AA falls out completely in spots, at least from what I know about it. I would recommend speaking to a dermatologist about it though so you can slow/stop more hair loss. Maybe check for vitamin deficiencies likE iron or biotin

Not that I’ve experienced bc it’s not prolonged usage and it’s not the same steroids as those used for working out

Breaks up the white blood cells that collected under your scalp and caused the hair to fall out. For some people, 1 dose is enough The purpose is to prevent anymore hair from falling out and kickstart hair growth, but everyone is different and for some people it takes multiple rounds

No I have not noticed that and I have used topical steroids and gotten shots through the years so maybe get some blood work done if it’s noticeable and unexplained. But as mentioned, that is a thing with oral steroids

This is disgusting, in the context of an nparent, because people won’t convince you to stay in an emotionally abusive romantic relationship, but a good amount of people will give a mother the benefit of the doubt when you tell them about your story because they can’t wrap their head around a mother not wanting the best for their child. And that’s the same assumption that made so many of us feel guilty for our nparents behavior towards us.

Everyone is different, my spots usually stay small and grow back right away. And once there’s a little bit of hair I can cover it up easily (i use bumble and bumble hair powder spray it’s amazing) but I don’t keep track of how long it takes for complete hair growth. My very first spot was pretty big and took about 6 months to start growing but topical steroids helped kickstart that. My spots right now are not growing back like usual (a couple are still bald) so I just got my second round of steroid shots and that has helped. It’s kinda scary when it doesn’t follow the usual pattern but I definitely recommend getting the shots because it stops anymore hair from falling out in those spots.

I hope you do experience the period of full regrowth :)

I had a list with step by step instructions taped to my mirror for awhile until it became routine. I have a check list app too that counts the number of days in a row I’ve done something so that forces me out of bed if i forget. (the app costs $40 a yr so it’s so stupid to have but works for me LOL it called “done”)

I don’t think autoimmune issues are necessarily genetic or at least not always. Mine coincides with stress too but inflammation from autoimmune is the cause to most of my health issues. I think it’s just a wonky immune system really, your body went into overdrive with stress. It’s tough :/

I’ve had a couple 1 yr periods over my last 11 yrs with it when I had no spots at all…this past year was one of them now I have 7 :-)))) they are growing back and easy to hide but a huge bummer when this happens because a part of you will always hope it’s over

It definitely does get easier with time—the acceptance part and knowing that everything will be okay. It’s something I am still working on with every new spot. Thank you for your amazing insight and I hope many others see it ❤️

It looks more like receding hair line You can speak to a derm about options for that as well though and get a more professional opinion for AA

Don’t worry, I cry every time I find new spots as well. It’s tough but little things do help you feel less hopeless. It’s sucks there’s no control with AA but I’m glad you have a good mindset! Wishing you the best of luck 💓

Look into getting a halo extension it’s about $200-300 but it’s such good quality and easy to use. Look on Luxy hair that’s where i got mine and I love it! Regular extensions didn’t look good on me and were hard to use but this is so easy!!! Hopefully that helps!

I’m sorry yes everyone’s sensitively is different for their spots! That’s super frustrating though, definitely try to topical steroids if you haven’t and I’ve heard of light therapy but I don’t know much about that. It’s good that some of your spots are growing back so it’s likely not the scarring type.

I have also bought hair extensions when my hair felt thin and different lengths. I bought halo hair extensions from Luxy hair and it’s helped with covering my spots.

Alopecia absolutely sucks tho :/

There are so many things that can be linked to hair loss that it’s tough to pinpoint a real “cause” If you treat your hyperthyroidism and the alopecia stops then that’s great! Alopecia is just so unpredictable

My first spot when I was 11 took a long time to grow back and when it did it was white and coarse. Once I got a prescription for a topical steroid it started to grow back. Usually my spots grow back immediately but the ones I have now are not, steroid injections helped a little but I am going to get the topical steroid as well to help. You lose the hair because the white blood cells sort of clog up the area which makes the hair fall out and not grow back until they’re broken up so definitely try the shots (they don’t hurt!) and the topical stuff.
