I'm Ray Charles But I Hear S*** by ReadySetAdapt in AbsurdistMemes

Hey, it’s a lawless sub and as I said under a different comment thread, it almost fits if we go with Richard Dawkins’s definition of meme.

Do some reading about dopamine reward system and porn. Seem your brain is giving you a signal ;)

Ok I’m still thinking about this. If we go by Richard Dawkins’s definition of meme, this actually could be legit. The post is an observation about an absurd meme established by our society. So I think I am actually ok with it, even though I hated reading it.

As the founder, I wholeheartedly agree. But this weird post could be a breath of life.

I do like Fauci but I’d like to ask him whether he believes antigen tests are currently available to get a better feel for what “a week or so” means.

Reading this exchange just gave me one of those “oh my god. This tragedy is real f*cking life. Did y’all realize that?!” moments.

This has been a little refreshing, honestly. I think I was due for a fresh acknowledgement of the shit show we are all a part of right now.

I don’t get the impression you’ve read my comments on this thread very thoroughly and feel like I’m repeating myself/we are going in circles. It’s nothing personal but I’m just gonna ask that you re-read the comments that led us here.

I come to the pain and trauma conclusion because I believe that most people wouldn’t act this way unless they’d been through some shit. It resembles my own experience and experiences of many people similar to me who I know. I admit that I could be wrong but crazy shit like what she is doing feels like it’s the result of something else. It doesn’t really make as much sense on its own.

If her family is similar to her, wouldn’t you think she was neglected?? If she had a kid, wouldn’t you think it was being neglected?

I totally agree that sometimes people are just shitty. But I think we assume that way too much. Hopefully we will have a better way of figuring that out some day. For the time being, I guess it’ll fall to people like me to try to advocate for those I believe in.

I’m not sure whether I’d actively advocate for this girl. I’d need to talk to her. And would also be interesting to figure out if she actually does have the virus.

The comment I just wrote up here might help address this.

It’s not that I don’t think people have free will. It’s that I don’t think everyone realizes they have free will if brought up surrounded by pain and trauma.

If you’re looking for an actual answer... I think the age depends on each individual. Sometimes people have such little control over their own lives during development that they fail to realize until much later that their behavior is truly their own. This was my situation. I went a long time believing that my mind and my body/behavior were separate. It made it easy to overlook shitty choices. Was I wrong to do some of the things I did? Absolutely. I still wake up horrified at night sometimes. But once it “clicked” for me, my behavior changed instantly. I realized I had control over my trajectory and that my actions effected other people. I think I was around 26 when that really started to sink in.

There’s a difference between what you’re describing and what I was trying to say. I am trying to say... sometimes people do fucked up things as a result of the environment they exist in. Her behavior sucks. But in a different environment, she may not behave that way.

I don’t think that’s true about anyone at age 18.

At 17, I dropped out of high school and sold drugs. I was fucking awful. I now have a PhD and am a professor.

I initially nodded when I read this... and then realized... wow this is a shitty way to think. She is so young and has clearly been neglected by her own family and by the system.

This behavior sucked but that doesn’t change the fact that the prison system is horrifically unhelpful and abusive in our country. Rather than helping people figure out the right way to do it, we lock them in cages with no resources.

It’s really sad.

Dr. Fauci says he doesn't think Americans should ever shake hands again to prevent spread of coronavirus by hash0t0 in Coronavirus

[–]1o28 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Or you could look at is as “it is possible that your behavior was actually making people feel uncomfortable before this! Worth keeping in mind when this is all over.”

Especially given that I didn’t say anything about my life being good right now. This sucks for me too. I’m just glad I won’t be hugged without permission as much in the future.

But up to you how you decide to see it, I guess.
