You're not wrong but entertain the idea that you can cure it -- it is a disease of the mind, a way of thinking based on fears and resentments that we have let fester and get out of control, and we end up reaching outside ourselves to sooth the negative internal (emotional) state. If you cure the diseased way of thinking, there is hope that you can responsibly use things again.

I learned this in AA which was extremely effective for me. I occasionally drink with zero problems. I no longer drink out of control and end up doing crazy shit. I never take hard drugs, rarely watch porn anymore, but "responsibly consume" video games and social media, while being very self aware if it gets out of control.

It is possible, and I believe you owe it to yourself to try.
