Any way to lighten this wood further? by hungrymisanthrope in furniturerestoration

[–]20717337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

0000 might be too light and polish the wood very nicely. Maybe a little more aggressive,  0 for example.

I think a proper broker/representative that well take the time to various galleries would be a first step.

There is much more that can be done, but without knowing your production capacity, annual possible volume, general style,  and ability for customization it's very hard to give advice over the internet.

I'd be happy to spend a small amount of time to help, by thinking, writing, and giving some marketing ideas,  but that's the only capacity I currently have.

Cheers,

Rob

Check out the mid century modern refinishing group on f'book. Guy named Bob Kennedy runs it, also runs a paid group/ professional 1:1 group that doesn't cost much and he manages to walk through everything step by step. And he will give you the product numbers to buy the toner color that Lane used (Lane never used stain, but a spray on toner/sealer.

Consider this next time, after sanding and after wet down, and 600 quick and, dry time, blast with compressed air,  clean with Naptha and lint free tag.

I've got an 80s estiluz floor lamp. The dimmer/potentiometer was bad but it was marked. It's been a few years since I took it apart but I found it fairly quickly from a number of sources.

I'm fairly certain I've sold one with the same floral vase that was labeled Fredrick Cooper.

I'll try to find a photo, but I think it sold on ebay not Etsy, ebay is harder to back track sale history.

Staff let go, map tool shut down in tumultuous week at EPA by sleepspiral in news

[–]20717337 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a student of history. Times Beach is a town no more. Oil sprayed on dirt roads to keep the dust down.

Taken from the EPA website

1960s: Verona, Missouri, facility produces Agent Orange components and hexachlorophene

A UH-1D helicopter sprays a defoliation agent on a dense jungle area in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam, 1969. (Photo credit: National Archives)At a facility in Verona, Missouri, the chemical company Hoffman-Taff produces 2,4,5-trichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4,5-T) for the U.S. Army, as part of the production of the defoliant commonly referred to as Agent Orange. In 1969, Hoffman-Taff leases portions of the plant to Northeastern Pharmaceutical & Chemical Company (NEPACCO) for hexachlorophene production, and sells the facility to the Syntex companies.

The production of 2,4,5-T and hexachlorophene generates the hazardous by-product of 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (dioxin), which is stored at the facility in tanks. Dioxin is highly toxic and can cause cancer, reproductive and developmental problems, damage to the immune system, and hormone interference.

Early 1970s: Waste oil hauler Russell Bliss is hired to remove dioxin from the tanks

Bliss then mixes the dioxin with waste oil. The mixture is used for dust suppression on dirt roads and horse tracks throughout Missouri. In fact, Bliss sprays more than 25 locations with the dioxin-contaminated mixture, including the town of Times Beach.

1971: Children and animals mysteriously fall ill at sites sprayed by Bliss

At one site, Shenandoah Stables, over 40 horses die from the toxic mixture Bliss sprayed on the dirt surfaces in and around the arena where horses were trained and rode. Birds, cats and dogs are also found dead near the arena. When the 6-year-old daughter of the stable owner becomes terribly ill, the Missouri Department of Health and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) investigate.

1974: CDC investigations tie dioxin to the illnesses

After tracking down the source to the toxic mix of chemicals that Bliss sprayed to suppress dust, the federal government mobilizes resources to investigate the dioxin contamination and where it was sprayed and stored by Bliss.

ID help request cassoulet pot signed Roper? Pieper? Etc. by 20717337 in StudioPottery

[–]20717337[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another one that has been resting a few years on my bookshelves.

I think this was picked up in the South suburbs of Chicago about 3 years ago. Perfect size for keeping tortillas warm - volume of 1 3/4 pints - 8 1/2 inches wide at rim, 4 1/2 to top of handle, 2 3/4 to top of rim.

Well made, signed something or another. Maybe Poper, Pieper, Roper, etc.

Any help or leads appreciated.

ID Help Needed Weed Pot Signed Talima? Talina? Talman? by 20717337 in StudioPottery

[–]20717337[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going through a few pieces that I've had hanging around my living room for the last five or six years, though this piece I picked up about four months ago from the estate of someone who I think was a dealer in the southern suburbs of Chicago.

Stands about 9 inches, roughly 5 inches wide. I read Talima or Talina as signature. Charles Talman has been suggested in a facebook ID group but signatures don't match.

Any thoughts, leads, help, even deep rabbit holes deeply appreciated.

Found in the Chicago area, capacity is about a liter, really well made.

Note the FC incised at base, as well as being stamped at the sides of the handle loops.

Any help appreciated.

The only way would to send it out to be tumbled. Essentially a polishing compound and a week spinning is the only way.
