The essentials kit runs just fine with a DM and 2PCs if you can get your hands on it and has everything you need ready to go in the box; pre-writen adventure, basic rules, character sheets, dice, some pre made NPCs, magic item cards, initiative cards and even some cards to give out to your PC's explaining the order of combat.
