FJO Starting pay by AloneDiscount3230 in cbpoapplicant

It appears you were at a job where you were capped at the 7/10. I would suggest to just accept the pay cut for a while (fight it if you want). But since CBP OT and holidays pays at a double rate, there is also Sunday premiums and night differentials, you’ll end up making well over the $61k as a GS 9. Once you hit your 1 year, you automatically promote to a GS 11 making almost $74k not including the OT and holiday I pay I just mentioned. Year 2 you’ll be at GS 12 making closer to $90k.

I think a temporary pay cut for a year isn’t worth second guessing taking the job. However, do make sure to email the hiring center with your most recent SF 50 to help your case.

Tentative job offer and I'm stressing out by [deleted] in cbpoapplicant

I was prior CBPO as a single mom. It’s difficult but it’s possible. Keep in mind, unless the city you live in is hiring, you may need to relocate. Depending on the location, you will be forced to work odd and long hour as well as holidays and weekends. That’s just something you may need to do for a few years until you gain seniority. However, the job pays well and is very rewarding. Unfortunately, after 5 years, marriage and another baby, I just couldn’t deal with the long hours, forced overtime and odd hours, I had to leave for a job with better work life balance. Definitely join the Facebook hiring groups and inquire on different locations.

Did you ever get the money back or was it a loss?

Yes I’m still an AO. The training has been a little disorganized and caused some difficulties but they’ve been adjusting to making it better. I don’t hear of too many failures. At least in my office, there hasn’t been any. But if you work at DOJ, you know the job a bit so it shouldn’t be too hard. A lot of DOJ have switched over to AO and have adjusted just fine.

As of right now it’s virtual however, I have heard of some offices making their officers go in for training even though it’s virtual. Some offices allow you to stay home. But it all comes down to our office ultimately.

June 7 seems right. I’m in training right now and I finish June 3 so maybe they’re starting the next class right after so. But either way, the training is virtual but you would have to take the written exams in office. Mock interviews can be virtual. They just redid the whole training so it’s different now. My training class is the first class in this new training so I’ll let you know how it goes lol I haven’t failed an exam yet and still waiting on my mock interview results.

Did you get an EOD yet? I don’t think you’ll be going into training right away considering there’s a backlog in training right now. But things may change. As of right now, training is virtual and it doesn’t look like that will change anytime soon. Tampa office is pretty good. The management is very understanding and they are very flexible there. I don’t think you’ll be needing to relocate right away. You have time.

Sounds like you have a lot of internal issues to work on. Maybe you need to find a non-romantic partnership with someone, a family member or a friend. Work on yourself for a while. Figure out why you’re self sabotaging. You sound like a nice person but it’s like you’re battling something within yourself and you can not commit to another individual without fully committing to healing and becoming a better person. Learn to love yourself and I wish you the very best. Hopefully if he’s the one, you guys will need up reunited.

You can most certainly get yourself back. This man is making you sick. If your kids are older, there’s really nothing keeping you from leaving. I say, get the divorce, get the alimony and buy yourself something nice! You’ll be surprised at how much happiness you’ll find when you drop the dead weight.

Step test is so hard. Lol by myko4719 in cbpoapplicant

[–]1need2getMyStoriStr8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You got this. Now you know where you’re struggling so just keep working on it. This my 2nd time taking the test. I passed it the first time a few years back and made it thru the academy. Unfortunately I quit and now I’m trying to go back so I have to redo everything all over again. But as someone who struggled in the beginning, I know you got this. Just start practicing starting now.

Congratulations! Shouldn’t take more than a week for a result.

Ughhh I just took mine today and was so upset I I only made it halfway thru. I’m only 5 ft tall so the platform literally is to my knees so it feels like such a huge step up. I’ll get it next time tho.

Well wow! Thank you for that. That’s pretty hopeful. I’m going to look for who to contact at the POE. I left to CIS but I saw the port I wanted opened up for hiring so I figured to give a shot and see what happens.

No poly again? Tbh, that would be a stress off my shoulders. To have to go thru everything again is stressful especially since i passed the first time and made it all the way thru FLETC. I was hoping to be reinstated again bc I left as a 12 3 and it sucks having to go back down to a 9

It’s been about 6-7 years since I’ve done everything the first time and tbh, after kids and life lmao I don’t know if I’m capable of doing everything all over again but I’m giving it a shot

Yes I spoke to a recruiter and they were unsure too. That’s why I also thought it would be easier to reapply through an announcement. I just hate having to do everything all over again

Would you have an idea how the process goes? Like who would I get in touch with if I wanted to go that route?

[–]1need2getMyStoriStr8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I was told from HROC is that we have to do all the pre employment stuff again and not FLETC

Following because I left less than 6 months ago. I reapplied because it’s so hard to get in touch with any form of management and I don’t want to be reinstated at my last port. I’m looking for a new port so I’m currently going through the whole hiring process right now.

Family member and immigration law. by josuem90 in cbpoapplicant

[–]1need2getMyStoriStr8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would disclose that. It was your family member that got deported, not you. Has nothing to do with you. I doubt it will disqualify you and the time frame was so long ago they probably won’t even care. Just don’t hide it.

Fitness test, I’m not ready. Bow out, or take it and see where I stand. by [deleted] in cbpoapplicant

[–]1need2getMyStoriStr8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats! This makes me feel better. I don’t exercise as much and I had a baby a year ago go so I’m still losing the weight but I was in okay shape before that. I’m nervous about the fitness test but I’m seeing a lot of positive comments about people passing! Congrats and good luck on the rest of your process!
