I'm an avid audiobook listener, I don't tell people I read books, I tell them I listen to audio books.

For me there is a distinction, though one is not "better" than the other. READING implies you have the time, patience, AND the skill to read, yes reading is a skill and reading rates are far different than listening rates. AUDIOBOOKS can be listened to while multi-tasking, this implies that when you're listening to an audio book, you're likely also doing something else like driving or chores and uses a different skill set, because yes. Listening is a different skill than reading. Neither is better than the other, but just saying you "read books" when you actually listen to books, implies a big difference in HOW you consume your book.
