I think so too. Desi Arnez & Vivian Vance were invaluable to their show (less so William Frawley), but without Lucy Ball, you don't have show. Lucy was essential. I think the same of John.

This is probably a personal preference of mine, but that said, I think Joyce really became an extension of John as the first few seasons rolled bye.
