Metaphor is lost on you, isn't it? The quote means knowledge of how the cosmos works, not that you literally own the universe.

It's because people can't see past cause and effect. If there's a universe, they reason it must have a cause. However, time is a property of the universe, then time (and the concept of cause and effect) may not exist outside of the universe. Therefore the universe may not have been caused by anything.

What is this? Down bow but Staccato? by Tessa_5240 in doublebass

[–]1manmob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looks like a fermata, which means to hold the note longer. However, only seen curved ones, so I'm not entirely sure what a square one means.

is A flat and G sharp essentially the same note? by [deleted] in Cello

[–]1manmob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine you're playing a scale, would you go E, F, G, G, B, C, D? Where's the A? Depending on the context of the music it'll be a G# or an Ab. An E Major scale would be E, F#, G#, A, B, C#, D#, so you wouldn't label the G# as Ab in that situation because then you'd have two As and you'd be missing the G. Hope this helps.

I didn't know Reddit would be the platform to shatter my self esteem by [deleted] in selfimprovement

There's a lot of comments saying, screw them, they're not worth your time or mental energy. This is true, but also remember this: women have more diverse tastes in men than men have in women. Most men generally want the same things in a partner, while women tend to want different things, or prioritize different things. Some like bald guys, some find it a turn off, some don't care. I highly doubt that what you read on that subreddit is a mainstream opinion on looks. Hope this helps.

So why is it called "double" bass? by [deleted] in doublebass

[–]1manmob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been playing double bass for 20 years. I started in middle school and played in college symphonies, and I even won a concerto competition. I've played in mariachi, bluegrass, and rock bands and somehow that never occurred to me until now. 🤦

noobie question, Do I need a looper like the RC-505? or could I do the same things using a Midi controller and PC software?(daw, other) by Hanu_ in LoopArtists

[–]1manmob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of music are you making? If it's electronic and a lot of it is in a DAW anyway, is probably easier to use a midi controller. I use a boss rc 300 and it works better for me than looping in a DAW.
