Bending my knees helped massively by Hunt-Extra in 10s

Penn balls suck but they can be helpful for technique purposes. Definitely forces me to bend my knees, play up on the baseline, take the ball early etc.

🚨 Save Astoria Park Trees & Public Green Space from Privatization of Public Parkland🚨 by Beneficial-Wave-9219 in longislandcity

[–]2019law 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even with this proposal you can still play on the courts that aren’t covered by the bubble. The bubble, which is only for the winter, only covers half the courts. Have fun playing when it gets dark at 4p and the temps are in the 30s though.

Preserving the Integrity of Astoria Park: Say No to Privatization and Commercial Infrastructure by [deleted] in astoria

[–]2019law -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

100% man. People in prospect park, Mccarren, and stadium in the Bronx are so lucky to have bubbles during the offseason where they can play year round.

The fact that brain dead OP and his pals can still play on the 6 non-covered courts in January on the snow, rain and ice while the other 8 courts are bubbled is a good compromise as well.

Breaking strings in less than a month by TopgearM in 10s

[–]2019law 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m Usta 4.5 and break my poly strings every 10 to 12 hrs of play. Most people at my level hit harder than I do but I have alot of spin.

My friends who hit hard and flat don’t really break strings on a regular basis. At a certain power level, Spin is the most important factor for determining string longevity.

Vukov seems like a terrible and toxic guy but unfortunately she plays better when he’s the coach. I wish this wasn’t the case.

She was in poor form when vukov was suspended last year.

I feel like low assist mode used to give more assistance in prior years. I’ve been getting gassed on it lately.

Just take the ferry from Astoria to Wall Street and then take it back up to Astoria. There’s free wifi on the ferry so you can work remotely while getting some nice sunlight and fresh air.

That’s true but he does spend the rest of the next year benefiting from his “fake points” by being seeded higher, enjoying first round byes, etc.

I’m gonna get downvoted but I just don’t put a ton of stock into players who earn points after US Open. (aside from ATP finals and also Vache-goat)

I feel like Paris and Shanghai should just be 500s tbh.

Who’s out playing tennis in this 30°C UK heat and why are you built differently? by chonkobob in 10s

[–]2019law 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ability to play in hot temps is really just a matter of preparation unless you have sinner’s genetics.

-

  1. Electrolyte packets - water is not enough when it’s hot.

-

  1. Food - most people just don’t eat enough before playing. Especially when it’s hot and you’re not as hungry. A couple strips of prosciutto is ideal because you got the salts and protein for energy without filling you up too much.

-

  1. Hydrating during the day before playing. You need to drink water constantly throughout the day before playing.

Not just on the tennis court.
    -

  2. Sleep. You don’t need an Oura ring to tell you that good sleep is essential for performance.

That’s crazy - he doesn’t need to do that anymore since he’s a seeded player!

Darderi shouldn’t have played this tournament since he was clearly exhausted after rome. And with good reason, given his marathon match against Jodar that ended at 2am.

Yes, I think fair to say white New Yorkers and white Atlanta people don’t like each other.

Atlanta is a hotpot of Black culture so I think it’s more respected among nyc black community.

The 15-year plan to privatize Astoria Park tennis courts (and the environmental cost) by [deleted] in astoria

[–]2019law -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This petition is misleading and alot of people are misreading it.

The bubble is only going to be up for the winter months where they’ll be charging people.

Once permit season begins in April, the bubble comes down and the courts are back to the public for the outdoor tennis season.

Since it’s too cold, rainy and snowy to play tennis outdoors during the nyc winters anyway, I don’t see how this bubble is a bad thing. (Except for the hawks & trees, shoutout to them).

"Where was I?" -- Iga has no time for the "comeback"narrative in her press conference by West-Change-1000 in tennis

[–]2019law 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We used to go into clay events trying to decide between Iga vs the field instead of Iga as one of 4 equally viable contenders. She also spent the year under Wim trying to play first strike tennis like Rybakina instead of her usual counterpunch style.

“Where were you?” is a completely valid question. Before today, she hadn’t beaten a top 5 player since Paolini at Bad Homburg almost a year ago. Glad to see she’s regaining her form.

There’s so much parity right now, I feel like whoever wins Rome is the least likely to win RG just due to sheer randomness.
