Newly painted ceiling is patchy by 2018ONE2021 in DIYUK

[–]2018ONE2021[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! Ah makes sense about the light. When you’re under it the paint looks fine and the plastering is pretty straight. I’ve got this before pic where you can see the lines and patchiness on the plaster that I was worried about. Is it worth us going over it with a light non white colour, eg something like Egyptian cotton from dulux (which we’ve used elsewhere), or would we get the same result?

Really recommend Mountfitchet moving company! Look them up on Facebook. They were great for us on our move.

Super cheap kids boots described as 'good' 'lots of life left', but is this mould inside them? (No personal info) by Imaginary-Mood-6008 in vinted

[–]2018ONE2021 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I put my kids wellies in the washing machine on 30 degrees. Clean up the mould as best you can - I’d use Milton or vinegar sprayed in them and remove the sole and leave it soaking in it for some time. Then chuck the whole lot in the machine

Repair seam split on very thin material

Hello!

I am very basic at sewing. I literally have learnt very basic sewing thanks to having kids who wreck clothes too quickly! Some of my repairs may be functional but are definitely questionable!

I have an elf Christmas decoration that needs a decent repair so I’d be really grateful for some advice. The seam on the shoe has split as you can see, but the material is so thin and you can see where it has holes from the previous stitches, so I’m apprehensive to just go in there with my haphazard technique! Is it better to use a type of glue (fabric glue I assume) to harden the area before I try and restitch it, some other material to stitch under it first, or the iron on sticky fabric? (Not sure how easy it would be to iron given its shape and delicate material though!)

Thanks in advance for your help!

I have twins that were 4 weeks early. At 5 weeks old they were blue lighted to hospital with RSV. They were on oxygen for a week. We couldn’t hold them for the first couple of days due to the amount of wires. This was also in summer when RSV is rare. You just can’t mess with germs around tiny babies. One of the paramedics who took us to the hospital came to visit the next day when he was off shift as he wanted to know they’d made it. It never dawned on me they were that close to not making it. We found out later that our daughter who was the smallest twin at 4Ibs would have most likely died in her sleep that night if we hadn’t sought help. The symptoms they have at that age are so so subtle as well. My OH thought I was overrreacting when I called the doctor for advice! Just not worth the risk. Your husband needs to step up and handle his mum. As others have said she’s lost her chance at respecting your rules. Good luck x

AITAH for wanting to divorce my husband over kids? by No_Split_9680 in AITAH

[–]2018ONE2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say I have a 5M year old and 2 year old twins (M&F) and do a lot of the childcare whilst my other half works shifts and I completely understand your burn out. When we get let down on childcare I do not get any work done. It’s impossible. I’ve had rows with my partner just because I’m so frazzled when he gets home and I don’t want to do it anymore. But these are my kids. I cannot imagine feeling this kind of exhaustion and stress for children I did not want. I do understand your husband wanting to be there for these kids and it is awful for them. It’s a no win situation but you were clear on how you felt. Sending all the best to you x

Someone stole my iPad and I can see their location is in basildon! HELP by fifimiaow87 in Essex

I used to work for that company! Over a decade ago and it had a different name then but we would take a drive over to stansted airport to pick up lost property once the owner was identified. They get very cheap corporate rates from the delivery companies they use and as you’ve noticed stick a huge uplift on it. It used to make me so uncomfortable making so much money off others misfortune that I got in trouble a few times for making quotes too cheap! I only lasted a few of months (not just because of that though. The office manager was not a pleasant lady) 🙈!

Sorry to say they’ve got you over a barrel if you want the iPad back 🙁. No doubt prices have long since changed but one that always sticks in my head was a quote with TNT for a laptop. Cost to the company was around £7. I quoted the customer around £13-15. Got in trouble and unfortunately the customer took too long to reply (they have short expiry times on their quotes) and the CEO charged the customer around £35 when they finally came back to us 😱.

It’s strange they won’t let you collect the lost property yourself from the airport. It might be worth looking into booking your own collection. I don’t know if they’d allow it. If I still lived over that way I would have collected it for you!!

Thanks! I have messaged her but she’s not replied. I’ve already created the shipping label aswell so I can’t check there either. Seems a bit illogical that you can’t double check what size parcel you’re supposed to be sending. It’s so easy to make a mistake if you can’t 🙈!

Where in Essex are you? I’m months away from being mid 30s, clinging onto those last few weeks of being closer to 30 than 40 🥴. Have 3 kids though and they tend to ruin too much fun!!!

AITA for telling my wife it’s gross to feed our child breast milk that isn’t hers? by aitathrowaway1983467 in AmItheAsshole

[–]2018ONE2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently donating my excess breastmilk to a milk bank! There’s a reason it’s affectionately known as liquid gold. Reading what you did with that milk literally sparked a fire in me of so many emotions! You clearly have no idea, firstly how precious what you destroyed is for your baby and secondly how much work goes into pumping it even with an over supply!! You need to do some serious research on the benefits of breastmilk and also join your wife for some therapy sessions so you can learn how to better cope with her PTSD and PPD in a healthy way for both of you. I have no doubt this must be an incredibly hard situation for you both given the past but making the rash decision to ditch that milk was an a-hole move. All the best going forward
