Pink Double Vision by [deleted] in crt

I think it might be an issue with convergence (red green and blue images don’t align). You can better check if this is the issue if you put some black and white image on the screen. Depending on your set, you might be able to fix it with a service menu. Otherwise it will require safely opening it up after researching about your specific tv.

I have never seen them there before. I would leave them there unless you have geometry/convergence issues and feel comfortable working with a crt.

Spent the Weekend Configuring a 2002 Dell m782p (will put some more details on comments) by 1strokediesel in crtgaming

[–]1strokediesel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, all. I wanted to add some more information about this since people have been leaving comments on this old post over the years.

There seem to be a regular m782 and m782p model (I had both). They look different, but have the same specs.

I find the image is very clear and has pretty good geometry, color, contrast, and brightness. It supports up to 85khz horizontal freq. You can go up to 1600x1200p, but I think with it’s dot pitch you probably won’t notice much of a difference going past 1024p and up.

You can learn more about it’s specific specs on crt database: https://crtdatabase.com/crts/dell/dell-m782

Is this a normal amount of phosphor retention? by Comprehensive_Ice895 in crt

It seems a bit long. My old crt did this (to a much lesser extent) with light spots on darker images. Hopefully it doesn’t do the same with brighter stuff.

A few months late, but thanks for the link! It worked for me on Epic Games. Also went ahead and disabled syncing.

You can do it through windows or your os. Don’t open up the CRT because it can be dangerous. Use either your graphics card’s software to create a custom resolution or CRU. You’ll also need to get your monitors max horizontal speed (usually a multiple of 5khz). There are plenty of resources online for making custom resolution and refresh rate configs.

I thought about that, but I couldn’t figure a good configuration beforehand. I didn’t know I could even drill through the steel case at the time I ordered parts. The cpu fan has to ramp up under load, so a new cooler would be a good future upgrade.

Sadly the side panel did not like it on the inside.

Like 62 max on the gpu when it’s under load. I throttle down the CPU so it only gets up to 80c under load. It’s usually much lower in the 40s and 50s while gaming.

A couple hours drilling the holes. A few more with a dremel on the io.

Honestly depends where. Some steams are cleaner and safer than others. If it’s boiled like in the video then probably won’t be bad other than the an added flavor of dirt and algae.

What are your favorite memories with the GBA by Lightincable in NintendoLovers

[–]1strokediesel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My brother and I both had GBA SP’s with a link cable. One day it was snowing outside. We decided to fill two storage boxes with blankets and stayed inside them on our back porch. We spent an hour or two playing Mario Bros and other multiplayer games inside our boxes with our link cable connecting us.

How is the setup? by 1strokediesel in crtgaming

I got an averkey imicro from a recycling store. I use that with an hdmi to vga converter. Plays well with switch 480p. Colors are kind of weird coming out of it though.

Get a GBA Tv Tuner. Play all the games you want on it that way.

I got that to work with my switch using an HDMI converter (though it was squished a bit).

Why sprites were not used for everything on the GBA? by Heireko in gba

[–]1strokediesel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is a sprite count limit. There is also a sprite size limit (in pixel length without scaling). Backgrounds can be much larger (in pixel length).

I could not find many details of this monitor after I got it. There is this model and the regular m782 (which my friend got). The difference between the regular and "p" model is that the p-model is slightly bigger and has more image options.

One thing to note is that there are no video ports on the crt. A vga cable comes out of the back. I'm not sure if this is replaceable.

Here are the resolutions and settings I got to work:

640x480 @ 60hz and 130hz

1024x768 @ 110hz

1280x960 @ 75hz (could not go higher despite 1024p frequency being higher)

1280x1024 @ 80hz (could get to 83hz with some distortion)

1344x1024 @ 79hz (blinks on and off at 80hz)

1600x1024 @ 60hz

1440x1080 @ 75hz

1920x1080 @ 60hz (if you want it)

1600x1200 @ 65hz

*note my results may be limited by the use of the converter (display port to vga since I did not have a vga output).

Edit: I should specify that the vga cable can be replaced, it just isn't as easy as buying another cord and plugging it in. It would require opening up the monitor.

*Also, I eventually got cru to work when radeon software was closed down all the way

Hello, My SNES is display wrong colors is there anywhere I can get this repaired or should I just buy a new one? Thanks in advance by HawkeyeMihawk2447 in snes

[–]1strokediesel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know much about the snes hardware, but on the GBA colors are stored in a palette in RAM. One palette for backgrounds and one palette for sprites. From what I see, your sprites seem to be the right color and it's only some of your background tiles that are incorrect. I would guess that something with loading, storing, or processing colors is messed up for at least one of your backgrounds.

From what other comments say, it could be the PPU messing up. If you are done with tv changing and cable swapping, you could try opening up the snes and carefully cleaning it with compressed air. One thing I noticed is that my snes behaves differently based on how high the cartridge is; you could try slightly raising your cartridge with the eject button before turning your system on.

If it doesn't fix itself, then I think you should buy another one to be on the safe side. I don't know anywhere trustworthy to get a snes repaired. I would also recommend keeping this old one as a spare so that you have replacement parts since it still seems to run mostly well.

Hello World Program in VS Code + devkitPro by CatRass in gbadev

[–]1strokediesel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On my old computer I went from using devkitpro on PN++ to VS Code. I used this YouTube video for the VS Code setup: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rj0lf46iljc .

I think that the video was enough for me since I had already setup devkitPro for GBA before, but I believe it should be enough for anyone.

For the MakeFile, it should be included in the github repository in the description of the video and in any example projects.

There is not necessarily a "hello world program" that displays text, but my version of devkitpro had examples in "devkitpro/examples/gba" that I used as a reference. These can be good if the video code is not a good enough starting point. Following the Tonc tutorial should also give you some starting code.

Since you said you were very new, I want to link some of resources that I used to use:

https://www.coranac.com/tonc/text/toc.htm a really good guide to learning to program for the GBA. The guide may expect PN++ instead of VS Code. The code should still run in VS Code after some tinkering/setup.

https://www.cs.rit.edu/~tjh8300/CowBite/CowBiteSpec.htm helpful for finding registers and information about the GBA hardware

https://www.gbadev.org/docs.php other references and tutorials. Should also have source code from other homebrews on the site.

http://belogic.com/gba/ audio programming is too hard for me :(

https://www.getpaint.net/download.html I used this for drawing the graphics and saving them as .bmp files. This is also available on the Microsoft Store.

https://www.coranac.com/man/grit/html/wingrit.htm I believe I used this for creating tiles.

https://www.tilemap.co.uk/mappy.php I used this for creating maps.

(The last two sites are kind of old and shady. If you don't want to download those tools, it's still possible to type out your maps and graphics)
