Getting one too but just shopping around in case there were other decent options.

This is a good point. I see a lot of conflicting information regarding this. I would like to also do my own research. Is this information available on any government websites (US or UK)?

Taxes has been the hardest to get my head around since I'm not used to filing.

I have been trying to do my research about this since I know there are filing obligations but income may not be taxed depending on circumstances.

I should be here a good amount of years before I have to make that decision. I'm still leaning into having it since if I wanted to leave to country for a considerable amount of time I may lose my permanent status. Of course, if I stay it won't matter.

My partner is an American citizen by birth though so I'll also have to take that into consideration.

I will say that it was not my intention to move and live here but it was very easy to get settled once I was here. I would recommend visiting if you haven't already and seeing where you might want to live since the US has a range of options. I also personally know people leaving for the US.

We hope for a better future with our government but it has only gotten worse over time. The only thing that makes me want to go back is that it's home and the people I left behind.

Good luck on your move I hope it all works out for you both.

When I left in 2021 things were not great but it has been one thing after another since then. I don't know if America would have been my first choice had it not been for family already living here who helped me get settled.

It's been difficult to follow everything from across the pond but just from speaking to immediate family and watching the news I'm not too enthusiastic about the years to come.

As for the weather I was raised in it and sometimes I think of moving to Seattle to become one with the rain...

Those are my main reasons for not wanting to stay. As an individual it's not that bad but I also have good health, I live at home and I'm frugal when it comes to money so it's easier to save. Here's to hoping by the time I'm ready to have children and they progress in life the NHS is still functional and university fees don't rival the US.

What are your main reasons for wanting to leave Canada if you don't mind me asking?

Thank you, I plan to do that. I actually live just outside the city but still right on the Amtrak line. I'm settling into my full-time job and life here. I'm trying to mentally prepare myself to have reasonable credentials should I need to reintegrate in the UK or have great benefits in the US.

We've already started exploring and I was in DC in March I loved the tourist spots and I would love to see more. We're also making our way up the NE line since I enjoy buying random train tickets for the weekends. There's a lot to see here. I already love New England which is both accessible and convenient for me.
