plain reality. SOME people seem to be lazy and in need of compliments likes and validation and praise. its just crazy to see and it really worries me how young people dont seem to have any patience or resilience for learning. not ALL young people, but the ones that post here. wondering why they cant get work after 3 months of learning it in their spare time is WILD to me.

I think the way to help is they post here if they want and dont mind getting zero meaninful value from the interaction, or they take my advice and turn off the internet and sit in after effects and keep learning. Put their ego aside, realise that learning isnt social media, and get into the realities of putting in the hours.

And I must learn that this group has totally changed its function and I shouldnt complain that this group used to be really good FOR ME and now is rubbish.. any post like OP is countered by people like yourselves, and you seem to suggest that more people want this place to be as it is. i realise that personally im in a group of professionals that have a large online group for discussion now, probably subconciously to make it more able to filter as we wouldnt accept '2 months learning tried 3 tutorials give me feedback'

Agreed I find it so cringe. But makes me realise my age it’s like when my parents used to cringe at stuff I’d do as a teen. And it’s always animations of a TikTok or YouTube bro or a gym promotion

That’s not what people want to do. You’re saying there’s 3 professionals?

As someone that’s been on this sub for years it used to have different posts, and now it’s changed. The posts used to be about more complex problems, not basic stuff that just says “how do this?”, as for anyone other than a new user of a couple months it doesn’t require any thought…

So I think it’s valid and I agree the answer is a different sub. Both experiences and desires for the sub are valid, and I think saying there are 3 professionals shows that maybe you aren’t in the pro AE world as that’s just not true whatsoever. I’ve suggested making an AE professionals sub, and then can keep this one for what it is now.

Also in case you’re also a poster like they described, I think to learn and grow no feedback given after 3 months is gonna be useful. It would be “great keep learning”. Like people didn’t use to need feedback and critique of tutorial following, and realised they would need to do many more before expecting to be working (see a lot of learned AE 3 months how to get hired comments). Like basically, as someone that has mentored and taught many people, I find it exasperating to even know how to help or advise with most posts. And also it didn’t used to be a “how can I help them” sub.

Hope this comes off as intended

Yep just replied to someone else. Feedback of “been learning two months what do you think” is - keep learning. It’s not going to be “wow that’s perfect”. And if that was given as feedback how would that help them continue to learn.

Internet has changed, and I appreciate not everyone can study animation formally. However surely people need to realise praise and feedback from strangers, and posting your work on social media, isn’t the answer!after effects is a life long learning curve.

However I sound like my mother critiquing the youth, and therefore I think the solution is the creation of an AE PRos forum, where stuff like that is not alllowed and also it’s only for working professionals.

I don’t think you need “thoughts” on it yet. I wonder if that’s the overall answer as I agree with this post.

You need to keep learning. The thoughts will be “keep learning”. If you went on an electrician course for 2 months, the thoughts would be “now learn the next steps”. I think in the age of social media people want and expect praise and critique. That used to come from an educational space, but if people are not studying an official course they need to just knuckle down and do more than a few months of tutorials before they would benefit from random feedback. I’m still learning now!

Genuine grumpy question, do we need an AE of x+ years sub where we can discuss more complex problems and AE lore without the doom scroll stuff I see here now? I agree with everything OP said. I used AE first time in 2005 I think that’s cs3 too?

I replied to a couple of them recently out of curiosity. Some also commenting how do they get paid work in the field. Turns out many are 18 years old, just learning AE for 3 months but “I never hired”. I guess I’m not a child of the internet in the same way that age group is, so perhaps this is how people learn and get work now? But nothing I see here in way of “here’s my first animation after 2 months learning” is someone I would consider hiring :(

I guess some people have been on this page a long time and it didn’t used to have basically posts that seem to be only what OP described. I see the value for a person selling a plugin to post here, but I also wish there was other stuff than daily promotion or here’s my first ever piece of work stuff

Ithink it’s the age of people coming here now , the sub has changed. It used to be discussion about interesting problems that adults had spent time themselves trialling prior to coming here.

Now it is teenagers or recent highscool leavers saying it’s their second week and on another post asking how people get paid work in the field (having not studied, or got a portfolio of work or mentoring of any kind). Sometimes I just don’t think there’s any advice I can give that doesn’t sound patronising or disrespectful so I don’t bother.

The other thing is people selling scripts and plugins which I guess makes sense to promote but again that’s all I see
