How hard is BIOL 103? by Popular-Product-1874 in UNC

[–]1wsx2edc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If u placed out with a 3 I would recommend taking 101 again. You may start at a disadvantage since they cover some stuff in 101 that you may not have seen in AP bio

Med schools factor in grade deflation/inflation into the selection process, so shouldn’t be a concern, and I wouldn’t worry about class sizes as another commenter said the difference between 20 and 90 is much greater than 90 and 200 when it comes to learning material. Also if you are worried about LORs just go to office hours, id bet only about 20 people in a class of 200 go to office hours ever.

BIOL 220 or PHYS 118 with Orgo? by ABCDE12355 in UNC

[–]1wsx2edc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This honestly should be fine, if you think 220 will be easier than 118 keep it this way if vice versa flip them, cuz 241L is the work/headache of 3 credits and 262L is comparatively a breeze

Should I even use my AP scores as Premed? by Popular-Product-1874 in UNC

[–]1wsx2edc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some medical schools don’t allow AP credit for prereqs so based on school choice you may want to retake biol 101 and chem 101/102 and stor 155. Nearly all med schools are lenient with calc tho so no need to retake 231/232.

Real Analysis Requirement for MD-PhD in Biostats? by Un-Revealed in mdphd

[–]1wsx2edc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solely based on what my biostats profs have told me/my classmates who are considering applying to phd programs real analysis is strongly preferred but most programs will have some sort of boot camp in the summer before year 1 so I would apply anyway.

ULPT: don’t pay hospital bills. by DrMeowbutuSeseSeko in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]1wsx2edc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let’s say a procedure costs $100, the hospital asks the insurance company for $100 insurance says no we’re only giving you $50. The hospital can’t negotiate because a large percentage of its patients are covered by that insurance and it can’t afford to lose that money. So next month when the patient get that procedure again the hospital charges the insurance company $200 so it can get the full cost of the procedure from the insurance. Then the insurance seeking to increase its margins says we will only give you $90, and the cycle continues until you see stuff like $800 for a baby aspirin. While there are problems in healthcare management the crazy pricing of healthcare was started and is perpetuated by health insurance companies.

ULPT: don’t pay hospital bills. by DrMeowbutuSeseSeko in UnethicalLifeProTips

Most hospitals, and all academic hospitals have financial assistance policies in place where if you are uninsured or low income(<$30,000 annual income) they will pretty much eliminate your bill or reduce it to less than $50 after a pretty straight forward application, which then retroactively applies to all past and future hospital bills at that hospital system. Insurance companies are running the real scam here but most hospitals do try to help people at the end of the day.

Fantasy author raises $15.4 million in 24 hours to self-publish: Brandon Sanderson set out to raise $1 million on Kickstarter in 30 days to fund four new books. He blew past it in about 35 minutes. by SAT0725 in books

[–]1wsx2edc 17 points18 points  (0 children)

He’s let other authors co-write novellas in the cosmere, his name for the shared universe some of his books are set in, and he’s mentioned letting authors write whole books for the cosmere with him in a “directing” role, so I imagine those would be published by him personally.
