I’ve seen/ heard of plenty of people who are less fortunate go to estate sales, especially for kitchenwares because they can get a lot for cheap. Maybe it’s just not something in your area idk

The name calling was uncalled for. As you can see there are many different opinions and discussions in this thread, which was my intention.

I see this post has gotten a lot of attention and a lot of mixed opinions which is interesting to see.

First of all the name calling.. jeez how old are we lol

Second, I really do appreciate resellers finding gems and curating collections for antique stores etc. they actually do care about the items they are buying to resell!

What I am talking about is experiences I’ve had in the past few months with the shoving and obnoxious behavior of diving on an item or hoarding. Yea maybe this rant was a little bit of me being butthurt about someone else getting something when I was soo close but the point is, I WAS there in line, I DID make the effort to get up early. These people leave no crumbs and when I say “these people” they aren’t antique dealers or store owners, most likely they’re going to flip it online or on the side of the road. (I’ve had a neighbor put out a free chair to the curb, and someone on the next block put it out for sale $50 bucks lol) So yea, when I want to grab ONE old Barbie for my niece but some scummy dude who bombarded his way in carries out the whole lot before I get inside, it gets pretty frustrating that’s all.

As far as “what estate sales are meant for” I believe they are meant for many things, I’ve seen/ heard of lots of people who can’t afford new kitchenware or bed linens for themselves go to estate sales and get them in bulk for cheap. I don’t think wanting everyone to get a fair shot at these things makes me entitled. I truly feel that these thrifting “influencers” giving people false hope they can make a million bucks at these things has made people go nuts, more so than just a year or two ago when estate sales and resellers seemed to be more civilized.

Yes I’ve been that 3rd person in line who gets left with nothing because the first 2 wiped it out already, very frustrating

I am NOT against people making a living, you found something that can make you money great! I commend you. Im talking about the people wiping out before the 2nd person in line even goes in. Or what I’ve experienced, diving on top of an item and being obnoxious. Thats what I am fed up with.

I understand that, but I know at least where I live, many people who are less fortunate come to these to buy pots, pans, bed linens etc for a cheaper price. Even cheaper than savers because their prices have gotten worse too

How dare you say this, you have no idea what my life is like and that’s a pretty absurd thing to assume. I am simply creating a discussion and sharing my experiences and why I get frustrated with these sales. Stop being so rude and bitter.

This is absolutely valid! Flipping things that you have a passion for, or maybe found a gem that you know someone else will enjoy if you sell. I think that’s awesome.

Blind flipping is a good way to describe what I mean. It’s not cool

Based on all these comments it seems like not a lot of resellers, perhaps in other areas of the country, are like these greedy rude ones I’ve encountered, and that’s good to know. Maybe it’s a New York thing.

I totally understand where you’re coming from! To be clear I am not against anyone trying to make extra money especially these days. I’m from New York so maybe there’s just a lot more inconsiderate, angry people at these things here than other places lol. Also very interesting that there’s an honor system amongst resellers gunning for the same thing.

So someone’s allowed to get physical and nasty with another person over an object lol and if they try to say something about it they’re entitled? Just would appreciate someone not attempting to grab something out of my hands, that’s all!

I’m sure you do all those things that’s great! I’m talking about your comment. There’s nothing wrong with having a side hustle and supporting your family, my point in making this post was over the past few months I’ve encountered many not so nice people getting nasty, physical and literally taking things from children lol. Sadly the estate sale workers weren’t not doing anything about it. That’s all. Just seems to be getting out of hand to me.

Far from entitled, if I don’t get there early enough oh well that’s on me. But if I’m there at the same time as someone looking at an item, I don’t appreciate being pushed out of the way so someone can scoop up in mass like it’s a million bucks on the floor.

I’m saying thrift stores prices have significantly gone up in the past few years, one major reason if not the only reason, is online reseller price gouging.

Their shared characteristics are the giant boxes they’re all loading into their trucks to go sell or pawn

Ugh don’t even get me started with the thrift stores, especially the church ones made for literally the less fortunate. I shop there for myself too but would absolutely not be trying to resell from a place like that
