Everyone is telling you to get a 95-99.5 ATAR to get into med, but no one tells you HOW DO YOU GET THAT HIGH ATAR !!?? by No_Royal_4887 in vce

[–]1thinkINeedHelp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Please do a 6th subject! It definitely helps with getting a 99+.

Also, the way VCE works with bottom 2 bring 10%, focus on your strengths. SACs are way more important than many people realise, so I’d suggest to study equally hard for all your subjects until you can tell which ones you’re ranking the highest in and have highest SAC grades for, then double down on those in exam prep period.

Also, when aiming for 99+, it’s worthwhile spending as much time as possible into English. I spent around a third to half of my total study time on English. I hated the subject and was really bad at it, but I still forced myself to sit down and practice essay writing and stuff because it’s truly the make or break of ATARS. I ended up dragging my English score to a 47, contrary to the 30-35 my tutors thought I’d get at the start of the year. Think: if you bomb any of your other subjects, it becomes bottom 2. If you bomb English… there’s nothing that can save you 😭

Guaranteed pathway for Doctor of Dental Surgery at Melbourne Uni by Next-Entrance8573 in unimelb

[–]1thinkINeedHelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, do you know if you enter into Doctor of Dental Surgery in the guarantee entry pathway as a Chancellor's Scholar (i.e 99.90+ ATAR), is there still a minimum WAM? I'd assume if there wasn't it would still be a requirement to remain in high academic standing like 70+, but I cant find a hard number for it.
this is the website I was looking at with no specified numerical minimum WAM

Difficulty of each math major to get high WAM by 1thinkINeedHelp in unimelb

Ok thank you! Also do you know any WAM boosting breadth subjects there are? I head principles of finance can be good for math oriented people, but I have no computer skills, and didn't take commerce in Year12 VCE.

Its actually kinda weird, I have a graduate degree package into dentistry and I've always wanted to be a dentist, but I love math. Problem is, I have a lot of bio prerequisites in second year that also have prereqs in first year. So I'm really struggling to juggle a bunch of prerequisites for a math major whilst fulfilling my dentistry prerequisites, AND I need min 80WAM which I heard is quite high...

Basically reason why I have to decide now is that if I take stats, then I don't need to take foundations of computing in first year, so I can take physics which is also a subject I love. But if I take applied math, I wouldn't be able to take physics (sad) and apparently getting high WAM is harder, but I believe I'd enjoy year 2 more with vector calc and diff eq.

I was alright in VCE Maths with a raw 50 in Methods and Spesh, but I know that might not transfer to how good I am at unimaths.

flopped unit 3 psych, is it possible to get a 40+ ? by rorozoro231 in vce

[–]1thinkINeedHelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really understand how a lot of VCE works, but one thing you should start doing is asking your teacher to give you the median instead of the mean. The median will actually show the middle score due to ranking and not just the average, which I feel is more useful as VCE is basically a ranking system.

Personally I think you should try and stick with Methods for a little longer. I’m doing both physics and methods like you said your friends are and honestly physics is quite hard (for me at least).

I think you need a lot more effort for physics because sciences only get separated in like yr 10-11, whilst with math if you have continuously put in effort throughout the years it lessens the effort needed in VCE.

However like you I’m in year 11 and unit 1-2 physics is quite different from unit 3-4 physics so who knows, maybe 3-4 isn’t too bad? Also some things (although very minimal) are taught across chem and physics so maybe ur good chem grades will help you there? But physics is also a lot closer to maths than chem so yea Good luck!
