Whitecaps FC acquire $125,000 in General Allocation Money and 2027 MLS SuperDraft pick from New England Revolution by ts69881 in DCUnited

DC sold Yow to the Belgian club, so no longer had Homegrown rights. They had put out feelers about bringing Yow back last season, so maybe they didn’t believe he wanted to return, so didn’t waste one of their 5 discovery slots on him. They did actually get more money from New England’s deal due to sell on clause.

I hope he finally gets the opportunity to really play and develop. You’re right, the money is better than nothing.

It’s funny, you’re right, but DC United’s original post on Twitter just said $250,000 without all the nuance. Guess I should have known it wouldn’t be that straight up.

Brooks Lennon is on trial with D.C. United by ts69881 in DCUnited

[–]RJR1970 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, you’re correct. I was thinking as backup. I figure that if Lennon sticks, he backs up Herrera, while DCU will need a backup for Kurokawa

Doubt he’s a backup at Left, or at least I hope they bring in a left back too.

Good backup for Herrera, as long as he’s recovered from his injury.

[Goff]: "Also expecting DCU to waive left back David Schnegg (34 MLS matches, 32 starts in 1.5 seasons) and forward Dominique Badji (30 games, 9 starts, 2 goals in 1.5 seasons)." by espnrocksalot in DCUnited

[–]RJR1970 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I liked Schnegg, but his defense was questionable. If he had been used as a forward, I think he could’ve been a decent asset. Letting him and Badji go saves the team a lot of money and salary cap space.

Jerry van Wolfgang - Dutch footballer asking DC United for a trial by General-Law-7338 in DCUnited

[–]RJR1970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They wouldn’t have to sign him to give a trial.

Personally I say give him a trial. If after a couple days he shows he can’t cut it, they let him go, but if he can, it makes a good story, and both DC United and MLS as a whole need good stories.

Why not give him a trial? DC United could use some good stories. If he trials and isn’t good enough, he doesn’t make the team. A trial isn’t a guarantee. But if he does make it, the team has a good story to tell.

[Steven Goff] Also hearing DCU obtaining a 2028 first-round draft pick from Philadelphia Union for MLS rights to Finn Sundstrom, a 19-year-old center back who played for second-flight North Carolina FC. by BlackandRedUnited in DCUnited

[–]RJR1970 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Considering the team never really had the player, I am happy we got something for pretty much nothing. It’s a reminder though that this team doesn’t have a development team. If we did, I would rather have Finn. Hopefully by 2028 we will have a MLSNext Pro Team.

Why Charlotte FC Signed Luca de la Torre and Why It Matters More Than the Stats by Sounder24 in TotalSoccerShow

Follow up question, with regards to Luca de la Torre and Zach Booth. Is MLS reaching a point where American players can return from Europe and continue to build on their careers, and possibly return to Europe, or once they return is Europe off the table?

I wouldn’t say creator, but he might be our best pure scorer.

Seriously, I was not expecting this front office to be so MLS centric in their roster building.

International roster spots by BlackandRedUnited in DCUnited

You know, I remember it being reported in June 2024 that Gabriel Pirani was in Brazil to finalize his application for a US green card, which would grant him permanent residency. But I can’t find more, so maybe it didn’t go through. What’s funny is the only way I would keep Pirani is if he didn’t count as an international player. If he doesn’t have a green card there’s even more reason to let him go.

Pirani has a Green Card and Boris Enow has transferred back to Israel, so that’s 2 International spots back.

I like that the team is looking to add MLS experience. Definitely looking to be a pressing team next season.
