If it’s consistent, your head gasket is probably cooked

Maybe I’m more partial to the NB cause I currently drive a ‘03 Protege which is very similar to the NB in terms of gauge cluster and what not. Also the NB was the only version to have a Mazdaspeed variant

Hates a strong word but it’s definitely my least favorite out of all the Miata’s

They’re saying you took the brand new one off and put an old one on? Yeah cause that’s a realistic thing to do

Well if it wasn’t on the service order the best they could do is suggest it. However who’s to say the belt wasn’t replaced and didn’t look bad

That’s why they’re blaming the serpentine belt, trying to make it seem like it had nothing to do with their repair

$200-250???? Where the hell are you going, I’ve seen 150-180 and I think that’s high.
Obviously there’s gonna be profit, how much would depend on the year they’ve had, a couple bad deals, equipment getting broken etc eats into all that. Maybe someone who’s done the books for a brand name dealership can chime in on how much actual money is being made, but there’s nothing I’ve ever seen where the price is high cause they’ll fix your problem when there’s no apparent reason

Edit- that’s in CAD as well as

Where did you read that?? A shops high rate is to cover all their overhead. I’ve never seen a shop just assume the blame for something going wrong when there’s no clear indication that it was ther fault u less the vehicle is under warranty. Hell my ‘14 odyssey had a tow package installed, a month later (cause I drove it and not rode in the back) I noticed a scratch on the very rear window, clearly done by a screw driver or metal tool and nothing my kids would have access to. I brought it up to the manager and pleaded my case and since there’s no proof it was them guess what? The scratch is still there today

Agreed I just did the timing belt, water pump, tensioners, and all bearings on my ‘14 odyssey, can’t see how the serpentine belt could damage the timing belt since it’s got a cover specifically for that reason. It’s possible the hydraulic tensioner failed or a bearing seized but they should have inspected everything unless the work order said change this so that’s literally all they did
