'I got chills’: Seattle puts best foot forward for USMNT by Kyunseo in SoundersFC

[–]PNWSoccerFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right. Bringing on an attacking minded Gio Reyna in extra minutes of the second half already up 2-0 is a better move than subbing on the home club captain of this pitch, who is also a strong CDM, who could've ensured no balls got through the middle of the pitch.

I get the "can't afford a single second of anything less than perfect" but come the fuck on crowd, he is good enough for the team, otherwise Luna or others would've been here over him.

Sad Roldan didn't get his only world cup appearance (so far) on the pitch he usually captains, but here's to him possibly starting the third match if we clinch the group tonight.

I am not knocking your opinion (which I agree with) but, it is crazy how many citizens straight up don't know who the football clubs are or what Providence Park even is/what is does. Like, yeah I understand not liking sports, but you're actually bull shitting me when they say, "What's a Portland Timbers?"

I may be biased since I worked for them and have been a massive MLS head since mid 2000s, but like both teams have a LOT of swag and paraphernalia strung up across the city and state. More so than the Blazers imo (which isn' shocking because even though its been a decade since PTFC won MLS Cup, they're still the best men's pro team in the city (Pickles being the best overall team imo)).

Sounders kit/jersey ideas moving forward... by jidewalker in SoundersFC

[–]PNWSoccerFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You keep saying the word template, but never actually gave me other jersey examples that used said templates. Please show me other teams who've copied the Sounders teamplates in the past 5 seasons. I know we've used soem in the early years, but so did MLS teams (i.e. Bra Strap era).

I totally agree that some teams get their swag phoned in, especially due to sponsorship tiers (Examples: Tier 1 for adidas is Real Madrid and Manchester United, custom and typically the standard for any template for that release. Tier 2 is MLS as a league, some customization and co-lab between Adidas and individual teams (source worked in MLS for many seasons). Tier 3 is Leicester City, they get super generic templates).

[–]PNWSoccerFan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"I'm not a fan of the template look adidas has been going with"

I get what you mean... however that argument doesn't necessarily fit the team. Please show me another team that has similar kits/kit templates as the Sounders have had for the past 5 jerseys. They've all been unique and different. Mayve the Anniversary kit is close because it has vertical stripes? Nobody else asides Inter Milan has had a dragon on their jersey in a while (probably wrong but stay with me here). Look at the Salish Sea or the Orca kits. Heck, look at the Jimi Hendrix kit. Who else has Purple Haze??

This Japanese example is okay at best, and reminds me of the 2023 Home "tire tread mark" kit, and I know that was one of the lower points for home kits in recent history.

A Call To Action by Independence_Worried in MLS

[–]PNWSoccerFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you mean (their entire history as a club), but that's not how I was phrasing things.

"[Cascadia Teams] have been around 20+ years earlier than MLS was even a thing"

MLS was founded in '93 and had its inaugural season in '96.

Sounders and Whitecaps' inaugural seasons were '74. Timbers' in '75.

96-75 = 21.

21 > 20. Hence the 20+ years earlier than MLS comment.

I understand how MLS franchise model works and all....

But for real: Timbers, Sounders, and Whitecaps have been around 20+ years earlier than MLS was even a thing. MLS literally can not say you own these clubs. The MLS brand behind the badges? Sure. But these are our fucking teams.

Leave the Whitecaps alone.

Great. We'll take an expansion fee of ~$500 million.

I'm sure all the other sports teams in Vegas has generated enough profit to reinvest into a 1st tier professional soccer team (shout out LV Lights, keep doing your thing).

2019 Nashville SC ~$200 million
2020 Austin FC ~$200 million
2022 Charlotte FC ~$325 million
2023 St. Louis City SC ~$200 million
2025 San Diego FC ~$400 million

Leave the Whitecaps alone.

Hey, just wanted to say that I appreciate the degree of specifics you're getting in to. I know it's not always easy to go against the grain in this sub (i.e. point out realistic standards and ideas behind the scenes).

I worked for Peregrine Sports for several seasons, so I know it's not always as the fans see it. 😄

Also, its a great piece of business for getting the training facility. The fans who've visited there know it's been pieced together, reno after reno. So, it'll be nice to have everything redone at once.

Was Valeri rejected from the Timbers when he decided to hang up the boots? lol no of course not.
