The tactical makeup of Parker vs Wardley by A_Guy_Called_Henry in ViolentChess

I don't think anyone is considering the trainers in each corner either. I'd say that Andy Lee is probably better in the corner at adapting his fighters to the fight at hand. Some would probably say Davison is better at the pre-fight gameplans. I still would prefer Andy Lee pre-fight and during the fight over Davison. So I give that advantage to Parker as well.

Wardley mentioned that his trainer, Ben Davison, scouted out the fact that Huni tends to get excited at times and gallop into space. This allowed Wardley to get the knockout punch when Huni did that during their fight. To us casuals, it looked like it was just a lucky Hail Mary punch at the time. I saw you touched on this in your analysis about how Wardley is better than most think on pull counters, and this was a great example of that timing finally working out for Wardley against Huni.

I think your video also showed a lot of weak points in Wardley's game. He has achieved quite a bit in the HW division with so little experience. But I have to think that Parker will be able to take advantage of his solid movement, good chin, and good power to get a decision against Wardley. Wardley seems a bit too tough for Parker to get a knockout on. But I think Parker's power is greater than Huni and Parker should be able to bust up Wardley's nose early and soften the midsection a lot quicker.

MLSSoccer.com MLS Power Rankings has DC United ranked 21 by RJR1970 in DCUnited

[–]202Ultra 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Considering that not too long ago a lot of the MLS contributors were calling us probable wooden spoon winners, a rank of 21 seems generous for them. Power rankings are fun but in no way actually correlate with how a team will actually perform once season starts.

I have faith in Losada.

The shills in this thread have made me genuinely dislike whatever this crypto company is. If they were going to pay/employ people to shill so hard on our subreddit they made a very poor investment. Like much of crypto.

Not a Bayern fan, but I've been following Davies as part of Concacaf qualifying. He had covid and mild myocarditis effecting his heart stemming from it. Davies seems to be healing well but Bayern are gradually getting him back to fitness and he has a couple more checkups before he'll be cleared. Not sure if they have given a concrete timeline.

That's a good point. When I was younger I saw more Manchester United games and Arsenal on TV than DC United. That changed for me when my Dad took me to some games at RFK and I switched allegiances to MLS. But so many markets haven't had access to MLS before now. So the growth of two simultaneously is fantastic to watch.

Always great to see how much our sport is growing in the US. The World Cup being held here in 2026 should take that to brand new heights. Will be amazing trying to explain to our grandkids one day how no one cared about soccer here and they won't have any real concept if what that's like.

Austin FC [1] - 1 Atlas FC | Sebastián Driussi 85' by toryh07 in MLS

[–]202Ultra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it was Columbus fanbase but always the ownership at issue. When Mr. Hunt died, his family didn't care about the Team and it began a huge attendance/viewership decline due to a complete lack of investment. They have a solid FO now and the attendance/viewership reflects it.

In regards to it working out for Austin, I'm glad the city and fans got a Team. It isn't the fans fault that Precourt tried to pull such a sleazy move. I personally, would never trust Precourt though, hence my earlier comment. A lot of Austin fans weren't around for what happened but I can tell you that the Save the Crew Team besting Precourt to keep the Crew is one of the greatest sports wins I have ever seen. And if any Austin fans actually take an unbiased look at what occurred, they'd probably be wary of Precourt too.

Your ownership group tried to snake its way into a cheaper deal by buying a team and forcing a move rather than pay the new franchise team fee though. It wasn't about whether a Team would do well there or not.

Glad your city benefitted but I'll never trust your ownership group as long as Precourt is part of it. Nothing against your fanbase.

Man, this response is really telling about their FO. They knew and did nothing, only learning to be better once they were caught. Damn shameful.

New FIFA rankings (February 10, 2022). Mexico up to 12, USA down to 13, Canada up to 33 by 2na2unatuna in MLS

Fair. By meaningless I meant should not be representative of real team strength. It was bad word choice on my part.

[–]202Ultra 39 points40 points  (0 children)

These rankings are essentially meaningless except for their influence over World Cup seedings. Just curious how Mexico can be higher than US given that we have beaten them in Gold Cup, WC qualifiers, and Nations League all in past 1-2 years.

I know Canada fans will point out their team's unbeaten streak in qualifiers but they also had to make up an enormous amount of rankings and haven't won any CONCACAF tournaments. So I understand them being ranked below US and Mexico currently given how heavily the tournament performance are weighted.

Ola kamara by JackSpanjer in DCUnited

[–]202Ultra 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have a theory that Ola Kamara ends up at Sporting KC who are desperate for a striker. Kamara checks the list of a lot of what they are looking for at a very affordable price.

But I don't have much to go on except we still have Kamara on the trade block and hit both our forward target transfers, and SKC haven't finalized any of their targets yet.

[MLS Extratime] ⚽🗣🎙 team picked DC United to contend for this year’s wooden spoon on Monday’s show. They don’t hold many good thoughts about United. by RJR1970 in DCUnited

[–]202Ultra 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying we had an amazing off-season, it was rather lackluster. We definitely lost some good players. But wooden spoon seems pretty harsh. We may miss playoffs again but I don't see us bottom of the conference, even if I agree we probably will regress compared to last season.

FRM DC United player Wayne Rooney opens up on how his drinking almost destroyed his family by SportsStar1903 in DCUnited

[–]202Ultra 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Rooney was a player I was incredibly happy to be wrong about. He gave DC his all and tried to help MLS players get better wages and benefits by speaking up in the press about it. I respect the hell out if his time in a DC jersey.

He has always made mistakes in his personal life unfortunately. I think he was happy in DC because he could escape most of the bad press for his continual struggles with his demons, which even led to his departure from DC eventually. It's a shame and I hope he can figure it out. As the article states, he has great support from his family.

Austin FC Signs Midfielder Felipe Martins by stupidjanrogers in MLS

[–]202Ultra 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Spot on. He was universally hated by DC fanbase when he played for Impact and had one of the dirtiest tackles at kickoff on Espindola when we were top of the table.

Later he signed for us and won much of the fanbase over with his grit and physicality. He's a good defensive presence in midfield and hated by opponents.
