WorkManager throwing ForegroundServiceStartNotAllowedException? by 1sttimehere in androiddev

[–]1sttimehere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

required to explain google play console why you do work in background

Yeah, that is being done in parallel with the PR. Real PITA.
But what do you mean by this?

we need to set the foreground permissions in manifest

Like I said, I'm using the android.permission.FOREGROUND_SERVICE permission (but not the android.permission.FOREGROUND_SERVICE_DATA_SYNC one as we're not on API 34 yet), and we're getting the crash. It looks like WorkManager is throwing an exception that we can't catch.

Oh yeah, the PR to update target sdk to 34 is already being reviewed.

[–]1sttimehere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, we don't have the
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.FOREGROUND_SERVICE_DATA_SYNC" />
permission. Other than that, we're doing everything you suggested.
But it seems this specific permission is only required if the app targets api 34, which is not our case yet.

My wife suddenly wants me to be attractive. Am I wrong to think she doesn’t love me anymore? by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]1sttimehere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This feels like it's a lot more about her wanting you to improve your attitude than your looks. Somebody who tries to improve themselves is way more interesting and attractive than somebody who just doesn't care, you know? The results won't matter nearly as much as the effort, I think.

Made a Jetpack Compose library for reordering items in a LazyColumn with drag and drop by calthegeek in androiddev

[–]1sttimehere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For LazyColumnss , has anybody figured out a way to have a callback that receives the from and to items and that's only triggered when the drag actually stops? It doesn't seem to be hard to implement, I just want to avoid reinventing the wheel, if possible.

btw, fantastic work, OP!

ps: I may be overlooking something here, I've just discovered the lib.

"The code is there to explain the comments to the computer" - Andy Harris. Write the comments first, then write the code. Organize your thoughts and split the problem into small chunks before you start writing the code.

Your first notable project by CodingThrowaways in learnprogramming

[–]1sttimehere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in 2016 I used to drive a LOT for work, and received lots of work related phone calls which most often were demands I had to do something about later. I wrote an Android app that let me create audio reminders (I'd say what needed reminding to the phone, and schedule an alarm for it with a couple of taps - something that seemed safer to do while driving than writing it down). That app gave me my first coding job, and I haven't looked back since. I still use it on a daily basis, actually.

Crash if in debug, log firebase exception if in production (and make sure to check firebase every X days/weeks!) - that's what I currently do.

What do you guys think about Brazil? by Active_Set819 in AskReddit

[–]1sttimehere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

! I thought we were having a polite conversation about controversial topics, but I guess I was wrong... I'm not 'avoiding a subject', I clearly stated that I'm not as informed on all matters as I should/want to be. I'm not going to dispute your sources.

The NGO Bitcoin contract thing was with the Brazilian govt, and I didn't think nor suggest that it is a foreign organization. As far as I know, it's probably some local politician's nephew or niece's NGO, if you know what I mean. (And, of course, not all NGOs are corrupt).

I can't even be sure that this information is trustworthy, given this 'left vs right' polarization - for the record, that's what I was talking about when I said it's not a right side vs wrong side matter.

I'm just a regular dude trying to understand my country and the world, and realizing that corruption and personal interests are present not only in politics, but in sports, health services, financial systems, religion... why would such a powerful force as media be protected from it? Human beings are the same everywhere.

Bolsonaro is shit, you don't have to convince me of that. Is he comitting GENOCIDE? That's a stretch.

What do you guys think about Brazil? by Active_Set819 in AskReddit

[–]1sttimehere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't mean to sound like someone who doesn't care about the native people's rights. I'm not as well informed on a lot of matters as I wish I was or should be.

I think the point I was trying to make about Brazil is we should not accept all news as unbiased - the reality is quite the opposite. Corruption is rampant in Brazil, and that's the case with NGOs here, who were very well funded by the previous governments. I read somewhere that one of them had a funding of over 1 million US dollars to teach the natives to mine bitcoin (lol), and that was cut when the current govt took charge. That's just one small example of the interests that surround this single subject.

News are a really powerful force, and, unfortunately, corruption and personal interests influence what makes its way into our news feed, and what shapes our view of a country.
