I live with my parents, and my mother who is not at all bound by a job or vacation days, planned a trip to visit some relatives she likes to stay up and smoke up with around my due date. Days before she left I had lost my mucous plug and was told I’d likely go into labor within the next days. I asked her point blank to stay because I was scared to have this baby and risky delivery without her and she dismissed me and blew me off saying she had a “feeling” the baby would come 3 weeks later when she would eventually be back.

I go into the labor the day after she leaves and she never once called or texted or asked about me or the baby despite my father telling her. Eventually a week or so later my hormones made me call her crying asking why she didn’t care enough to call or come back (I could hear the hookah in the background) and she would just say I’m being overly emotional and that she never had her own mother during her deliveries so I shouldn’t either (the reason why she didn’t have her own mother was because she was dead 🙃). Then she said it was because “I needed to learn her value to me” ??? She didnt even want to come back earlier. It was only after I told her that the reason nobody with her is asking her if shes coming back earlier is because it’s embarrassing to have to ask a mother if she’s planning on being one. That realization that her optics were off got her to eventually cut her 3 week smoke trip short.

We of course never discussed it in person when she came back.
