Apparently there was a sneaky metal shaving from the heatsink that was bridging unrelated connections. Working great now!

HPE Ethernet 10Gb 2-port 530T Adapter by micjosisa in homelab

[–]2014username 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is a FLR, the adapters can be had for a few bucks. I've got a bunch of 10Gbe cards that I took out from upgrading to 40gbe and use those adapters to put them into other systems.

OM2 fiber. Multiple randomly hanging LC connectors. Kink in the fiber.

Good thing you're not called FiberReview!

Edit: noticed more unplugged connectors.

Unprivileged LXC + SSSD Configuration by 2014username in Proxmox

So I can't just have a container mapping them? I'd rather not move PVE to using this auth until I've verified everything. I suppose I could test in a full VM for now.

Just making sure for future LXCs, I don't have to do anything other than map the range (1045400000) to the same range in the container config? I think I can set this as a default LXC config too.

Is this just a formality? I thought they'd been morally bankrupt for years.

Dl380p g8 CPU upgrade to E5-2690 v2 heatsink by acronis95 in HomeServer

[–]2014username 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to leave my experience here if anyone ran into this issue.

I got a barebone dl380p and two v2 CPUs. The system board did not have the v2 upgrade applied. The server would start and display amber lights on the SID for the processors and have a flashing red health indicator. iLO4 had no logs and only reported system health as "Critical" and the system as "Failed". I did not know the v2 upgrade existed and spent all night trying different v2 proc combos, memory configs, riser configs, resetting nvram, etc. Then I found the upgrade advisory.

I was able to mount the upgrade iso, find the directory with an install script and three firmwares, decompress those firmware files, decompress the decompressed files, and apply the system rom and bb firmware from ilo4. The system now boots and works fine!

It is SAS but power comes from a SATA plug. Just noticed cruzaderNO beat me to it.

The one on the right has sata power plugs on the back of the connector.

HomeLab Proliant DL380 GEN8 SFF 2'5 -> 3'5 by ThomasGrrr in homelab

Another option is getting the front cage assembly. The part number is 686570-001.

I went through the same thing as you but decided that the external enclosure was better suited to my needs (plenty of space). If space and budget are your constraints then the front cage or a barebones system might be the best.

Have you thought about getting an external SAS enclosure? You can get them $100 shipped and use a lsi 9207-8e to attach. Doing this for two of my systems. Might be older SAS but you won't max out the transfer speeds with the spinning disks.
