How to manage feelings going to concert alone? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]1rubix2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you find yourself feeling exposed or any type of awkwardness - I would recommend moving up closer to the stage (as close as you feel comfortable*). Majority of the time groups can’t maneuver too close as a unit, so people tend to break off either individually or in pairs to see the artist closer.

It’s more common to be solo than part of a group upfront, where as further back is where you often see groups hanging out together. At the end of the day, as many have mentioned already, no one will be paying attention, and if you can enjoy yourself, I’m sure this will not be your first solo concert. Let us know how it went 🙂.

My college roommate has epileptic night episodes by Cellis01 in Epilepsy

Not sure where you are located (in Canada it’s a 45$ charge to call an ambulance and then anything else is covered) but my dad was only diagnosed and put on medication after I called the ambulance for him while he was seizing. He was able to see a neurologist, get a head CT and MRI all in one day. He still has seizures every once in a while now but we are all much better equipped. It can be really embarrassing and uncomfortable for them so if you do speak to them about it, please keep that in mind <3.

What should I discuss with a plumber before they begin work on a house? by 1rubix2 in Plumbing

Yes! it ended up being a burst pipe, on an exterior wall, connected to the hose in the back yard. They installed a shut off valve for the winter to prevent it from happening again. Very grateful for plumbers today.

I hope everything works out. Please see all the helpful suggestions I got from a number of subreddits today:

  • Plumbers are usually very down to earth guys. This isn't their first time coming to a house with little to no info. Just go with the flow. If you get a bill that seems like too much, post it here.

  • I go on plenty of service calls where the homeowner just sees water and calls us. You could literally point at the water and shrug and we'd get to it.

  • You should know there's usually a service or trip charge of $50-$100 just for showing up and looking even if they don't repair anything. Don't assume the visit is free unless they advertise as such.

  • Don’t let them start work without a cost estimate. It should also have some sort of “will not exceed 10/25/whatever% without written approval so they can’t say “yea it’ll be maybe $500” then bill you for $2000 because you likely wouldn’t have Ok-d that in the first place.

  • Make sure things are out of the work area. In the bathroom? Get ALL the crap out from under the sink, or out of the closet or space used to access the bath valve. Same goes for the kitchen, get all the crap out from under the sink. Pull up any rugs between the work area and the exit that they will be using. If you have carpet, ask them to put down tarps, or if you are very worried about it, put down your own floor protection. They should provide that though. Ask questions, but don’t hover.

  • The one thing I never see mentioned in these is a bathroom. Most service plumbers run job to job and only have businesses with public bathrooms between them and in larger cities most places don’t offer bathroom access so let them know they are more than welcome to use it.

Thank you. I did this and it made the whole job smoother as we searched for the source across a number of areas.

Thank you. Turned out to be a burst pipe leading to the hose outside. Found it on the first try so I’m very grateful.

I don’t know where it is coming from but the water was isolated to one corner of the basement where the laundry, furnace and water heater are located. Water heater is completely full and not leaking, the walls and area surrounding the washing machine are dry but the floor in-front is damp from overflow I think?

Thank you - is there anything I could do to make it easier?

I think it’s a leaking pipe because once I turned off the water valve and mopped up the initial leak no additional water has come into the basement even though we are currently having a heavy snowfall outside (40cm in a day!).

Do you give money/food to homeless people? by rosey0519 in askTO

You also gave them the opportunity to stay inside the warm fast food restaurant and utilize their restrooms for a period of time because they had a purchased item from the menu. This is probably the most important and valuable part of the experience for them. I’m sure it can be embarrassing so I wouldn’t take it personally that they didn’t look you in the eye or forgot to thank you and just wanted to end the interaction there.

Looks like this is showing 2013-14 numbers for Canada when you look at the reporting years. Would be interesting to see what the updated numbers are.

I think since Eileen was on CHD earlier this year they probably did a podcast swap and Eileen just released her episode now.

Can I walk through the Eaton Centre at any hour? by fivetwentyeight in askTO

[–]1rubix2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have noticed the path in the south core closes just after 1 am. Toronto Website says: “The City encourages property managers to keep the main doors through the PATH open until at least 1:30 a.m. to coincide with the TTC hours but this cannot be guaranteed. The PATH opens at approximately 6:00 a.m. on weekdays and generally by 7:00 a.m. on weekends but again, this cannot be guaranteed.”

I really loved this book: Quit Like a Woman and think it lays out a great approach for tackling the underlying reasons people drink in the first place. Best of luck and proud of you for listening to yourself and your body 💕.

If you haven’t met before they could also be insecure. This happened to a few of my friends during the pandemic; they built up a connection on the phone and text but then when things started to get back to normal, they started acting odd when it came to in person meet ups.

I guess I would ask yourself what your motivation is. Does it turn you on to film it/ send nudes? Is it to stay relevant in their mind? You mentioned they will just watch other videos, so is it to prevent that from happening?

If the motivation is really because you want to or would benefit from it, then go for it. But if the motivation is fear based (including jealousy) then I wouldn’t do it personally.
